Isha didn’t know what was going on. In one moment she was laying in her mother’s lap slowly drifting into the comforting feeling of sleep, but in the other she found herself in a dark, green alley she didn’t recognize. Slowly she sat up and looked around.
Isha was sure she was still in the underground city, -it was pretty obvious- but everything seemed way different. The streets smelled bad, and the amount of angry, suspicious looking people was concerning her too. Isha knew she had to find her parents quickly but the fact that she is mute didn’t make her job easier.
This strange place was dangerous and it was even worse if you’re a little girl who doesn’t know anything about the streets she is on. Isha will soon learn that she shouldn’t have stepped into the wrong alleyway, or in her case appeared.
Footsteps echoed behind Isha and she quickly turned around to find three men walking towards her. They all had big muscles and they had a look on their face that scared the small child.
“Didn’t you know that little girl, to not step into another's street without his permission?” he spoke with a calm voice while towering over Isha. The child’s breath hitched and she just stared up at him with fear. The man reached his hand for her and the girl’s fight or flight instincts kicked in and started running away from her attackers.
“Get her!”
The three men sprinted towards Isha and she swore she could feel their big feet hitting the ground.
The little girl maneuvered around the streets trying to lose her followers but they seemed too persistent for her to lose them. She could feel her energy slowly leaving her with every step and she knew that they were getting closer to her with every passing second. Still she kept sprinting hoping that they would give up on the chase. Maybe if she had a little luck on her side.
But Isha wasn’t famous for her luck and her running quickly came to an end when she found herself at the edge of a broken metal piece which was previously used as a bridge between two sides.
Isha heard the men’s angry shouting behind her coming closer. Looking ahead of her she knew she had to jump. With a big breath she readied herself and then she ran towards the edge, when she was close enough she jumped as high as she could, which apparently wasn’t enough.
She tried to grab the other end but it was too far away and so she fell. Isha closed her eyes ready for the burning pain, but it never came. Instead of the rough pavement her small body landed on something softer like another human.
When Isha opened her eyes she could see that indeed she was right.
“There she is!” a man yelled from behind and Isha sat up, so did the figure behind her.
The three eyes shot wide open with terror and fear and in the next moment Isha heard a gun fire. The men’s lifeless body fell to the ground.
Isha reached her shaking hand to block her gaze from the bloody view. She slowly, unsure of herself, turned around only to be met by a familiar face.
The young woman had blue hair which was in two long ponytails behind her. She had terrifying pink eyes that bore lifelessly into her soul. She had a lot of visible scars but Isha tried not to stare at them too much.
‘Mama!’
Isha wanted to yell but she wasn’t sure if the blue haired girl was the person she was looking for. Yeah she looked identical to her mother but instead of loving, soft blue eyes her eyes were filled with something dangerous and that scared her.
She was sure that it was her mom but something definitely changed in her. Isha didn’t care at that moment the only thing that mattered was that she could have her mama back.
Isha looked at the weapon that killed the men for the first time and her eyes narrowed. She imagined the blue haired girl firring that gun but this time it hit her head and not her attackers. The thought only terrified her.
“Do you feel it?” She asked pointing her gun at Isha who flinched back “The buzzing behind your eyes” the woman explained, looked straight at the girl with no emotion and no sign of recognition which hurt her a little bit “because you know that in a moment it could all…” she placed the gun to her own head and for a moment Isha thought she would shoot herself “Bumm”
Silence fell over the two and for the first time Isha looked around, her gaze spotting a “wanted” poster with the young woman’s face. The name beneath it wasn’t what she was expecting. It wasn’t ,,Powder” like her mother’s name, it was something more cruel: ,,Jinx”
“Yup that’s me.” she stood up turning her back towards Isha “If you ever want to curse a sibling, a family or a society-” Jinx smiled looking down at her “my card!”
Then the woman walked away gracefully and Isha just blinked at her with awe. The little girl stood up and quietly followed her savior.
Isha didn’t understand what was going on, she knew that this definitely wasn’t her universe. Or maybe she was in the past? She didn’t know. But in that moment the only thing that mattered was that she finally found her mother.
She hoped that she could be happy with her in this universe too.
