Work Text:
Mayday Parker wanted to scream.
As long as she had known Felicity Hardy, there had been times where it had felt like the younger girl was bound and determined to drive her absolutely crazy ; whether it be stealing her costume from her locker, wearing a Scarlet Spider costume of her own, or insisting that they should be partners in crime-fighting, it seemed that Felicity had found a way to truly excel when it came to making her want to pull her hair out.
Tonight was no exception to that.
Things had started out fairly simple - a quick patrol after making sure the latest paper she had due was actually finished. Something that had definitely gone over well at the Parker household, though, if what her mother had told her about her dad ‘geeking out’ about how well she’d taken to the required science classes was anything to go off of. So far, she’d absolutely exceeded what anyone had thought she could do in college for two years running now, and all while keeping Spider-Girl going strong. Who had said this was ‘impossible’? Because so far she was knocking this completely out of the park.
Tonight had been a quiet one.
To a point.
A point that was now long since past.
Mayday had everything handled perfectly enough up to that point. Nothing that a few small-time hoods trying to knock over a local liquor store could throw at her would be enough to put a stop to the likes of Spider-Girl. With how quickly she’d arrived on the scene, none of the three aspiring criminals had known what had hit them. The entire thing was over in almost seconds, courtesy of a few well placed webs and a small kick to the chest of one of them. When her Spider-Sense had reared itself up, she’d been ready to move, already knowing how she was going to flank the man and make sure that whatever shot he’d thought he was going to get off was going to never even have a chance to leave the barrel.
Teamups weren’t anything new to her, with her earliest days wearing her webs being punctuated by run-ins with the likes of Darkdevil or A-Next, but the suit her eyes had actually landed upon - once her would-be partner for the evening actually had landed on the ground again - was the very last one she had expected to ever see again. Someone that she had almost prayed she’d never see in a costume ever again.
A new costume at that.
“I swear to God, Felicity…” With how much she was gritting her teeth, Mayday was surprised she’d managed to get even those words out. It wasn’t the first time that she had bailed her out of trouble, especially given the way that Felicity would always seem to show up at the worst possible times, almost like she came with her own supply of broken mirrors. If she had actually patterned herself after her mother, there was no doubt in Mayday’s mind that she would have a lock-down on the ‘black cat’ motif, just because of the amount of trouble she always seemed to bring with her.
“I know, right?! We totally had them! I knew taking those self-defense classes with my mom would work out perfectly for this!” Oblivious to the annoyance in the other costumed hero’s voice, by intent or not, Felicity joyously bounced on her feet, expression no doubt completely ecstatic beneath the red mask she wore. The blue and red costume was a step up from the one she’d copied from Mayday’s late uncle, and there was an element of pure pride that she felt from having one that was entirely her own.
She wasn’t out of this game yet! And besides, she was older now! She was totally ready for this, especially with all the training she’d done - with and without her mother’s approval. But more often than not, it seemed like Mother Hardy had started to see something to be supported in the way her daughter was dedicated to this.
“ Felicity… ” Again, Mayday spat out. She didn’t want to be dealing with this. Again. For years now, she had been convinced that this was over. This… partner thing. It had driven her up the wall when she’d been new to the Spider game, and it earned her more than enough grief with her parents and Felicia Hardy. The last thing she wanted now was to dredge up all of that over again. No matter how much older the both of them were now.
“Listen, you totally don’t have to thank me for helping out! I know you could have taken them all on your own, but you gotta admit that I came along at the best time!” The bubbly tone of voice that Felicity was using was enough to make Mayday’s intense frustration continue to build. She wasn’t close to seeing red just yet, but she would never put it past Felicity to push her to that point. The blonde had done it before, and there was no doubt that skill was still inside her now.
From what Mayday’s father had told her about Felicity’s mother, the apple hadn’t fallen far from the tree in that regard.
“I really think I proved myself tonight! I’m not some little kid anymore who needs you to tell her to run back home and quit playing hero. I’m ready to do this for real!” Felicity continued, turning around on her heel to look at her counterpart through slightly familiar eye-pieces. “We can be partners now! For real!”
