Work Text:
“Am I gonna feel something soon?” Vash asks.
“Dunno,” Wolfwood says. He doesn’t look up from the book he’s poring over on Vash’s desk. “It might take a minute. This kind of thing varies from person to person.”
“Okay,” Vash says, leaning his head back against the wall of his dorm. He kicks his legs lazily against the edge of his bed. Wolfwood glances over at him.
“You can spit that out, though,” Wolfwood tells him.
Vash reaches into his mouth and pulls the bit of paper out from under his tongue. He studies it for a moment before leaning over to toss it into the trash.
“This was a stupid idea,” Nai says.
“No one made you do it,” Wolfwood tells him, going back to his schoolwork.
“Like I was going to let Vash drop acid on his own,” Nai scoffs.
“I wouldn’t have been alone,” Vash reminds him.
“And you expect me to trust Wolfwood?” Nai asks.
“Hey,” Wolfwood says, looking over at them again. “I’m an excellent trip sitter. Besides I only gave you guys one tab. You’ll be fine.”
Nai huffs.
“Even if you wanted to be with him,” Wolfwood says. “Why did you agree to trip too?”
“Because I asked him to,” Vash says. Nai blushes and Vash giggles.
It’s true. Nai would do anything Vash asked him. Nai has a lot of rules. He likes to pick and choose which are important but he sticks to the ones he chooses hardcore. One of those is that drugs are bad. But all Vash has to do is ask and Nai is putting all of that aside to drop acid with him.
“I don’t know why you even wanted to do this in the first place,” Nai grumbles.
“I told you,” Vash says. “I want to feel the music again.”
Vash is a pianist. He and his brother both are. Vash has played the piano almost his entire life. He loves music. It’s just that lately, he hasn’t felt as connected to it. Nai told him it was probably just stress. Starting college is a big adjustment. Vash knows logically that that’s probably all it is but it still worries him. Nai can see that. That’s why he agreed to Vash’s crazy plan.
Maybe it is crazy, but Vash still wants to try. Plenty of musicians do drugs. Maybe not as many classically trained pianists, but the point stands. He wants to experience music in a new and different way. Maybe that will get the spark back for him.
He asks Nai because he’s a little scared to do it on his own. Vash doesn’t mess around with drugs much, just a little pot. He needs something bigger if he wants to make a change. Wolfwood probably would have done it with him, but this is something special. He wants to share this experience with his brother.
“Let me know when you start feeling anything,” Wolfwood tells him.
“Okay,” Vash says.
Vash stares idly at the wall across from him. He and Nai have a few posters up, mostly just from old westerns. The walls are a disgustingly bland off white color. There are scratches and holes scattered across the paint from the other students who had lived there before them. Vash traces the lines and angles with his eyes, not really paying attention to them. At some point, Vash realizes that the walls are starting to move. They look alive, swirling in lazy circles.
“I think…” Vash says slowly. “I might be feeling something.”
“Good,” Wolfwood says. “You should turn on the music, then.”
Vash pulls out his phone and stares at it. That’s where the music is, right? He can’t quite remember how to find it. After a minute, Wolfwood takes pity on him. He gets up and walks over to where is sitting on his bed.
“Gimme,” Wolfwood says. Vash hands over his phone and Wolfwood takes it. He taps on it a few times and music comes pouring out of their little speaker on his desk. Wolfwood hands him back his phone and gets back to studying.
Vash leans into his brother. The music still feels the same. Maybe it needs more time. He closes his eyes and rests his head on Nai’s shoulder.
“Have violins always sounded so… yellow?” Vash asks. It’s like he can almost see the color but it’s just out of his field of vision.
“Sounds more purple to me,” Nai tells him.
Wolfwood laughs. It’s low and brown, almost coffee colored.
“I think it’s working,” Wolfwood tells him. Vash nods. “How does it make you feel?”
“I dunno,” Vash says. “Kinda tingly.”
“Good,” Wolfwood says. He leans over and turns up the volume on the speaker.
A different song is on now. It’s one Vash has played before. He taps his fingers against his thigh in time with the notes. He can feel the touch echo through his entire leg.
“This one is rounder,” Nai says.
“Yeah,” Vash agrees. “Definitely rounder.”
Vash continues tapping his fingers against his leg, but suddenly he can’t feel it. He looks down to see his fingers are touching his brother’s thigh, not his own. He tries to move them but Nai covers Vash’s hand with his own.
