The Hand That Takes

Chapter 7: Inside You are Two Wolves

Chapter Text

Multicoloured rays of sunshine spread across Enid’s bed. Underneath this rainbow of warming energy, a wolf and a raven slept intertwined. The wolf’s limbs spread out in all directions with an arm underneath the raven’s neck and a leg between her legs. The raven held the other firmly, as if she could find succor from her life’s solitude just by being wrapped around her partner. Head in her hair and arm resting across her chest. The pair still naked in body and in their newly requited feelings for each other. An air of peace cocooned their slumber.

Six floors below in the Ophelia Hall common area Yoko and Vlad were already awake and ready for the day, preparing some coffee to share together.

Yoko started. “So… did you hear the goth getting the brains fucked out of her last night?”

Vlad’s face somehow both paled and flushed.

The vampire smiled and went for the kill. “Definitely didn’t need super hearing to pick up on the… climax… of that racquet.”

Vlad sputtered coffee back into his raised cup. “Yoko… I’m not talking about this.”

“You’re not… I am. I always knew Wednesday was brave but taking on a werewolf just a couple weeks out from her first transformation… you might need to do a wellness check... Bring some Gatorade, she might’ve lost a lot of fluids…”

Vlad groaned, shut his eyes, and deflated. “Christ… Yoko… I can’t talk to you like this anymore.”

Yoko burst out laughing. “Vlad, dude... I still remember when you first came to this school, as an adorable little seventeen year old. We were both in this dorm together.” She leaned in and gave him a big hug as he huffed at her, his arms firmly at his side. “And I missed fucking with my favourite Psionic. Remember I was the one who asked that normie Christina to prom for you, and if I recall correctly you guys were the ones making a racquet that night.”

“Yoko… you are… one of my better friends… but also the most insufferable vampire.”

“One of your bestest friends.” The vampire supplied shaking him slightly in an even tighter hug, before grabbing her coffee and a blood bag to go from the fridge. “Divina’s coming, I know your Mr. dorm mom now but when its just us your back to Vlad the chad, normie slayer.” Vlad chuckled quietly and shook his head.

Yoko opened the door to the common room right before Divina, startling her, before they both head out for the day’s classes. Meeting up with their unusually relaxed friends. The vampire making eye contact with Enid who quickly looked away, slightly red cheeked.

Enid was having the best day of her life. She woke up covered in a very topical rainbow of sunlight considering last night’s activities. Nice and warm, with her goth’s still nude body wrapped around her. A goth that had definitely come home with a mission. The fact that her life now had moments where she got to see Wednesday look at her with an extremely horny look on her face and it was for her, and she got to do something about it. Was bliss. And and the wolf was now very aware that their first intimate contact in the shower last semester had given her raven a bit of a getting her butt touched fetish… She had for sure made the right move yesterday giving Wends a show coming out of the shower… And I guess I owe that stupid werewolf boy a thanks for getting her worked up kicking his ass. And an ass kicking for even trying her. She growled quietly thinking about it. Then calmed when she sniffed the air and picked up on the scent of her and Wends combined that was releasing from each of them.

The pair shared their first class of the day, upper-level Outcast Biology, a fairly intense class now that they were learning about why vampire epidermis cells react to UV radiation and the latest physics theories of how psychic based powers work. Not the class to be daydreaming about Wednesday while just eye fucking the shit out of her in. But she was just perfect. She could answer every question their prof asked and expand on it. Listening to her academically describe how exactly vampire skin cells break down and combust just did something to her. The girl’s Nevermore uniform also seemed like it just fit her soo well now too. Now that the wolf intimately knew what was under it… Her voice was so commanding and intimidating right now ,but she had heard Wends breathless and begging just a matter of hours ago really.

Wednesday side eyed her, whispering. “Enid, you’re practically drooling. Whatever you’re thinking we can revisit it when we get back to the dorm.” Enid startled a bit and straightened up, while Wednesday moved her hand to rest her pinky on the other girls and crossed her legs.

A powerful growling started a couple rows behind them. The pair turned around along with several other students noticing the sound, to see Sapphira sitting in a row with Bianca and another injured wolf, who only one of the pair recognized. The alpha wolf was staring intently at them, eyes hyper focused on the previously caressing fingers. The siren was focused on talking to some gorgon girl next to her, but the beaten wolf’s eyes were shifting between the alpha and the goth, dripping with jealousy. Wednesday turned back, putting her hand on Enid’s, “Ignore them mi loba-”

BOOM! A loud slam echoed through the now deathly quiet room. Sapphira had smashed a fist sized crater into the table and exploded up, launching her chair backwards. Simultaneously Enid leapt in a blur of instantaneous movement up and between the alpha and her goth, arms wide, claws extended, snarling a warning of death to anyone that approached.

“Sapphira! Enid! Back down NOW!” Professor Kennedy yelled, himself a werewolf, knowing the need to dominate the situation before some kind of challenge is made. The pair just stood, sizing each other up. “Sapphira! Out now before I come up there!”