For a moment, Mayday could have sworn that time seemed to stand still. She could hear Felicity continuing to speak, but the words faded out, leaving only an indistinguishable sound in her ears that reminded her of an old Peanuts cartoon. Much of what Felicity was saying she’d heard before: the insistence on how they should be partners, of how this was the best possible thing in the world, and that she only needed to give it a chance to see that Felicity had been right all along. It was the same song and dance that she’d heard several times before the night where she’d been nearly killed by a Scrier.
This conversation wasn’t supposed to be happening again. And yet somehow, it was .
When her feet had fallen back into step, things sped back up, to the point she felt like a spectator in her own body. With the sound of police sirens roaring closer and closer, she didn’t want to have this conversation out in the open, and especially not where anyone and everyone could hear it. With both of her hands she spun Felicity around on her heels before wrapping an arm around her waist. As much talking as her counterpart had been doing, it actually felt good to hear her taken off-guard enough to stop.
By the time she’d heard as much as a peep out of Felicity, Mayday had already gotten a running start, a quick firing of her webshooters, and a great leap taking them into the night sky above New York. It wasn’t the first time she’d swung above the streets with someone held under her arm, but it was usually with less enthusiastic passengers in tow. Much like she’d heard out of her once before, Mayday wasn’t surprised by the high-pitched ‘weeeee!’ which emerged from Felicity as they made their leave from the scene. The sound, however, only made the annoyance inside her continue to climb to newer heights with each passing moment.
Landing on an otherwise deserted rooftop, it was only with the utmost restraint that May didn’t outright drop the girl onto the solid ground beneath them. Setting her companion back onto her feet, she bit back an actual growl as she heard Felicity start right back up with that bubbly tone that was seemingly poking at her more and more.
“Hehehe, that was so much fun! I don’t really have the hang of these webshooters yet, but my mom said they’re kind of tricky to use--”
“Shut up! Shut up! ShutupshutupSHUTUP!” The words sprang out of her faster than Mayday could realize. Closing what little distance remained between them, she clamped her hand down over Felicity’s mouth. Even hidden away beneath that mask, Mayday had no doubt that Felicity’s eyes had grown wide.
“You are going to go back home and forget about this whole thing. Got it?” she ordered, knowing that it wasn’t the first time that she had told Felicity exactly that. Whether it would have any different outcome compared to all the other times prior was something she didn’t hold any illusions about, but she still had to get it out regardless. With her free hand, she reached up and snatched the mask off of Felicity’s head, revealing a face she was all too familiar with.
“I can help ! And I’m not gonna stop just because you’re too stubborn to let me!” Felicity fired back, sass punctuating every one of her words as she grabbed her mask back from Mayday. “Either you can accept that, or I’m gonna keep showing up to bail your ass out of trouble!” Now that she could see the other girl’s face, Mayday could see all of that stubbornness she’d once dreaded having to deal with back when they’d been in high school. ‘No’ hadn’t been an answer that Felicity had taken at any point, and it seemed that determination had only strengthened even further in the time since. But to face that stubbornness now when it was backed with even more sass?
Mayday knew exactly what Felicity Hardy was.
She was a damn brat.
“Bail my ass out of trouble?!” Incensed, Mayday dug her fingers into the shoulder of Felicity’s costume, completely capturing her attention.
“Pretty sure that’s what I did back th--”
“How many times have I bailed you out of trouble?!” Mayday quickly cut her off. Reaching up with her spare hand, she ripped her own mask off, exposing every bit of annoyance to the other Spider.
“That doesn’t--”
“No, it does count!” Tugging on the bright spandex in her grip, Mayday shook her head fiercely, closing the distance until she was right on top of the other woman practically. “You almost died, Felicity! Did you forget about that?!”
“I was also fourteen !” Despite the ferocity in her voice, there was something about the way she’d been grabbed and interrupted that had taken Felicity off-guard. Being told to shut up or that she wasn’t going to be considered as a partner wasn’t anything new, but the gleam in the eyes which stared back at her now were different.
