Work Text:
It was a cold night. Weronika, Elsie, Sophia, and Neo were practicing for their next concert. Elsie was going over the choreography for their new song, however Weronika kept messing up one of her moves and fell on the ground.
“No! No! Weronika, that's not how you do it!” yelled Elsie, she rubbed her eyes in frustration.
Weronika, slowly getting frustrated with Elsie,as Sophia was trying to help Weronika up.
“I’m doing it like how you showed me!” Weronika yelled back, as she pushed Sophia aside.
“A-ah! Can you two calm down i-it was just a simple mistake Weronika made, Elsie!!” cried Sophia, getting in between them.
“Maybe if you just listened to me! You wouldn’t have fallen on your ass!” Yelled Elsie, gritting her teeth.
“That’s enough, you two!’ yelled Neo.
Sophia broke the two off, holding onto Elsie, trying not to let her jump towards Weronika.
“I’m going outside! I don’t need to hear you yapping tonight!’ said Weronika, as she grabbed her jacket.
“Fine! You do that you fucking idiot!” yelled out Elsie.
Weronika pulled up the middle finger towards Elsie as she stormed out of the room. Slamming the door in the process.
“Weronika!” Neo called out, sighing to herself as she scratched her head in frustration.
“D-do you want me to get her Neo-sama?” asked Sophia, still holding onto Elsie.
“No it’s fine, let her be alone.” said Neo, turning her head to Sophia and Elsie.
Elsie was trying to hold her tears in, but she took some deep breaths and got out of Sophia’s grasp.
“Stupid Weronika…” grumbled Elsie, taking a drink of her water.
Weronika stepped out of the building. Kicking the ground in frustration.
“Stupid Elsie! Always getting on my ass about everything!’ Weronika yelled out.
Weronika sat down on the ground as she groaned, she looked up at the stars, slowly taking some deep breaths.
“I could use a smoke break.” Weronika thought to herself.
As Weronika dug into her pockets she pulled out a packet of cigarettes and placed one in her mouth. She checked her other pocket, she stopped for a second, and patted her pockets again.
“Son of a bitch, I forgot my damn lighter!” said Weronika.
She must’ve left it in the room, but there was no way she would go back to see that white haired idiot just to yell at her.
“Fuck it, I’ll just deal with it.” said Weronika as she stood up and sat on a nearby bench.
Suddenly, Weronika felt a tap on her shoulder, thinking it was Elsie, Weronika looked up, but it wasn’t Elsie.
“Hey, how’s it going?” asked Date, smiling at Weronika.
“Date? What are you doing out late?” asked Weronika, surprised at the moment.
“Went to pick up some food,” said Date, sitting next to Weronika.
“Oh I see.” said Weronika.
“Thirsty?” asked Date, offering a water bottle to her.
“Yeah, thanks.” said Weronika, taking the bottle and smiling toward Date.
Weronika put her cigarette back in her pocket, she took off the cap of the bottle and chugged her water.
The two sat there, awkwardly, not knowing what to do. They’ve met each other before, but they rarely spoke to each other. Weronika tossed her empty bottle in the trash can that was next to the bench.
“The stars are nice today.” said Date, looking up and admiring the night sky.
“Yeah they are,” said Weronika.
“What the hell do I even say to her? This is the first time we’ve interacted!” Weronika thought to herself.
“I rarely come out during the night since I have to practice.” said Weronika, stretching both of her hands and letting them rest on the bench.
“Oh, what are you doing out here that made you come outside?” asked Date, setting her eyes off from the sky.
“Oh. Well, um, I’m just giving myself a break!” said Weronika.
“You can’t fool me Wero…you were about to smoke were you?” said Date, smirking at her.
“Well, I can’t hide that,” Weronika said, laughing at the comment.
“Is it okay if I can smoke with you?” asked Date.
Weronika jolted up from the sudden question, she didn’t suspect of all people, Date to smoke, then again she did catch her sniffing sugar and drinking cough syrup. She wouldn’t be surprised if she saw Date smoking either.
“Well I could offer, but the problem is I forgot my lighter in the room.” said Weronika.
“Oh, I have a lighter with me, you can use it!” said Date, taking out a lighter out of her pocket.
“Oh really? Thanks Date! You’re a lifesaver!” said Weronika.
Date smiled and nodded. Weronika took the lighter out of Date’s hand, she pulled out her packet of cigarettes and pulled two cigars out of it. She offered Date one and tried to light up the lighter, after a couple of flicks, she lit her’s and Date’s cigars. Weronika took a deep breath and let out a huge puff of smoke.
“Ah, this feels better…” said Weronika, sinking into the bench and giving back the lighter to date .
“Yeah, this is nice.” said Date, letting out a puff of smoke out of her mouth putting the lighter back in her pocket.
“Don’t tell the girls that I smoke, they will get on my ass about it…” said Weronika, taking out her cigar and pointing it at Date.
“I promise I won’t, don’t worry.” said Date.
Weronika put back the cigar in her mouth as she let out another breath of smoke.
“So, what have you been up to lately?” asked Weronika.
“Nothing much really, just been out shopping, got a new ring today actually!” said Date, showing off her new silver ring.
