Work Text:
Ena knew that Mafuyu Asahina was a vampire. In fact, everyone in Nightcord knew Mafuyu was a vampire. Not because of any sort of sleuthing, but because she straight up said that she was a vampire when the four of them were cleaning up their apartment the other day. Like, straight up, unprompted, no sort of preamble, no sort of context, Mafuyu said “I’m a vampire.” and then continued to wipe down the kitchen counters like it was the most normal thing in the world.
Well, there was a little context, actually. The four of them had lived together for a while (around…god, a year? It was after they graduated, but before they all confessed to each other, so maybe a year). In that time, they all began to take notice of some…odd things that Mafuyu did. Like how she immediately curled up next to a Nightcord member after being out directly in the sun, citing “being tired” every single time. Or how whenever the four went for yakiniku, Mafuyu would always cook her meat so much rarer than theirs.
But the thing was, Ena was the one who found out first. Or at least, she was the one to ask about it first, on a day where Mafuyu had neglected her hunger and asked to drink from her. Maybe that was why Mafuyu drank from Ena the most often, or maybe there was no good reason and Mafuyu saw fit to bother her for blood more than anyone else. Mafuyu could never just be like “can I take some of your blood” either, she had to stare Ena’s wrist or jugular down like a dog looking at food in somebody’s hand.
“...”
“...”
Kind of like what she was doing right now. While Ena was trying to focus on her drawing.
“Can it wait?” Ena didn’t take her eyes off her drawing—and she didn’t need to, because she could feel Mafuyu’s eyes boring into her body. “I’m busy right now.”
Mafuyu was silent. And still staring.
“Goddamnit.” Ena sighed and turned in her chair to glare at Mafuyu. “Look, I know Kanade’s kinda busy, but can you not go to Mizuki for some blood, at least? She’s just as willing to give you some, and more importantly, she’s not trying to draw right now. ”
Mafuyu blinked.
“...ugh. Fine.” Ena turned back around to focus on her drawing, holding her left arm out to Mafuyu. “But let me try to focus, at least.”
And Ena truly did try , but it was a little bit tricky. Especially when she could feel Mafuyu close in and press her lips to Ena’s wrist. God, she couldn’t just find her pulse normally, could she? Ena tried her best not to complain, though, because—
It suddenly felt like Mafuyu lips weren’t just searching for a pulse. Ena looked down and noticed that Mafuyu was kissing her; she was somehow halfway up Ena’s arm, and she was still going .
“The hell?!” Ena’s face blushed a furious red. “Hold on! What are you doing?!”
“I needed to increase your blood flow,” Mafuyu said—she speaks, but at what cost?—“so that I can get to your blood easier. This was the best way I could go about it.”
“Whatdoyou MEAN?! ” Ena jerked her arm backwards with no sort of change in demeanor, Mafuyu simply being tugged along with her.
“I’ll hurt you if I bite you while you’re this tense. Please relax.”
“You can’t just tell me to relax!”
Mafuyu’s hold on her wrist suddenly became stronger, strong enough to make Ena stop in her tracks. Urgh, and that wasn't even vampire strength, Mafuyu could just do that, her and her grip strength…!
Again, Mafuyu stared at her, somehow harder than she had been before. “If you don’t want me to bite you, I can find Mizuki instead.”
Ena scowled. She was still blushing. “I didn't say that. Ugh, damn you and your crazy strong grip…” She breathed in, then out, shut her eyes, and turned her chair so that she was properly facing Mafuyu, letting the tension in her shoulders relax. “Do whatever you want.”
She felt Mafuyu loosen her grip. Wherever she has been on Ena’s arm—around the elbow, maybe?—Mafuyu started from there, then kissed back down to Ena’s wrist. Ena tried to seem as nonchalant as possible, even as her eyes were screwed shut.
There was a gasp, then a hiss-like sound, then—
Ena flinched slightly as fangs pressed into, then pierced her skin. Mafuyu said some time before that the pain from the initial bite went away soon after the fangs broke skin, but if you asked Ena, that first bite never got easier. But it didn't really matter now, because a comfortable numbness had settled into Ena’s wrist before she could complain about it.
Mafuyu always had this look when she was feeding. Or so Mizuki and Kanade said; Ena had never seen it because she always had her eyes shut when Mafuyu was feeding from her, not really keen on seeing her own blood being sucked and spattered around (except Mafuyu was actually very clean with her feedings so it was fine).
This time around, Ena decided to hazard a peek. Mafuyu’s eyes were focused hard on Ena’s wrist, probably making sure she didn’t take more blood than she needed. But other than that…
Mafuyu’s eyes suddenly shifted upwards, staring straight at Ena. Ohhh…Oh, Ena got what Kanade and Mizuki meant now. Mafuyu’s eyes seemed brighter, like they were a step away from glowing in the dark. And there was a sharp redness in them, a shade of red that, from Ena’s perspective, felt hungry.
Combine that with the blood that was lining her mouth, dripping from her fangs, running down her cheek despite how careful she was trying to be…If Ena didn’t trust Mafuyu as much as she did, she’d probably be scared.
It was over faster than Ena realized, and Mafuyu started to lick up any remaining blood, sealing the bite mark she made as well.
“...Mafuyu.”
Her eyes locked with Ena’s (they looked a little more normal now…). “Hm?”
“Sorry for getting all tense.” Ena turned her chair back—though it’d probably be hard for her to keep working at her drawing right now… “I'm fine now.”
Mafuyu nodded. “That’s good. But I still suggest you take a rest; I tried not to take much, but you might still feel woozy.”
As Mafuyu said that, a slight dizziness came over Ena. “Urgh…you know what, sure.” She got up from her chair and started moving to her bed. “I'll just take a nap or something.”
…She could feel Mafuyu staring as she climbed into bed, and she rolled her eyes. “Yes, Mafuyu, you can come into bed with me.”
Neither Ena nor Mafuyu said anything else as the bed shifted and Mafuyu pressed close to her body. And honestly? Neither Ena nor Mafuyu really had to say anything.
Ena eventually fell asleep, wondering what blood tasted like to a vampire.
