Chapter Text

He awoke to a familiar sound. Teru’s groaned as he recognized the obnoxious tone of his patrol alarm.

As he got up, he realized the time. He was late, the alarm had been ringing for the past 10 minutes.

Teru quickly jumped out of bed, grabbing his yukata and sword, quickly changing and hopping down the stairs. As he dashed out, he saw the food Kou had left for him on the table. He frowned. Kou hadn’t woken him up for dinner.

Shrugging it off, the blonde rushed out the door to see his patrol walking around the corner. Teru sped up, finally reaching them.

They turned when they saw him, expressions twisted in annoyance.

“Look who finally decided to join us,” one sneered. Teru ignored him.

“Sorry, I lost track of time, it won’t happen again,” Teru said shortly.

The exorcists shrugged, not bothering to waste their time on the kid.

The patrol continued.
-
As Teru walked home, he tensed. A strong supernatural was in the area. He sighed before running in the direction of the demon.

He planned to just charge and exorcise it with one strike of his sword, but the damn thing was smart. Too smart.

An arm reached out at Teru right when he had jumped at the thing.

It caught Teru by the throat.

Teru quickly moved his arm to slice the demon’s arm off, but another arm clawed his wrist, batting the sword away.

Teru watched as his sword clattered against the ground. For the first time in a while, Teru felt real fear. Usually he’d just be annoyed if a supernatural managed to land a blow on him, but without his sword things were dangerous.

He tried to move his now bleeding hand to reach for his beaded bracelet, but the hand around his neck tightened, causing Teru to choke.

The clawed hand dug its claws into Teru’s bracelet arm, effectively cutting off any chance of him using it. Now both of the boy’s arms were oozing blood.
The supernatural turned around finally, revealing its seven eyes and sharp teeth.

Teru sneered at it. The supernatural suddenly let go of him, flinging him onto the ground. The force was enough to knock him out for a moment.

Teru quickly regained consciousness, barely dodging a killing blow. Claws raked his torso, slicing through his yukata and digging into his soft skin.

Teru quickly leaped at his sword, turning around to exorcise it, before he could release his black lightning, the supernatural lunged at him, sinking its teeth into Teru’s stomach. The boy gasped, quickly changing the direction of the sword and stabbing the wretched creature.

With a blast of lightning, the stupid thing disintegrated with its teeth still embedded in Teru’s stomach.

When the thing was gone, Teru stumbled back, falling to the ground. He was losing blood fast, and he had to bandage the wound asap.

He quickly stumbled back home, opening the door with his still bleeding arm.

He felt faint, and he wasn’t sure if it was the loss of blood, lack of food, or lack of sleep. Hell, it probably was all of them.

He grabbed bandages, taking off his bloody yukata and wrapping his stomach tightly. He managed to cover his ribs as well, because of the gash there from the supernaturals claws.

After his torso was taken care of, Teru moved to his arms. Now that he wasn’t in immediate danger, he thought about how that supernatural did so much damage to him.

Was the supernatural that strong or was Teru slipping? It had to be the latter. He was already late for the patrol, messing up so much. Why couldn’t he do anything right today?

Putting his bandages away, he checked the time. He noticed the sun already peeking through the window, and his heart sank as he read the clock.

5:59.

Shit, Kou was going to wake up right now.

Teru quickly changed into his school uniform, wincing as the cloth pushed against his stomach.

He just decided to pack his backpack and go back downstairs. The dinner Kou made for him was still on the table, and Teru quickly stuffed it in his bag. He didn’t want Kou knowing he didn’t eat since yesterday morning.

Teru would eat it for lunch. He wasn’t going to let Kou’s astounding cooking go to waste. A few minutes later, a yawning Kou came down the stairs. His eyes brightened as he saw his brother, and Teru tried to reciprocate the feeling.

But oh he felt like shit.

“Good morning, Kou,” Teru smiled. He hoped Kou wouldn’t notice anything wrong.

“Morning Teru-nii!” Kou replied brightly. “Did you eat the food i made last night?”

“Yep,” Teru lied. “Delicious as always!”