“You know what? You’re right.” Compared to the response she’d heard prior, this one seemed completely at odds with the tone the conversation had taken. Hearing those words from Mayday had actually taken Felicity off guard. The grip the other girl had on her costume hadn’t yet let up, making the response that much more jarring. Staring back into Mayday’s eyes, she didn’t try to stop one of her brows from arching in surprise.
Was this some kind of new tactic being tried on her?
“I am?” Nothing could stop the confusion she felt from slipping into her voice.
“You are,” Mayday nodded. “You’re definitely not fourteen anymore. You’re all grown up.” The frustration was there, on the very edge of her voice, but everywhere else it was impossible not to notice a kind of calm that was working overtime to fill Felicity with a sense of unease. She had seen the brunette in action many times; enough that she could tell that something was about to happen. And she didn’t need Spider-Sense to be able to tell that much.
“Nice of you to finally notice,” Felicity retorted, trying to regain some of the snark that had punctuated her voice before. Even with the wave of discomfort that had washed over her, her attitude was shining through clearly as she tried staring Mayday down. However, it all seemed to fall short in the wake of having what seemed like a now calm Mayday appearing to actually agree with her. How was it that she had seen her genuinely angry before, and that somehow this was much more terrifying?
“Oh, I’ve noticed . A lot of things actually. Wanna know which one is on my mind the most right now?” The calm cadence continued, making Felicity squirm even more in Mayday’s grasp.
“What’s that?” Many times in her life, Felicity had asked questions that she now knew, with the gift of hindsight, she needn’t have asked. No sooner had the question left her lips did she wish she had stayed silent. In an instant Mayday’s gaze hardened, her grip on Felicity’s costume remaining steadfast as she leaned in closer. Close enough, in fact, that there would be no mistaking the meaning of her words once they’d been spoken.
“You’re a complete brat .”
In the right hands, there was no limit to the amount of pure power that words could only, as if they were truly the greatest weapon ever known. One look at Felicity was all anyone would have ever needed to see the truth in that statement. As each word crashed into her like a tidal wave, it felt as though she’d actually been slapped with them.
“You have always been a brat , ever since the day I met you,” Mayday continued, keeping her gaze locked right on Felicity’s face. “You have no concept of what the word ‘no’ actually means.”
“May--”
“Uh-uh, I’m talking right now.” Mayday silenced the younger girl by pressing a finger to her lips. Behind it, the self-named Scarlet Spider fell completely silent, the lack of sound enough to satisfy Mayday completely.
“When I tell you ‘no’, I’m trying to protect you. Got it? You doing what you did tonight isn’t listening to me.” Satisfied that Felicity wasn’t going to be nearly as lippy now, she lowered her finger as she continued to talk. “Why can’t you just listen for once?”
For a moment, pure silence hung in the air between the costumed women. Their gazes locked onto one another, the tension in air would have withstood the attempts of even the sharpest blade. Despite the stunned awe that she had been filled with, Felicity maintained a certain fire in her eyes that Mayday only seemed to find herself further challenged by. Just as it had before, time seemed to slow down, not just for one of them, but for them both. And then, just as quickly, time raced even faster.
What sparked it was a certain feeling.
The feeling of lips pressed together, crashing into each other like a wave upon the shore. A feeling that Mayday could recognize as Felicity’s lips against her own.
In much the same way as the blonde had done before, Mayday’s eyes suddenly grew as wide as saucers. As many reactions as there could have been to the conversation and the way it had turned, what she was experiencing now was the last possible one she would have predicted. On some level, none of this could truly be real. There was no way that Felicity Hardy was actually kissing her.
Her hands moved to grasp Felicity’s arms, as if to quickly push her away, but the longer she stood there, Mayday could feel something else building within her. Rather than pushing Felicity away, she actually leaned into the soft, inviting warmth that the other girl’s lips were offering. As her eyes closed, her hands relaxed their grip as she actually melted into the kiss.