“The flutes are red,” Vash tells him.
“Yeah,” Nai says. “Almost purple.”
Vash nods. The colors of the music bleed from red to purple to blue. This song is slower and more muted. Then the song changes and everything is suddenly so bright.
“Wow,” Vash says quietly.
“Having fun?” Wolfwood asks.
“Yeah,” Vash says, dragging the word out so the blue of it hangs in the air.
“What time is it?” Nai asks.
“About 7:30,” Wolfwood tells him.
Nai takes Vash’s hand and brings it to his own face. He holds Vash’s palm against his cheek. Vash can feel his brother resonating with the music. Nai is on the exact same wavelength that Vash is on. He can feel his brother’s soul pulsing to the music as the colors around them ebb and flow.
They stay like that for hours. One song blends into another. The piano in this one is beautiful. It’s the exact blue as his brother’s eyes. Vash stares into them. He can feel them as much as he can see them.
“What time is it?” Nai asks again.
“It’s 7:45,” Wolfwood tells him.
That can’t possibly be right. But Wolfwood wouldn’t lie to him. He trusts Wolfwood. Vash decides not to worry about it.
Wolfwood’s phone goes off. The bright pink interrupts the cool tones of the song playing on the speaker. Wolfwood puts the phone to his ear.
“Hey,” Wolfwood says. “What’s up?”
Vash watches him talk. He can’t make out the voice on the other end but it’s brighter and more orange than Wolfwood’s. It flows through the music in the air.
“Alright, I’ll be right there,” Wolfwood says and hangs up the phone. He puts it back in his pocket.
Wolfwood gets up and walks over to stand in front of Vash’s bed where he and his brother are sitting.
“Livio needs me for something,” Wolfwood tells him. “I’m gonna go help him but I’ll be right back.”
Vash nods, staring up at the reds and teals on the ceiling.
“Vash, look at me,” Wolfwood tells him. Vash does, with some effort. “I need you and your brother to stay in this room. I won’t be gone long. Just stay right here until I get back.”
“Okay,” Vash giggles. Wolfwood studies him for a moment like he’s not sure if he can trust him. Then he sighs and grabs his bag from the floor.
“I’ll be back soon,” Wolfwood tells him. “Just stay here. Everything is gonna be fine.”
Wolfwood walks out and the door shuts with a small gray burst behind him. Vash goes back to listening to the music. This one is much faster and pastel. He turns to stare at Nai as the music washes over him. After a minute or so, his brother notices him staring and turns to look at him.
“Hmm?” Nai asks.
“You’re very symmetrical,” Vash tells him. “Except… here.”
Vash puts a finger on his brother’s cheek over his mole.
“It’s still symmetrical,” Nai says. “The other half is right here.”
Nai puts his finger over Vash’s matching mole. Vash giggles. His brother’s voice is cool and silver. It hovers just above the rest of the music.
“You’re pretty,” Vash tells him.
“You’re the pretty one,” Nai says. “You’re beautiful.”
Vash grabs his brother’s face and holds it between his hands.
“We’re the same pretty,” Vash says.
Nai leans in and kisses him. His brother’s lips are soft and warm. He can hear Nai breathing in time with the music. Then Vash is breathing in time with Nai. The two of them exist completely in tandem.
Vash’s heart beats in an allegro as Nai slides a hand up under his shirt. The strings swirl in a mist of pinks and golds. His brother’s hands are warm on his cool skin. Vash shivers.
Nai takes Vash’s shirt and pulls it off over his head. It seems unfair for only Vash to be undressed though so he tries to take off Nai’s shirt too. The buttons are a struggle, but he manages it eventually. Vash shoves it off over his shoulders and Nai groans, low and purple.
Vash kisses down Nai’s chest and the tempo of his brother’s breathing swells from blue to green. Vash reaches his waist and fumbles with his brother’s belt. It’s harder even than the buttons but he gets that open too and pulls Nai’s cock out.
“Vash,” Nai groans. His brother’s voice is low and gruff.
Vash strokes Nai’s cock slowly and deliberately. He can hear his brother panting. It blends with the pale gold of the sonata. Nai’s cock is twitching in his hand. Vash runs a thumb over the tip and his brother’s hips jolt forward.
“Ah, shit,” Nai gasps.
Vash licks slyly at the tip. When he gets a good response from that, Vash drags his tongue all the way to the base. He likes listening to the sounds his brother is making almost as much as the music. Vash slides his brother’s cock into his mouth and Nai moans.
