Work Text:
Quiet birdsong wakes her, the sound of Haysey’s quiet breathing soothing her mind from its confused and newly woken state. Shifting up a sleep heavy hand, Penny rubs at her eye, cleaning away the sleep still clinging to her lashes. Haysey shifts underneath her head, his chest rising steadily as he partially wakes up, taking a big breath in to let it out in a content sigh.
She drops her hand and rests it on his chest again, idly drawing little circles on the fabric of his sleep shirt. The arm around her shoulders curls tighter, tugging her more firmly against his body and Penny smiles happily, snuggling closer as she slides a calf between his own.
They settle back against the bed and listen to the birds singing outside as they both drift in and out of sleep. The edges of an idea curl into Penny’s mind and she frowns in thought, deciding to just be straightforward and ask instead of wondering.
“Henry?”
Penny’s voice is soft in the silence of the room and Haysey tilts his chin down to look at her, curled up all comfortable on his chest, curiousity at the use of his given name and not his usual nickname evident in the curl of his brows.
“Yes, Penelope?”
“Why did you pick my room last night? You could have gone into any of the other spare ones.”
She spots the blush spreading across his cheeks and giggles, biting her lip as she waits for his answer. He shifts underneath her, his other hand coming up to brush her hair off her cheek, fingertips lingering against the warmth of her jaw.
Penny senses the mood shift and she pushes up onto her elbow, splaying her other hand across Henry’s chest. His thumb rubs gently against the swell of her cheek and she smiles down at him, letting go of her lip with a quiet pop.
Haysey’s smile grows bigger as he leans up, brushing their noses together before he kisses her, lips soft and warm against her own. Penny automatically slides her hand lower to rest on his ribs as she pushes closer to Haysey, shifting above him as she curls a knee over his hip for balance.
She catches his muffled moan into her mouth with an equally muffled giggle, both of them pulling away to blush and smile at each other. Penny strokes her thumb under the edges of his shirt, delighting in the way it’s ridden up while they've slept, giving her easy access to his skin. He sighs gently and Penny finds herself leaning in again, Haysey’s lips opening under hers.
Penny finds herself fighting a losing battle against the need to keep kissing Henry, his warmth and gentleness urging her to take more from him. He curls his hand around her knee but otherwise stays perfectly still underneath her, allowing Penny to take the lead. She feels her hand going all tingly from the angle she’s leaning on it and shifts again, settling her weight more firmly against Henry’s chest as she shifts it to wiggle her fingers.
He takes her weight with a quiet hum, the hand on her jaw sliding down to wrap around her waist and tuck her safely against his chest. In between gentle little kisses, he finally answers her earlier question.
“Didn’t want to be alone last night. And I wanted….” he pauses and chews the inside of his cheek, only continuing when Penny gives him a curious look from under her lashes. “I wanted the chance at privacy while we’ve got it. There’s no locked doors on the Maid Honour.”
Penny blinks at him as a furious blush works across her cheeks, the warmth of it clearly felt by him as she buries her face against his chest with a shy little giggle. He feels a lightness in his chest at her reaction, oddly happy that she’s gone all shy at the truth of his words. He drops a kiss into her hair and sneakily nudges her knee higher up his hip to move her even closer, keeping a firm grip on her leg the whole time, the edges of her silk nightgown brushing the back of his knuckles.
He won’t take advantage that way - Penny will be allowed to take her time and choose whether to allow him to touch her more just as much as she’ll be allowed to choose when she wants to sleep with him. Her hand slips higher under his shirt, fingers warm against the skin of his ribs. He matches her movements and carefully slides his hand higher, stopping when he’s got the width of his hand around the lower half of her thigh.
She giggles and pulls her hand out from under his shirt, sliding it below the covers pooled around their waists and curling her fingers around his hand, tugging it slightly higher up her leg.
“I don’t mind. I like your touch,” Penny confesses softly, blush still firmly in place as Henry looks up at her wide eyed. His own blush returns as she pulls her hand away, wiggling it beneath his shirt again. Haysey pulls his hand away swiftly as he thinks of something, patting Penny’s hand to get her to move as he sits up on his elbow.
Penny pulls away with a frown, knee slipping from his hip to between his legs, shifting so much that a strap of her nightgown slips down her arm. Haysey pulls his gaze away with a quick gulp, trying to calm his suddenly racing heart as he tugs his sleep shirt off, throwing it in the direction of the chair that his shirt and trousers are on. They both watch it land on the floor just short of the chair, Penny letting out a giggle that seems equal parts nervous and amused.
Haysey takes a deep breath and lies back down, tugging the bed covers slightly higher while Penny settles back against his chest, lips brushing against his skin gently. He shivers at her kiss, reacting to it by tightening his grip on her thigh again, his other hand sliding down her arm after carefully righting the strap of her nightgown. Penny brushes a kiss to his chest again before tilting her chin up, pouting up at Haysey playfully. He dips down to kiss her, licking across her bottom lip cheekily. Penny moans softly and opens up under his mouth, sliding her hand up to wind it into his hair with a gentle tug. His hand doesn’t stray much higher up her thigh and Penny is quietly grateful that he’s allowing her to take her time and make the first move.
Their kisses gradually slow in intensity and Penny pulls away first, nestling her head under his chin with a happy little hum. His other hand moves from her side to tuck the cover around her shoulder with a little smile. Not even the sound of Apple and Gus moving about and talking in the next room disturbs their little bubble of warmth as they quietly slip back into sleep.