It was as if every angry thought in her head, every annoyance that had previously rushed to the surface to demand its time in the spotlight, had gone completely silent and left her able to focus on just one thing: Felicity was actually kissing her.
All her life, she’d never truly thought about something like this - kissing another woman - other than the customary imagined scenarios that she was sure everyone had thought of at one time or another. Whether or not Felicity had been interested in her hadn’t ever come up, apart from a few backhanded comments from old classmates she’d been sure to shut down whenever she’d been in earshot of them. But from the way that the girl clearly seemed to be enjoying this, Mayday couldn’t come up with anything as to why this wouldn’t be the case. If this was a ruse, there was too much energy being put into it…
And then, all at once, it was over . The warmth those lips had offered her vanished all too quickly for her liking, even if it felt like she was once again like a spectator watching the entire scene rather than being in the driver's seat. Eyes opening, she found herself looking at a very different sight than what she’d seen earlier. Instead of Felicity standing there in front of her, no doubt ready with some kind of sassy quip or something suitably brat-like, there was only the sight of a red and blue costume rushing towards the roof’s edge.
In the time it took Mayday to blink once, then twice, all of the anger she’d felt came roaring back.
“ FELICITY! ” she called out, her own feet breaking out into a run as she followed. A part of her wondered if her father had ever had to deal with something like this out of a Hardy, and despite how close-lipped he could be about things from the past, Mayday had a hunch there were plenty of stories to tell in that regard.
As the edge of the roof came closer and closer within Felicity’s reach, Mayday reacted on instinct, lifting her arm and quickly firing off a line of webbing. In the blink of an eye, that webbing clung to Felicity’s back and stopped her dead in her tracks as Mayday pulled hard.
If Felicity had been planning on a swift escape that would at least delay this conversation to another day, those plans were quashed instantly by the feeling of the web pulling her back. Her breath hitched in her throat, and then just as quickly her lips gave birth to a loud ‘yip!’ that could be heard clear across the rooftop. With the way the web had been pulled taut, it sent her spinning backwards, her balance just barely managing to keep her upright.
All until she was back in Mayday’s grasp, her eyes wide in knowing her escape plan had been foiled.
“What’s wrong with--”
She didn’t even let Mayday finish the sentence before she immediately tried to break out of her hold. Considering the anger she had heard in Mayday’s voice before, there was no way that conversation could even remotely end well - especially after the tactic she’d used to distract Mayday just long enough to try and make an escape. Instantly, Felicity struggled against Mayday’s hold on her, trying to wriggle her way out of her grip. There would be no catching her off-guard with another kiss.
Exactly how many times had her mother used that one…
Hooking her leg behind Mayday’s, Felicity threw all of her weight forward, hoping that that pesky Spider-Sense of hers wouldn’t go off as a result. One of these days, she was going to pick her mother’s brain for exactly how that even worked. Surely the great Black Cat would have something in the way of inside knowledge on it. An answer quickly presented itself as the two came crashing down onto the rooftop in a tangled mess of costumes. Even despite being taken by surprise, Mayday didn’t relinquish her hold on Felicity, instead opting to hold on even tighter.
“Stop squirming , you brat! ” Managing to get a hold on the thrashing blonde, Mayday was seeing red. And not just the color of Felicity’s costume. With Felicity under her arm, her feet kicking to try and get a grip to push out of the lock she found herself in, all she could see of the other woman was from the waist down. Hand shooting out to make sure a kick didn’t actually connect with her, not entirely convinced it would have hurt too much in any regard, Mayday growled as she quickly managed to lock her own leg around Felicity’s.
“Let me go! I didn’t do anything!” Felicity barked, pushing against Mayday’s back to try and get enough leverage to wiggle her way out.
“ You didn’t do anything?! ” She heard the words, but it was what punctuated them that captured Felicity’s attention. Still squirming against the iron-hold that Mayday had on her, she actually yipped as she felt something just as solid connect with her ass.
