Work Text:

It's getting late, but in spite of any healthy reasoning, Weiss Schnee is up studying.

In their pitch black room.

To reiterate, this is a room with no light. Light which is needed for the process of visual learning for the human eye. These thoughts ran through Blake's head shortly after waking up to pencil on paper at... She squinted her eyes, pulling her scroll under her covers to discretely check. 2am. Her eyes, still squinted, looked back to the Schnee and then what she was writing. The words were in that same scrawl as the notes she'd been taking in class earlier in the day. Each was in perfect alignment with the lined paper.

It'd be mildly impressive if it wasn't costing Blake sleep. Alas, it was, and it'd likely cost her patience too when she'd have to hear the sleep-deprived heiress fighting Ruby in the morning. So with a quiet sigh, she called out. "Are you going to sleep?"

The heiress startled, her pencil dragging a jagged line through neat lines. She turned to face her teammate, that haughty look of outrage you didn't need to be able to see in the dark to guess she was wearing.

'You didn't really need to know the situation either, you'd be right 80% of the time if you guessed it anyways'

She tuned out whatever the heiress responded with as her eyes caught another odd detail, or rather, the detail caught her eyes. Glacial blue eyes stared into her own, and followed when she silently bobbed her head.

She tuned back in.

"-even listening?! You have the audacity to ask a question and then not listen for the answer?!" She whisper-yelled.

"I skipped waiting for you to actually get to it." Blake said in full monotone.

That got a small, frustrated 'hmph' followed by an equally small stomp as she stood up from her chair.

"Fine. I was near finished anyways." She said. She began to pack her bag, and with it a 3rd detail popped up.

The stomp had knocked over her bag, scattering a number of papers to the floor. Each was picked up with no fumbling at all, the movements clear and purposeful and noticeably lacking any light to accompany them. Blake looked around, but there was still no light to be found in room. Not on the desk, not on the floor, not through the curtain, and not even from a scroll. Lost as she was, she didn't notice the shock marring her face as she stared at the heiress.

Weiss, however, did. Her face froze for a moment, but it schooled itself and she continued to gather her papers before snapping them into one of her binders. She put away the supplies still on the desk, zipped them into appropriate storage, and finally turned to her bed. She made it back it with no stumbling and Blake's eyes still glued to her.

She calmly made her arranged her covers before sitting straight and once again returning to Blake's stock still face.

She took a deep breath in. Out.

"No one will believe you."

And shuffled under the covers to bed, turning away.

Blake was still, the words processed at a snail's pace. They finally reached her a few minutes later, but Weiss had already managed to fall to sleep judging by her soft breathing. With nothing else she could do, she silently crept back under her covers, jaw still hanging with eyes wide. She stared above. Thoughts of her own were still mute, leaving just stark silence in the room.

And then snoring rang out above her.

Blake grimaced.

Notes:

Sorry for the poor title. First time posting, so there may be some errors in formatting or the like. Thanks for reading regardless. Inspired by a faunus Weiss fic I read that had Weiss in this situation, but having to try to cover for herself. Sorry I can't remember the title, thanks to the person who wrote it. If anyone knows it, I'd be glad to add credit.
