Work Text:

Another morning begins in Pontypandy as the sun rises from the East of the coastline. The birds flew in singing from the trees. The fire station is empty and not too busy. Across the street is Sam's house. Penny has finally settled into her new home after she sold her home because of numerous incidents that required Police involvement. Both she and Sam were peacefully asleep until Penny woke up facing him. "Morning, Sam." She said.

"Morning, my love."

"What's up with you today?"

"Not much... So glad you moved into my home. Honestly... I'm thankful you're safe."

"Yeah... Well... Honestly, I wasn't sure if I could stay in my old home after a while."

"Right..."

"But... I am very grateful to have you beside me... Not just as my colleague, but also as my boyfriend."

Sam smiled and he locked eyes with Penny before they kissed each other and Penny rested her hand on his face. He blushed and locked eyes with her again. They kissed each other for a minute before Sam looked at the time. "Aren't we needed at the Fire Station?" Penny asked.

"Not until 8:00 in the Morning. It's only 6:00 in the Morning. Recommended arrival time is 1 hour before shift."

"I wonder what Station Officer Steele has for us?"

"My guess is some new gear."

"Maybe new equipment?"

"Or maybe a new vehicle."

Sam smiled as Penny climbed out of bed. She went ahead to the bathroom for a shower. Sam texted Elvis about the Empty Fire Station. Elvis told him that there was something planned but he wasn't sure what happened. After they both got ready, they walked to the Fire Station as Ellie and Arnold joined in. "Hey, Sam!" Arnold called to them.

"Hey, guys. How was your weekend?"

"Amazing! I spent the night at Ellie's house. I can honestly say that Ellie's weekend was awesome! She spent a great shift at the hospital with great reviews from her patients and their families."

"Yeah. How much were you betting?"

"Gladly... £10."

"More like £50."

"Ha! In your dreams, Arnold! More like £300." Ellie remarked.

"Hey guys, look!!!" Elvis called to them.

"Oh... Great Fires of London!" Sam exclaimed.

"Whoa!! What's this?" Penny asked.

As the rest of the Firefighters came in, Elvis was standing at the doorway to the back of the station seeing a new Jupiter. Sam looked at it too and he was impressed. "We got a new vehicle?" Ellie asked.

"News to me."

"Big comfy seats in here, Sam... I mean... Look at it!"

"Tell them... Tell them about the heater." Ellie added.

"The heater... It's like a little touch of sunshine in the dash."

"Well, is there an angel playing a golden harp nearby? Because somebody answered my prayers." Steele chimed as he stepped in.

"How'd you manage the upgrade, Sir?" Sam asked his senior officer.

"Ah... That... Well, uh..."

"It says it was last used by the City of... Chicago."

"So, CFD used it?"

"Yep."

"What house?"

"Hmm... There's gotta be documentation somewhere."

"Maybe this might help! The last company it was used for was Truck Company... 81." Penny said looking at the numbers on the note.

"Aha! Firehouse 51! That's Captain Casey. Knowing his work as an Alderman in the 52nd Ward, he probably asked someone he worked with to donate this truck to us."

Just as Station Officer Steele was climbing out to see the note, the map screen turned on and he ran up to find out what the call was. "2 People are trapped inside their car after a Vehicle crash and are stuck near the edge of Pontypandy Quay. An off-duty Police Officer is already at the scene." The map screen read out loud.

Steele wasted no time sounding the alarm before he reached for the Microphone. Sam and Penny went to work grabbing their uniforms as he repeated the message. "2 People are trapped inside their car after a Vehicle crash and are stuck near the edge of Pontypandy Quay. An off-duty Police Officer is already at the scene. Action Stations, Everyone!!!!" He bellowed.

Ellie rushed to the new Fire Service Ambulance as Jupiter was being driven by Penny. Venus got an upgrade and Sam was driving Venus. The sirens were also new as they drove to the quay. As they came towards the scene, Station Officer Steele arrived first in his new car as the off-duty officer was hanging onto the car. "HEY!!! OVER HERE!!! She shouted.