“ Ow! Mayday, what the hell?! ”
“You call endangering yourself, and then acting like I’m the one who needed saving, nothing ?” Again, Mayday followed up her words with another spank, and then another . As much red as she was seeing, there was almost nothing that could have stopped her from trying to make sure her points actually sunk in. “And then you kissed me, and decided to run off? ”
“I was trying to get you to - OW! - stop yelling at me!” Squirming resuming with a renewed energy, Felicity could feel her face starting to warm more and more with each spank she felt against her thinly-costumed rear. As much pride as she had taken in her suit, especially with its unique design, she was more than regretting just how little there actually was in terms of thickness to the material itself - especially against someone who actually had superpowers.
“So your first thought was to just kiss me and then run away? ” Shaking her head, Mayday couldn’t hide just how much that part had been the worst offender out of everything she’d listed. As focused as she was on delivering a punishment that seemed to ‘fit the crime’, as her mother had used in situations unlike this one, she ignored just how warm her face was just from thinking about what happened mere minutes prior.
“Look, I’m sorry! Cut it - - OW! ” Her face now flushed bright red, contrasting the golden locks that had been obscuring her indignant expression, Felicity’s kicks intensified as she felt the stinging sensation in her rear continue to build. The embarrassment she was feeling was enough to counteract the way her thoughts had drifted to how different this was felt in reality, especially compared to how she had imagined it--
“What? No bratty response for me? Maybe this is exactly what you needed.” Delivering a few more spanks to Felicity’s smarting bottom, Mayday had to admit it was actually satisfying to hear the way that she wasn’t firing back any of the sass she’d had plenty of prior to now. The more her blows went on, the more it actually seemed like she was cooperating with her for once.
The pleased smirk on her face melted, however, as she heard a single sound emerge from Felicity. Against the whines and growls that she’d already combated, Mayday could hear something else , and even as frustrated as she had been, there was no mistaking what that new sound was.
It had been a moan.
“Felicity… are you actually enjoying this?” Pausing, her hand still firmly against the other woman’s ass, Mayday finally recognized the heat currently burning in her own face as more of it rushed to flood her cheeks. In her lap, Felicity had already frozen, realizing what she had let slip out of her. If the blonde’s face had been bright pink before, it was absolutely crimson now.
“I… NO! ” Shaking her head furiously, her hands shot to her face, covering it like doing so would make the entire world forget she existed. Compared to the bubbling confidence that she had exhibited earlier, it was night and day. Her hand still firmly against Felicity’s ass, Mayday swore that it was getting hotter inside her spandex. And not just because of the way she had been kissed.
Compared to some that she had received in her lifetime, it certainly hadn’t been a bad one. And unlike some, a part of her had felt like it wasn’t exactly wrong either. Even if she had been taken by surprise by it, there wasn’t any disgust or anything similar that had filled her in response.
Had… had she actually enjoyed the kiss, as brief as it had been?
“Are you sure?” The teasing words left her lips quickly, aiding in how hot her face was as Felicity remained completely still over her leg. As those words circled the other girl’s brain, however, the urge to run and hide was definitely returning in force, evident in the way Felicity’s struggles started to begin anew.
“No, I’m not enjoying being spanked by you!” she fired back, hands slapping down loudly against the rooftop. “ God! ”
Still refusing to relinquish the lock she had on Felicity’s legs, Mayday arched her brow, her mouth actually feeling dry as she tried to think of something, anything , to say to counter what was about as bad a lie as she had ever heard.
“Do you wanna talk about that kiss back there, or…?” Mayday started, her words trailing off.
“Look, I’m sorry, okay?! I did it because I thought…” Felicity’s own sentence faltered just the same. As if she couldn’t quite bring herself to actually say the remaining few words in the sentence. Listening, Mayday waited for the rest, genuine curiosity more than perked within her. Considering the silence, it certainly seemed like the other woman was struggling just even thinking about it. What was so hard that even thinking about it was making Felicity Hardy, of all people, actually at a loss for words-
Oh God…
“Do you… do you have a crush on me?”