The rest of the world around them still feels hazy. The music wafts around them in shades of yellow and blue. Nai’s hand is tangled in his hair while his cock bumps against the back of Vash’s throat.
“Vash,” Nai mumbles. “Don’t wanna cum right away…”
“Sorry,” Vash giggles, pulling off of his cock. His mouth is still dripping saliva and precum.
Nai pulls him up to kiss him again. It’s much messier this time. Vash doesn’t really mind, though. He likes the sensations. It’s all wet and tingly.
Vash knows somewhere in the back of his mind that there are still other people in the world besides him and his brother but they don’t matter as much. Nai is here and his heart is beating in time with his own. They’re one soul in two bodies. It’s something he’s known before but it’s undeniable now.
“Can I…?” Nai gasps.
“Yeah,” Vash breathes.
Nai’s hands go straight to his brother’s belt. He must still be more coordinated than Vash because he gets it open with much less difficulty than Vash had had. Vash tries to get his pants off but it takes Nai’s help to manage it.
“Love you,” Nai pants.
“Love you, too,” Vash says, still laughing a little. Everything is just so much more fun right now. His heart is so full.
Nai pushes Vash’s pants off the side of the bed. They fall to the floor with a yellow thump. Nai’s hand immediately slips between his brother’s legs and he slides a finger inside him. Vash squirms at the sensation. It’s much more intense than it usually is. It’s already a little overwhelming.
“Lie down,” Nai tells him. He helps ease Vash onto his back and crawls between his legs.
Vash stares up at the ceiling. It’s painted white but today it’s a mural of colors and shapes. He closes his eyes and he can still see the music. It mixes with the sounds of his and his brother’s heavy breathing, creating a beautiful painting in his mind.
Nai pushes inside of him and Vash’s eyes flutter open again. He can feel every inch of his brother’s cock in his pussy. Every one of his senses is working overtime. The music is still playing, bright and lively, in time with his own heart.
Nai is thrusting into him and Vash can see the sounds of it. It’s as beautiful as the music. He can see it and hear it and feel it. All of his senses are overtaken by his brother.
“You feel so good,” Nai grunts. “It’s like… you’re in my head.”
“Yeah,” Vash gasps. “Like we’re the same.”
Nai laces his fingers with Vash’s. He leans down to kiss him again. Their frequency is the same. They’re in perfect resonance.
“Nai, please,” Vash whines. He knows that his brother will understand him.
Nai does. He reaches down to rub at Vash’s clit. The music is building to a crescendo, the pale blues and greens bleeding into a bright red. Vash wraps his legs around his brother’s waist and digs his fingers into his shoulders.
“Nai,” Vash gasps. That’s all he can get out before he’s cumming, harder than he thinks he ever has before.
Nai is still moving but Vash’s mind is easing back into an adagio. The music is low and cool as Vash breathing gradually slows. Eventually Nai stops moving and Vash can feel his brother’s cock pulsing inside of him and filling him with cum.
Nai collapses onto him, his cock softening inside of his brother’s pussy. Vash wraps his arms around him, pulling Nai close.
“That was amazing,” Nai breathes into his ear.
“Yeah,” Vash says, still a little out of breath. “We should definitely do this again.”
The two of them lay like that for a while. At some point, Nai pulls out and Vash can feel cum spilling down his thigh. Vash curls up into his brother’s side, staring up at the ceiling. The music is still hanging gently in the air, the colors swirling and mixing behind his eyes.
“Hey, guys,” Wolfwood says, walking back into the room. “Sorry that took so long.”
He looks over to find Vash and Nai tangled up together on Vash’s bed and rolls his eyes.
“Can you guys put some clothes on?” Wolfwood sighs. When they don’t move, he grabs a blanket and tosses it over them. Nai moves just enough to pull the blanket so it covers them both.
Wolfwood sits down at Vash’s desk and pulls his books back out. He glances over at the two of them.
“You still okay?” Wolfwood asks. “It’s gonna be a minute until you come down.”
“Yeah,” Vash says vaguely. “I’m good.”
“Was your experiment successful?” Wolfwood asks. “Do you feel the music again?”
Vash continues staring up at the ceiling, watching the music blend into the sound of his brother’s breathing. He smiles as all of the sensations wash over him.
“I do,” Vash says. “I definitely do.”