Station officer Steele got out of the car, rushed over, and used all his strength until the rest of the crew arrived and they got to work. "Rope Bags, Harnesses, Winch Cable, and Wrap a sling around the Car frame!!!" Sam ordered.

"Who's in the car?!" Steele asked.

"Two people... I don't know... Police Officers... maybe."

"Come on, Arnold!!! Chop-Chop!!!" Sam yelled to him.

Arnold came in running attaching the sling to the car frame and securing the cable to Venus. Penny and Elvis rushed in to help Sam, Steele, and the off-duty officer with the car. The car was soon secured and Sam got a good look at who was in the car. "Sir!! Malcolm and Rose are in there!!!" He shouted.

"Roger that!!! Cridlington, help me Stabilize the car!!! Fireman Sam!!! Firefighter Morris!!! Get down there and get PC Malcolm and Sergeant Ravani!!!" The station officer ordered.

Sam and Penny removed their turnout coats and secured themselves to the harnesses. Arnold attached the ropes to Venus. Elvis checked the strength of each rope before Penny and Sam put their helmets on and went down to rescue their two police officers. "Penny!! You get Malcolm... I got Rose!!" Sam told her.

"Roger that, Sam!!"

The officers looked outside and noticed Sam and Penny at their car doors. Penny and Sam looked at them and Penny had to figure out how it would work. "Sam. Turn the car off without moving it." Penny instructed.

"Got it."

"Right... You two. Listen very carefully. I need you both to keep still and lock eyes with us. Malcolm, lock eyes with me. Rose, lock eyes with Sam. Once you lock eyes with us, use your right arm to reach out to us, and lunge into our arms. Got it?" Penny noted as the two officers did as instructed.

Malcolm and Rose slowly got out of the car as instructed and Arnold had Ben ready in case the car went into the sea. Tom was also in the air in case he needed to make a rescue from the air. Both officers went to Sam and Penny before Station Officer Steele gave the order to pull them up to the others just as the Welsh Ambulance Service, Newtown Police, and South Wales Police arrived on the scene. "All right... You good, Sergeant?" Penny asked.

"Yeah. Thanks, Penny. What happened?"

"You were in an RTC. The car was almost in the sea. Lucky we got you out of there."

"Yeah... Who was it that crashed into us?"

"Some off-duty Police Officer."

"Hmm..."

Ellie rushed over to check on Rose while Helen was called to check on her brother. Sam and Penny met up with each other out by Jupiter. They looked at the scene and the evidence. "Well?" Sam asked.

"Malcolm's alright. Helen's just checking him over to make sure."

"That's brother and sister for you. Erm... While I have you here. Notice anything odd?"

"No. Why?"

Sam escorted her to the car that Rose and Malcolm were involved with as Elvis and Arnold pulled the Pontypandy Police car back to the road. Penny looked at the other car and the number plates didn't add up. "So... Number plate is not from the UK." She remarked.

"And there are 12 stars with a single letter in the blue band."

"What's the letter?"

"S."

"Are you saying this car is from Sweden, love?"

"Between you and me... Yes."

"Let's ask Ellie."

And just as Sam and Penny were walking to talk to Ellie, she was taking Rose to the Fire Service Ambulance. Ellie looked at the two and she asked Helen to take over for a moment. "What's up, you two?" Ellie asked.

"We were wondering if you know something about this car." Added Penny.

"Which one?"

"That Volvo over there by the Ocean Rescue Centre."

"Oh... Yeah. The occupant of the car went with the Welsh Ambulance Service. Before they transported her, I checked her over for any injuries. Minor bruising to her neck and cuts on her head. She's also got minor abdominal bruising but other than that, she's fine."

"Did she tell you anything?"

"What? No. Why?"

"Station Officer Steele said that an off-duty Police Officer was here." Replied Sam

"Hmm... Ok. Maybe I did notice it but Station Officer Steele was too busy." Ellie told him.

"What is it?"

"She's an off-duty Police Officer from the Swedish Police."

"Is there a name for that?"

"Erm... Only a surname. Svensson."

"That would be Maria Svensson." Rose added.