The alpha narrowed her eyes, shifting them from Enid to their professor, himself a very large man. She straightened letting out a huff of breath before turning to leave, giving Enid a murderous look. “Mark your days, freak.” She whispered just loud enough for only Enid to hear. Before leaving the classroom, along with the injured wolf… and a spattering of other wolves around the classroom.

She has a pack. Enid thought, a sense of foreboding growing in her. Eyeing each wolf as they left, claws still extended, her body covering Wednesday’s until the last wolf exited.

“Okay shows over, but class isn’t. Enid I’d like to see you after class. Now where were we.”

Enid slowly sat back down, noticeably closer to her goth and without any of the previous calm, senses still on high alert. Only then did she look over at Wednesday, and notice the heated look on her face. Her pupils wide, mouth slit open, she licked her lips once, swallowed and leaned towards the blonde. “I like you savage. Save some for later.” Enid smiled shyly.

After class Enid was told the obvious by Professor Kennedy, that Sapphira and every wolf in the class could tell her and Wednesday were an item now. And that clearly Sapphira wanted to challenge that. She made her way to her next class. Enid knew she needed to be careful, since she had defeated the hyde her stock had skyrocketed in the werewolf community. With everyone except my family… And now wolves that didn’t even consider her to be a werewolf before suddenly saw her as an enigma. A normally always weak and underdeveloped late-wolf that not only wasn’t weak but fought and won against the preeminent terror of the outcast world. She was a challenge to the accepted order of werewolf society, just by existing, and now she had “claimed” a very prized potential mate. Even if Wednesday wasn’t a wolf she had renown for both being an Addams and her actions last semester. So for her, a late-wolf who ought to be the one claimed, to be with such a prized mate and not back down to an alpha. It was a bold move.

God, she hated that her life was railroaded by these outdated ideas. She couldn’t just be Enid, instead a pack hierarchy was thrust on her, to dictate every part of her life. Even how she loved… had to conform to it. Before Wednesday… the blonde knew eventually, even though she was a disappointment nobody wanted, someone would decide she was worthy to be below them. They would claim her and everyone Enid knew would agree that she was theirs now… except Yoko, she always scared off any overly traditional wolves who showed interest in her. Probably appearing in their dorm rooms one night all red glowy eyes, fangs, and claws. The vampire used to sometimes show up to breakfast suspiciously full, whatever pushy boy mysteriously hospital bound and soon to switch schools. But she still knew, eventually, Yoko wouldn’t be able to protect her forever and that’d be that. Until a completely psycho goth entered her life and freaked her the fuck out… at first. Then she started showing her other sides, the sides that treated Enid like a person with inherent value. One who could be strong and could fight for her place in the world. That taking space wasn’t taking up space. She had a right to agency. And last semester when she saw that girl held in the air at the mercy of just another pushy boy she didn’t cower… she raged… and turned for the first time for her. Now the world still wanted her to fit in their mold. Only as the oppressor, the alpha. Enid vowed, she would never do that to Wednesday. Or let anyone try… sitting in her second class the wolf gripped her fists hard. I’ll kill that fucking wolf if she tries to claim Wednesday.

Wednesday stood in the courtyard, waiting in the lunch line for Enid to show. Yoko and Divina had arrived early, snatching up a table for the group before all were taken. She could see them now, sitting side by side, deep in conversation. Yoko’s leg curled up on the bench, her knee resting on the siren’s thigh, her hands flying through the air as she spoke. They had a curious relationship, the vampire was very touchy and affectionate with Divina, her personality nearly as colourful and dare she say girly as Enid’s. Divina was not… it was clear she cared deeply for her vampire, but she seemed compelled to act nonchalant about it. To hide her affections to moments she thought no one could see, a defensiveness inherent to her. She dressed in athletic or stereotypically masculine clothing and held herself in a way that reminded Wednesday of the hockey players her brother and father bonded over watching. It was curious to the goth that both hers and their relationships involved pairs that differed so radically from each other. Especially since she knew from Enid’s nonstop gossiping that the vampire very much was the dominate one in bed. A femme top and a masc bottom… I wonder if that is a common feature of lesbian relationships.

“Whatcha thinking bout?” Her wolf skipped up into Wednesday’s space, taking her by surprise and launching into a squeezing hug.

“Only your beauty, mi loba.” Wednesday leaned into give Enid a chaste kiss. “Always”

The blonde flushed, looking down at her shoes for a second. “Stop it. Where’s Yoko and Divina?”

“Over at that table, what do you want for lunch, ill bring it over.”

“Whatever you’re having.” Enid instinctually said, looking over at their groups table.

Wednesday lifted to hand to cup her wolf’s face, bringing Enid’s eyes to hers. “I said what do you want for lunch.”

Enid frowned momentarily, an older part of the wolf telling her not to make demands. Until she stopped to look into Wednesday’s eyes. Eyes demanding nothing but her desires. “…Meat, lots of meat.” She offered with a radiant smile.

