Work Text:
Nabiki was counting her money, and preparing various props for simple disguises for one of her many schemes when she glanced at the clock on her wall.
‘Shoot, that late already? I better get going,’ she thought as she ran of to place many lucrative bets on the secret identities of every single sailor senshi as well as their relationship status, leaving everything behind in a pile.
----
Ranma knocked on Nabiki’s door. “Nabs? Are you there? I have this week’s payment.”
No answer.
Ranma considered trying again later, but after the last time he was late he’d vowed on his very definitely real honour as a very definite man that he would never be late again, so carefully he opened the door to place the envelope on the desk, only to be met with a familiar face.
“Nunya? Is that you?” Ranma asked the pile of coins with a slightly styled brown wig atop them and some groucho glasses laid in front. Ranma hadn’t seen Nunya in weeks, but he never forgot a face with glasses that thick and a moustache that bushy. Especially if it had a nose that size.
“Well, it’s great to see ya again! Say, do you think you can teach me that teleportation trick? I figures out you’re the one who taught Nabiki, but don’t worry, I’ll never tell anyone else. I’m great with secrets! Why, no one at school has figured out my secret identity,” Ranma smirked. “And I’m not telling you either! That’s how great I am at keeping secrets.”
Ranma nodded to himself. The pile of coins endowed with paraphernalia failed to respond.
“The quiet type, huh?” Ranma slumped down to the floor. “Don’t see a lot of those around here, but I guess it makes sense that Nabs would be into that. Well, honestly I’m surprised she likes anything but money, but for some reason you seem the wealthy type too. Something about you just makes me think ‘piles of yen’, you know?”
It was quiet for a moment.
“I mean, not that I think she’d date anyone just because they’re rich, honestly? If that was all she’s after, she wouldn’t have ever let you into her room while she wasn’t here. Or even in the neighbourhood. She’s smart like that.”
…
“Hey, could you do me a solid? If she asks, say you opened the door and took the envelope from me? I don’t want her to find out I went in here without her permission, ya know? Obviously I didn’t do anything, but still.”
…
“Thanks, man. And hey, don’t worry. I’ll never tell anyone about the time you dressed up in her clothes. I know all about the extremely normal and masculine urge to be a woman. Hope to see you again soon,” he said, waving at his new friend as he closed Nabiki’s room behind him. That was probably the best first interaction Ranma had had with anyone in his whole life! He hoped that Nunya and Nabs worked out longterm, they seemed good for each other.
----
Nabiki reviewed the footage of her room again. She wasn’t completely sure what happened that afternoon, but she knew two things.
First, Ranko was quite possibly a bigger idiot than her little brother.
Second, she should install a microphone in her desk. She never wanted to miss out on whatever had been said ever again.