“It looks nice….and expensive too.” chuckled Weronika.
Silence fills the area. Both of the girls looked up at the stars.
“So, who did you get in a fight with?” asked Date, taking her eyes off the sky and letting out a puff of smoke.
“Oh? It’s nothing.” said Weronika, throwing out the cigarette butt to the ground and pulling out another one.
“You sure? You seem really flustered from a distance.” said Date, inhaling her cigarette.
Weronika jumped a bit and blushed from embarrassment. Trying to light her cigar, but accidentally burned her finger a bit. Date let out a puff of smoke as she silently giggled at Weronika.
“Ow! Shit that stings!” yelled out Weronika, dropping the lighter in the process and trying to relieve the pain from her finger, she cleared her throat.
“It’s not a big deal to be honest…” said Weronika, letting out a puff of smoke.
“Come on, you can tell me, I helped you and now it’s my turn to help you.” said Date, positioning herself to a criss cross position on the bench.
“Alright, lately Elsie and I have been getting into more fights. We’ve been arguing alot. I’m surprised we haven’t had a fist fight yet! But just today I really lost it… I messed up on my part when we were practicing and Elsie snapped towards me. And it’s always me! Not Neo or Sophia! Me! I nearly jumped on her but Sophia managed to stop before it went bad… but that’s the gist of it.” said Weronika, taking a huge breath from her cigar and letting out a puff of smoke.
“Hmm, I see.” said Date, looking up at the sky as she let out a cloud of smoke.
“It’s just, I don’t understand why she gets on my ass about everything you know?” said Weronika, scratching her hair in frustration.
“Well, the way I hear it, she just really cares about you.” said Date, smiling at Weronika.
“What?! Hell no! That girl doesn’t care about me one bit!” yelled out Weronika, standing up and stepping on her cigar.
“Come on Weronika, there has to be one time she cared for you.” said Date, standing up behind Weronika.
Weronika groaned and rubbed her eyes.
“Well, she has stopped me from doing reckless shit, and helped me bring a dog in our condo when Neo told us to put it back. She also covered for me when Sophia checked in on me for mornings. Elsie would also check in on me if I was feeling alright when my days are down.” chuckled Weronika, pulling out another cigar from her pack.
Weronika stopped her movement. Realizing that Elsie has basically helped her in every way. She always helped Weronika when she didn’t understand her homework, and helped her stay calm in tough situations. Elsie would get on her ass about anything, but deep down Weronika knew Elsie cared for her in every way possible.
“Oh man, now I feel dumb..” said Weronika, chuckling to herself.
“See, I told you Elsie cared.” said Date, picking up her lighter off the ground.
“I should apologize to her when I get back up then.” said Weronika.
Weronika looked over towards Date and smiled.
“Thanks again, Date.” said Weronika.
“No problem.” said Date, smiling back.
“We should talk more again, do you want to exchange contacts?” asked Weronika, pulling out her phone.
“I would love that.” said Date, pulling out her phone
As the two exchange contacts, Weronika and Date put their phones away. The sound of light pole twinkling, Weronika never realized how cute Date was. She was very calm and seemed to be relaxed in any situation.
“Weronika? You alright?” asked Date.
Weronika snapped out of her daze.
“Oh yeah! S-sorry, I just got lost in thought!” said Weronika, her face getting red.
Date reached out for Weronika’s hand and held them.
“Do you remember how we met?” asked Date.
“Y-yeah.” said Weronika, her face getting warm from Date’s warm hands.
“Can we do it again, at a karaoke place, just the two of us?” asked Date, staring at Weronika’s eyes.
Weronika’s heart was pounding, she couldn’t say anything from staring at Date’s eyes.
“Y-yeah! I’m down!” said Weronika, getting embarrassed as she gently squeezed Date’s hands.
“Great!” said Date, her smile shining with excitement.
“Fuck…she’s really cute…” Weronika thought to herself.
“One more thing…” whispered Date.
Weronika felt Date’s cold hand on her cheek, Date slowly moved Weronika’s head, facing each other, their cigars slightly touching. Date flicked her lighter and lit hers and Weronika’s cigarette together.
“It’s a Date then.” Date giggled as she let go of Weronika’s cheek.
Weronika’s face blushed pure red, no words left her mouth, not knowing what to do she stood there.
“It was nice talking to you, Weronika, see you next week!” said Date, waving goodbye to her.
“Y-yeah, see you next week…” whispered Weronika, her face still red and waving goodbye to Date.
Weronika was too stunned to find her words, watching the browned hair girl slowly walk away, she gently touched her cheeks and can still feel the warming feeling on them. Weronika sat back down on the bench.
“Holy shit…” said Weronika, smiling to herself, letting out one last puff of smoke.
However, from a distance, Elsie was hiding behind the entrance, covering her mouth and slowly tearing up from what she witnessed.
“Weronika ... you idiot…” whispered Elsie, tears forming as she ran back inside, went up the stairs and went back to her room.
Weronika stood up and stepped on her cigar, taking a deep breath, as she looked up at the stars and smiled to herself.
“Let’s do this.” Weronika thought to herself as she went back inside.