“Lots of meat you’ll have, I’ll bring it to the table. Go sit.” Enid smiled again and skipped her way over to Yoko and Divina.

Wednesday reached the table moments later, hearing conversation about the mornings big event. Apparently, the whole school had heard by now that Enid and Sapphira basically had a fight to the death in class, that Professor Kennedy had to wolf out to stop. The schools rumour mill had lost none of its accuracy over winter break it would appear. But inane adolescent gossip was not what the seer wanted to talk about. Wednesday remembered how Yoko had reacted days ago to Xavier’s revelation about this Calum figure. She wanted to know if sweet revenge needed to be visited upon someone.

“Yoko. I noticed before that you seem to know this fugitive outcast Calum. Xavier mentioning him seemed to trouble you. If you are able, I would like to know if he is someone who needs to meet a violent end?” Silence took over the table. Enid quietly listening. Divina looking over at her vampire with a look of knowing concern. Evidently, she’s told her about it by now.

Yoko took a deep breath, with a sad distant look, then focussed, ready. “No, he doesn’t need a violent end… He used to go to Nevermore.” The vampire looked over to Divina who nodded, offering her hand and her comfort. “He and I dated, about five years ago when he was here. We were pretty serious, and it ended badly… His mom hated me. She was a normie, his dad wasn’t, but they divorced, and she got custody of him and his brother under the condition they went to Nevermore like his dad had. She wasn’t comfortable with outcasts but cause they were telekinetics she could just ignore it in her sons I guess… couldn’t ignore me though. We started dating his first year, he finally introduced me to her several years later.”

Yoko looked uncomfortable, she never liked acknowledging the difference in years between her and the group. Vampires saw age differently, once they were turned a vampire was seen as adolescent for decades after by their society. She had been a vampire for almost 20 years, at nevermore for half of those, but her graduation was close, same as the rest of them. And to other vampires she was just on the cusp of adulthood.

Yoko continued. “Rowan was his brother.” She locked eyes with Wednesday. Both of them experiencing a moment of sorrow. “And like him Calum started to lose his grip a bit. I noticed it two years into our relationship, but it just got worse over time… I could bring him back though, he’d get confused or paranoid… sometimes angry, but trusted me absolutely. I could talk him down or just sooth him… We still had some really good times though, he was loving and funny, just started to lose himself…”

Enid softly added. “I remember his name, didn’t something happen at Nevermore? I always heard he blew up part of Ophelia Hall.”

“Ya… everything started to go bad after he introduced me to his mom. I think I reminded her he was an outcast, and she didn’t approve of my age… he tried to explain that I was his age to vampires and that it took extra time for vampires to mature. Cause we’re… you know… dead. Technically. Traditionally were turned at eighteen, our bodies still age just stop aging at full maturity, like twenty-five. Which takes us a couple decades.” Yoko was defensively rambling, until Divina squeezed her hand. “It’s okay Yokes, nobodies attacking you.”

She sighed deeply. “She hated me, and they fought constantly over it. He was spiraling. Eventually he stopped going home and just stayed with me in Ophelia... and started to get better… I swear… until she came here one night. We all got into this horrible fight in the common room, she was screeching, he was yelling, and I was trying… but I could hear his heart rate rising, and his body trembling… then other things started to tremble. I ran to hug him and try to calm him down, but she thought… I don’t know what she thought. She just grabbed me off of him and slapped me. The sound of the slap echoed through the room then just changed and turned into a roar as everything exploded… then I was looking up at the night sky. I guess I got thrown through the wall, with the wall. I was… very hurt, but together… and when I looked back, I saw him huddled over… holding an arm… just an arm… and shaking… then I passed out.”

Divina took Yoko into a hug, Enid looked horrified, Wednesday reserved and thinking. Yoko continued. “I guess after that staff started showing up and he didn’t go quietly. But eventually they stopped him, and he was taken to that horrible fucking sanatorium. I visited him once after, but I don’t know who I saw… he was gone by then.”

“That’s so fucking horrible Yoko, I’m sorry.” Enid took one of the vampire’s hands.

Wednesday let the two take a moment of comfort. “And now he broke free. Do you think he is looking for you?”

“I don’t know. Probably not. He long lost whatever part of him that knew me…”

Hours later Divina walked through the woods around Nevermore, heading to lake Crackstone, though outcasts tended to call it lake Nevermore. She had just been with Yoko making sure she was okay, but needed time alone to think. She always found peace near water. Yoko told her about Calum yesterday, but now that it was brought up again the siren found herself starting to get overwhelmed with worry. The first love of her love had broken out of a jail that was not very far from the school. A jail he was at for murdering his mom and severely injuring Yoko. And no one knew where he was. She held the siren amulet around her neck, searching for reassurance. The thought of Yoko possibly getting hurt again filled her with dread… Finally, the trail reached the water and Divina sat along the lakeshore, surrounded by reeds, looking out at the island that held Crackstone’s crypt, the moon reflecting off the darkness of the lake.

“Siren, what are you doing out here all alone?” Said a man in a dark blue overcoat.
