Chapter Text
Once the dessert arrived, as promised, the pictures of Clarke’s childhood and the girls' crazy haircuts during high school and college were shown around. Clarke saw Lexa take pictures with her phone and knew she would use them later to make fun of her. Clarke really did have crazy haircuts when she was younger.
It was time to leave for the game. Raven jumped into Octavia and Lincoln’s car with Lexa, leaving Clarke riding with her parents and Bellamy, Monty, Murphy and Jasper riding together. Clarke could not say anything about the driving arrangement without being suspicious so she simply got into the car.
Abby was not the more talkative person to exist so it was mostly Jake who made the conversation. The ride took nearly an hour and by the time the gang gathered again, she could see that Lexa and Lincoln had changed into dark vests with oversized hats covering half of their face. Clarke smiled when she noticed the scarf Lexa was wearing, and smiled even more when she noticed Lexa closing her eyes while her nose was buried in it.
Lincoln led them to the gate and they found their seat pretty easily. They were placed right beside the opposite goal, which meant in the second half, they would be directly beside Anya.
“Wow Lexa you did really well with those places!”
“thank you Sir, it’s the least I could do after, you know”
“Punching me? Yeah!” He was laughing but Lexa was still embarrassed about the event, even more now that she had made Clarke come in the family house.
“Murphy, you’re coming with us, we’re going to grab beers”
Bellamy took the opportunity to sit beside Clarke, while Lexa was speaking with Jake and Raven to Octavia and Lincoln.
“So, care to tell me why Lexa is wearing your scarf?”
“She hum, she did not have one”
“Oh so Lexa million dollars Woods, best friend with the goal keeper does not own a scarf of the club we’re watching play?”
“She forgot it home”
“Whatever suits you Clarke, just be careful, she seems nice tho!”
“Here you go, every one grabs two beers! Ain’t no way I’m going back to the bar when half of the stadium is in the waiting line”
“EVERYONE SAY THANK YOU TO MURPHY”
They all yelled thank you Murphy, following Raven’s lead.
“HEY!”
“EVERYONE SAY THANK YOU TO JASPER”
“THANK YOU JASPER”
“EVERYONE SAY THANK YOU TO MONTY”
“THANK YOU MONTY”
This time, the people sitting behind them joined them and they all started chatting and laughing before the game. The noise brought the attention of the camera crew, who zoomed on the group, finding Lexa and Lincoln in the crowd before putting them on the huge screen for everyone to see.
“Hey, are you Lexa woods?”
“OMG” “CAN WE GET A PICTURE”
“Hey, hum yes sure” Clarke noticed Lexa’s change, she looked uncomfortable but it only lasted for a second. She put on her professional mask, smiled, took time to sign autographs and took some pictures with the fans. Then it was Lincoln's turn and the blonde saw Lexa let out a relieved breath. It was over for now. She waited for the fans to leave before sitting beside Lexa, whispering in her ear.
“Hey, are you okay?”
“Yes..”
“I wish I could hug you or kiss you right now”
“I know Clarke but, this is what I’m afraid off, I don’t want you to be bothered every time we’re together”
“Lexa, hey look at me”
Lexa’s eyes finally reached Clarke’s.
“I’m not going anywhere”
“You will, at some point,... people are always tired of this, of never being alone, never having intimacy”
Clarke took the risk of leaning even more against her. “I would not say we have not intimacy Lex” Her smirk managed to get a small smile out of Lexa.
“Yes but, we would never be able to just walk on the street watching the Christmas lights, going to the beach or groceries shopping.”
“We’ll figure it out Lex, and who knows, I might become even more famous than you are!”
They smiled at each other and the speaker announced the start of the game. At the presentation of the local team, they cheered loudly and cheered even more at the introduction of Anya. The woman looked like a warrior, her eyes intimidating and her fists clenched. They aligned for the official picture and drew the starting team.
They saw Anya walking to the cages, facing each side of the stadium and throwing her arms up, galvanizing the supporters. The game started and Anya managed to stop 3 goals. Each time making them hold their breath and yell louder and louder. Clarke’s hands were arching for Lexa’s, wanting to touch her and be close to her but in a full stadium it was too risky.
The half time arrived and the group parted to either go to the bathroom or grab more beers. Raven and Murphy were whispering to each other animatedly. Clarke did not know if she wanted to know what they were up to but she was pretty sure it was about Raven trying to go on a date with the goalkeeper.
The game started again and the Angel City Fc was leading by one goal against zero. As soon as the game ended, Clarke jumped into Lexa’s arms, unable to not celebrate with her. They held each other for a whole minute before being pulled out of their little world by Anya running toward them. Lincoln and Lexa went as close to her as possible, hugging her tightly as Raven was unable to move. Jake elbowed Clarke.
“Raven finally met her match?” He said laughing. “You get it kiddo? Because a game is also called a match in French and I’m pretty sure they could light a fire just by being close, a match Clarke”
She laughed at her father’s silliness, glad he was back. She had missed his dumb jokes so much. She saw Raven take a deep breath and the screen above Anya’s cages lit up suddenly. A message was written in pink letters, saying ‘You’re the number one on the field, care to be the goalkeeper of my heart?’
It was so cheesy that it took a minute for Clarke to put the two and two together. It was only when she saw the drawing of a raven at the bottom of the screen that she understood. Raven had hacked the screen of the stadium. They were going to get arrested, or worse, expelled.
The crowd cheered up, clearly understanding the message was directed at Anya and the camera switched to the athlete standing meters away from Clarke. She saw her take out her jersey, asking a fan for a pen and writing something down. She scanned the crowd and did not take too much time to find who she was looking for. Raven still had not moved. To freak out and too stressed to realize what was happening and thus receiving the jersey on the face, in front of the whole stadium as the camera had followed Anya’s movement.
“Did she really do that?”
“Yes Mom, she did”
“I miss you guys! Well, it was fun! Thank you again Lexa and I guess we’ll never be allowed back in the stadium so you’re now invited for game night at home”
Clarke saw Anya and the rest of the team touring the stadium, stopping to sign autographs and take pictures before going back to the changing room. The crowd was leaving quickly while the gang waited for the commotion to subside.
Clarke started to understand what it really meant to be famous, to have people look up to you. You were not allowed any mistake anymore. Everyone knew about Lexa being there, about Lincoln too. She had no certainty about the pilot being picked up or even people caring about her personal life but she knew if the tv show had an audience, it would soon be her life too. Lexa was right, she could not be able to go anywhere without having her picture posed on the internet but she was not as famous as Lexa, they just had to keep their relationship to themself.
It would be hard and they definitely would have ups and downs, but right now, looking at the woman who stole her heart with her kindness and her beautiful laugh, Clarke had no doubt they would work through it all.
