Work Text:
“Come on Jack, we can both fit on the door!” Rose shouted persistently as she was gasping for air.
Jack reluctantly agreed and heaved his weak body onto the door. They were both so cold, as they were shivering. But happy that they had each other. Jack looked deep into Rose’s eyes and said;
“Rose, if we make it out alive, I want to marry you.”
Rose smiled at Jack.
“I would love to marry you.” Rose said weakly.
They kept on chatting with each other so they could take their mind off from the fact that they might die. Minutes pass, then hours pass, and finally a boat comes. Jack, as the gentle man he is, went into the freezing cold water and grabbed the whistle. He began blowing on the whistle hard, but he was so weak that every time he went to blow to make a noise, barely any breath would come out. Luckily, the boat came and saved them. They heard their whistle, they answered their silent cry for help. The men on the boat gently lifted their cold bodies out of the door that they were on and placed them in the boat. The man gave both Rose and Jack a blanket to try and keep warm.
“Jack, I am so c-cold.”
Rose says as she turns over to Jack shivering. Jack looks at her and tells her it’ll all be okay as he puts his arms around her in a tight bear hug to try and share any remaining warmth he had.
“I will never let you go my darling. I l-love you.”
Jack says as he shivers. The boat finally arrives back in America, and things are starting to look up. Or so the couple thought. Jack and Rose got off the boat and headed into a local coffee shop to warm up. At this point the realization was starting to kick in. That all of their money, and prized possessions were gone.
“Jack, I don’t mean to interrupt the moment. But how are we going to find the money to get married and start a family of our own?” Says Rose looking up hopefully at Jack as if he may have an answer to solve all of their problems.
“I’m not sure Rose, but whatever happens as long as I’m with you I know everything will be ok.” Jack says looking at Rose as he leans in to kiss her. Rose leans in and kisses Jack. They have a magical spark that just shines when they are together. There was an awkward silence for a moment until Jack came up with an idea to fulfill their marriage.
“First we need to find some money.”
He then spotted a help wanted sign in the coffee shop.
“This is perfect Rose! I can work here, and then save up some money for marriage and then afford to buy a house at some point!”
Jack says as he happily jumps up and down.
“Things will look up for us Dawsons!”
Jack says as he gives Rose a warm embrace. He grabs an application form and fills it out. Hours pass and he hears back that he got the job! The next day comes and Jack starts work. Eager and excited to marry Rose.
“Hello my name is Jack, and I am here to start working as a coffee barista.” Jacks explains as he shakes the boss’s hand.
“Glad to have you Jack! My name is Jake, and let’s start your training.”
Jake warmly replies. As Jake started training Jack, Jack started to get the hang of being a barista really fast. So, Jake put him up to the test to make his first order.
“Are you ready?”
Says the boss.
“As ready as I’ll ever be.”
Says Jack as he laughs.
“Hello, may I please get a cappuccino?”
Asks the customer.
“Of course, that’ll be $2.50 please.”
Says the boss.
The customer pays the boss.
Jack makes the cappuccino very carefully as he pours the coffee beans into the machine. Jack then places a cup underneath the machine as it makes the cappuccino. Jack then gives the freshly brewed cappuccino to the customer.
The customer happily drank the cappuccino, and left.
“Jack, it’s not busy and you did really well today so you can leave early.”
The boss says.
“Thank you! Is there any chance I could get my paycheck in advance? I really want to marry my fiance, and I just need some money to do it. Officially.”
Replies Jack.
“Of course, I would be happy to help out a splendid couple.”
Jake hands Jack $100.
“You are the best, thank you!”
Jack happily exclaims.
As Rose awaits outside of the coffee shop for Jack to arrive back to her, she paces back and forth and suddenly she runs into her mom.
“Hi Rose, I’ve missed you.”
Says Ruth.
“Hello mother, I would like to inform you that Jack and I are getting married whether you like it or not. I love him”
Says Rose confidently.
The mother looks shocked and stays silent for a few minutes. Searching for what to say after Rose just dropped the news on her. She begins to speak;
“Well, he is not my first choice for someone I want you to marry, but if he makes you this happy. I want you to marry him.”
She says with tears in her eyes as she hugs Rose.
“Thank you mother!”
Rose says delightfully as she hugs her back. As they are hugging Jack comes out of the coffee shop. He grins and looks at Rose and immediately she knew, he got the money.
They then had a little wedding, they had to pay for a cake and a minister. The cake was an elegant red velvet, Jack and Rose’s favorite. Topped with white icing and words that spelled out ‘I will love you always and forever.’ Everything was set up perfectly, and although they didn’t have much after the boat sinking, they had each other and that was all that mattered.
“I now pronounce you, husband and wife! You may kiss the bride.”
Exclaims the minister happily.
The couple kisses and Rose leans into Jack and whispers;
“I will love you my beautiful husband, always and forever.”