"How did you know, Sergeant?" Asked Penny.

"She was scheduled to be here under her duties for the Police and helping us with an arrest for a criminal wanted in the UK and Sweden."

Ellie was suddenly blushing and Sam and Penny noticed. Even Rose had noticed. The three of them looked at Ellie and Ellie looked back at them. "What?" She asked.

"You're blushing, Ellie." Penny answered.

"Am I? I haven't noticed!"

"Well, if you had a mirror, maybe you could see it." Rose added.

"Why?"

"Ellie... What's going on?" Sam asked again.

"Let's talk at the Station. Helen. How's Rose?"

"She'll be ok. No other injuries. I do recommend taking an hour or two off just to relax from this mess."

"If you're sure. I'd recommend she see the hospital. Just to be safe."

"I'll drive, Ellie!" Chimed Elvis.

"Thanks, Elvis."

Ellie and Elvis got the Ambulance ready as Helen stepped out before Sam closed the doors to the back of the ambulance once Ellie was in there with Rose. Elvis drove off with them to the hospital. Sam and Penny were not sure what went wrong but wanted to know what happened to Ellie. After Arnold secured both the car from Sweden and the Police car, packed up all the gear, and blocked off the damaged section of the quay, they drove back to the fire station. Arnold drove Jupiter back with Sam and Penny in Venus. They arrived back at the Station and went up to the kitchen. Penny was the first to sit down on the sofa before Sam joined her. They both had no idea that Ellie was up to something. Penny leaned herself into Sam as he joined her on the sofa and closed her eyes. "Long night?" Sam asked.

"Yeah... A long night with the love of my life... And that... Is you."

"I'd thought you might say that."

Penny smiled and leaned up to kiss him. And at that moment, Ellie had just arrived back from the hospital. She came into the kitchen only to see Elvis and Arnold pointing at Sam and Penny locked into their kiss. They all took photos and kept it to themselves. Elvis couldn't help but snicker a bit. Ellie was trying her best to keep them from getting caught. Penny heard the snickering and looked at the three. "What are you three up to?" Penny asked them.

"Nothing, Penny."

"Really?"

"Yeah."

"You sure?"

"Penny. Have we lied to you?" Ellie asked.

"You sure have. Well... mainly Elvis. But not you and Arnold, Ellie."

Penny gave them a stare with her hand on her hip and they realized they would be in hot water if caught. Ellie had no choice but to tell the truth. "Ok, Penny. I'm sorry. We took a photo of you and Sam sharing a Romantic Moment... Well... Your kiss." Ellie told her.

"Why, Ellie?"

"I don't know... maybe for your memories."

"Ellie. How upset would you be if I did that to you?"

"Incredibly upset."

"Yes. So, here's what I want. Send it to me but keep this between us. And you two... Your photos were blurry. I'd suggest deleting them. Ellie had the better photo."

Elvis and Arnold deleted their photos but Ellie sent hers to Penny. Sam was still unaware and Penny rejoined him before Ellie came back to her. "Hey, Penny. You know that off-duty officer from the RTC?" Ellie asked.

"No. Why?"

"I was uh... Wondering if we can go and check in on her."

"Ellie... Normally, every paramedic just brings a patient to the hospital, hands them off to the doctors, completes a rundown sheet, and then returns to the station like nothing has happened."

"Yeah."

"Well... When I was at 51, they just left that behind for some."

"Yeah..."

"Tell you what, let's take a ride."

"Ok... I know someone at the hospital who can give me insight into this patient. Isabel Gonzales-Rivera. She's a triage nurse from Mexico. Works A&E."

Ellie grabbed her radio and headed for the ambulance. Penny grabbed her phone and looked at Sam. He looked at her and Penny helped him up before he grabbed his phone and checked the time. "I'll be back, Sam. Ellie and I are going to the hospital. She's catching on to the rule that 51 has." Penny told him.

"Go on. I'll let you know if anything comes up."

Penny kissed him and she went off with Ellie to the Hospital. She seemed to find out something that Sam has no idea about but no one wants to get in trouble over. Ellie texted her friend that they were on their way.