The question was blunt, but with all that had happened in the last few minutes, the last thing Mayday was going to worry about was mincing her words. Especially with how much she knew Felicity. Still refusing the look at her, like she couldn’t bear to do so, Felicity couldn’t avoid just how hot her face felt.
As many times as she had imagined having something of a conversation similar to this one, it hadn’t ever once played out like this. Especially considering the stinging ass she had now, courtesy of her crush. Although, she had imagined that scenario before…
“I… I…” Felicity stammered, her brain practically short-circuiting at the very idea of admitting anything of the sort. As she fought to make the words leave her tongue, Felicity felt the iron-like hold on her legs vanish, replaced with a pair of hands helping to move her into a sitting position. As lost in her own thoughts as she was, she didn’t dare to look up to meet Mayday’s gaze. Between the kiss and the resulting spanking, there was no way that she didn’t look like a blonde-haired tomato. She wanted to be anywhere but where she was presently.
But as those same hands that had helped her up moved to cup her cheeks, she found herself looking into a pair of brilliant blue eyes, and suddenly she couldn’t think about being anywhere else.
God, Mayday was never going to let her live this down, or even talk to her after this. She was sure of it. And the minute her mother heard about any of this, she was never going to hear the end of it from her either.
Quicker than she could process, however, there was a pair of lips pressing against her own. Eyes going wide, she looked down to see a familiar head of short, tomboy-like hair blocking her vision. With the initial shock still working its way through her system, Felicity gave in to the growing feeling inside her as the kiss continued. Against all the shock, embarrassment, and frustration inside her, there was, indeed, something else guiding her all the way.
Attraction. Like a moth to a flame.
Eyes closed, her ears were filled with the sounds of their lips against one another. Lost in the sensation of Mayday’s lips, Felicity draped her hands over the shoulders of a familiar webbed costume. In response, she felt Mayday’s own palms that had initially been at her cheeks move down lower to wrap around her. Even with a smarting bottom, having those arms holding her tight made Felicity feel like she had the most comfortable seat imaginable. For that matter, as far as she was concerned, the rest of the world didn’t even exist at that point. All that mattered was that she was in Mayday’s arms, and that she had never felt safer in all her life.
When she finally pulled back, desperately needing to catch her breath, Mayday kept her own eyes closed. Her mind was already racing with a thousand differing thoughts - a contrast to how focused she had been earlier. Mayday didn’t know where the kiss had come from, but as noisy as her mind was, she swore she could hear an echo of her mother’s words about ‘listening to her gut’. Where the urge to kiss Felicity back had come from, she didn’t know, but the feeling deep within her now didn’t lend itself to it being a bad idea at all.
“If I open my eyes and see you running away again, you’re going right back over my lap. Got it?” Her words were wrapped in a warm, soft tone, in spite of the playfully serious threat they backed. With every word filling her ears, Felicity giggled, her face still plenty red.
“Don’t threaten me with a good time.” Despite the bashful look on her face, she showed no signs of being opposed to the idea, even in spite of her earlier protests. In response, Mayday opened her eyes, staring amusingly back at her.
“So you were enjoying that,” she answered with an arched brow. As red as she was, she was sure there was no possible way that Felicity’s face could grow any redder. But that wasn’t to say she wasn’t willing to test that theory.
“Shut up! ” Ducking her head down, Felicity buried her warm face in her hands. If a cuter sight existed, Mayday wasn’t sure she could name it. It was something that took her off-guard, more than she could admit. Although, she had to say that she was doing a good job at hiding it so far.
Leaning in, she pressed her forehead against Felicity’s.
“We have a lot to talk about. You know that, right?” she murmured after a few peaceful moments of silence. Settled and content in her lap, Felicity closed her eyes, all too aware of how fast her heart was still beating inside her chest.
“I know… but can we just sit like this a little longer?” Before the last word had even left her lips, she had a hunch that Mayday more than be in agreement. Rather than answer with words, however, it seemed her crush had a much better idea in mind. As she felt their lips meet again, a feeling that she could get quite used to, Felicity already knew one thing for certain.
It sounded like one of the best ideas she’d ever heard.
