Chapter Text
You have decided to add ‘Kim Yooyeon’ to the suspect list.
Suspect list: 2 slots available
“Whew, we finally have one on our suspect list.” You spun around in your office chair.
“Sir/Ma’am, it’s time for the axe…”
Investigation: The murder weapon
The examiners had sent you a report after hours of examining the axe.
There’s no DNAs found on the weapon, all at, besides the deceased. You looked at the pilling sticker on the handle of the axe.
“This sticker…we can find out where is it bought from…” You tried to look for any letters on the sticker remaining that could tell but none was found.
“Yellow and red…OH I KNOW, IT’S FROM A HARDWARE SHOP NEARBY THE CRIME SCENE.” Your assistant snapped his finger and the two of you grabbed your coats and rush outside to the hardware store.
You and your assistant hopped down from the car and walked into the store. You showed a picture of the axe to an old worker on the counter.
“Excuse me, we are detectives, can you confirm if this axe is bought from your store?” You especially zoomed into the sticker.
“O-Ohh…yes, why?” The worker looks a bit weirded out by the large surface of blood stains on it.
“The weapon seemed relatively new, must be recently bought.” Your assistant whispered into your ear and you nodded as a respond.
“Is there any young woman or any teenage girls that had recently visit here and bought an axe?” You asked but the worker doesn’t seem to remember until a young man had approached you guys.
“Young woman? There is one recently…I only remembered her cause it’s a bit odd for us to have any female customers…” The young man spoke. “Detectives, right?” He pointed at your lanyard.
“Yes, can you describe how she looks like?” You pulled out your notepad to write the descriptions down.
“She’s tall for a woman, she looks like she’s around her early 20’s? Or maybe younger and she doesn’t look Korean.” You and your assistant exchanged glances.
“Does she speak fluent Korean, or does she mix with English while speaking?” The options are narrowed down to two members, Xinyu or Lynn.
“I don’t know, I never spoke to her…” The young man held his head with one hand and hissed, trying to think of something, “however, I did hear her mumbling…ummm…I really don’t know…”
“Maybe we can check the cctvs.”
“Right, follow me.”
You followed the young man to the security room and checked the cameras. Luckily, the young man had remembered the exact date.
“Yes, this lady right here, she’s at the axe aisle too.” The man pointed and you zoomed it in. You can only see the figure’s back and you slowed down the speed of the video and zoomed into every frame until you can finally pinpoint the member.
Lynn.
There the Japanese was, holding an axe and heading towards the check out counters.
You got a copy of the clip by saving it into a pen drive and drove back to the station. However, before that, you gotta catch the Japanese first.
You knocked on the front door of the dorm and the door opened up to Seoyeon blinking her eyes in confusion.
“Detective-nim…what’s wrong?” Seoyeon opened the door a bit wider and the members inside all collectively stared at you and your assistant.
“Is Miss Kawakami Lynn at home?” You placed your hands on your hips and asked.
“Lynn?” The girl turned around and scanned around but there was no Lynn.
“What do you want her for, Sir/Ma’am?”
“Just a little interrogation, we found out the owner of the weapon.” Seoyeon couldn’t contain her shock expression.
“L-LYNN?!” She asked in disbelief but instead of saying anything, you just shoot her a tight smile. As you were just about to leave, hoping to find the Japanese nearby, a member raised her hand.
“I KNOW WHERE SHE IS,” It was Shion. “She’s in her room…” You took off your shoes and walked upstairs to her room and knocked on the door twice.
“Miss Kawakami, please come out.” The door flew opened instantly with Lynn blurred by your presence.
“W-What is the matter?” Her eyes widen and quickly put her hands up.
“We need you to cooperate with us, let’s talk more about it back in the station.”
“I believe this is the second time we meet here?” You tried to joke a bit however you can also notice the shakiness of Lynn’s hand. “Calm down…we are just going to question you.”
“Two days before the murder, you were caught by the security cameras buying an axe from a hardware store nearby the dorm, is it true?” You glared at her.
“I have no words.” The Japanese crossed her arm and turned her head a bit to the side.
“Really? Then let’s watch this video first then…while you find your words back.” You played the footage on your laptop and showed it to her.
Her eyes and lips started trembling.
“Can you see it clearly?” You moved your fingers towards the touchpad. “Or do you want me to zoom it in.”
“Okay, I’ll admit it,” she looked back at you with red eyes, “THE PERSON IN THE FOOTAGE IS ME, I BOUGHT THE AXE.” Red started taking over her pale face.
“CHILL DOWN.” You banged the table.
“But I am not the one that killed her…” she grinned, “THAT BITCH STOLE MY AXE.” Japanese started slipping out from her mouth, leaving you and your assistant confused.
“Please repeat it but in Korean.”
“Listen up, Kim fucking Yooyeon, THAT BITCH STOLE MY WEAPON.”
“Do you have any proof that Miss Yooyeon is the killer instead of you?”
“Good question…I don’t…”
“Why did you even buy an axe that day?”
“Why should I tell you?” The Japanese scoffed.
“Miss Kawakami please cooperate.” Your assistant said strictly.
“Not to murder someone obviously…” She brought her hands up to play with her bottom lips, avoiding eye contacts again.
“Please tell us the exact reason.”
“FINE, I WANT TO CHOP SOME TREES, CAN I?”
As all the questions are asked, you decided to end the interrogation.
Now is the time to make a choice.
Remember, always be careful, smart and observant before placing your vote.
Would you like to add Kawakami Lynn into your suspect list?
Yes
or
No
“The handle of the axe is quite long…looking at the height of the members and the victim, even the shortest can possibly attack the head.” Your shook your head at your assistant’s words.
“No…to assert more force, holding the handle to it’s tail is not possible, the murderer has to be someone around the victim’s height.” You pulled out a measuring tape from your drawer.
“The victim, 167 cm, the murder has to be at least 165 cm and above.” You called the forensic to confirm your theory, and it turns out true.
“Yes, the murderer has to be 165 cm and above.”
Current hints about the murderer gathered:
- 165 cm and above
- someone close to the victim
After the call, your office phone rang.
You picked it up.
“Good evening, Gangnam station here.”
“Is this Detective [Insert first name here]?”
“May I know who this is?”
The other line went silent for a moment.
“Hello?”
“Oh yea…I am Y-Yeonji, about the arguments that day…ummm…” Her voice was clearly shaking and you can hear another person in the room trying to comfort her.
“Did you hear anything?”
“Yea since my room is on the ground floor, I was awoken by the yelling that morning…I can’t recall whose voice is that aside from N-Nakyoung unnie’s but ummm…”
“Okay, don’t be nervous, we promise everything is going to be fine.”
“I can hear the words ‘love’, ‘reject’ and ‘die’ clearly, but just not who is saying those.”
“Anything else?” This could be a big hint.
“No…and sorry I have to put the phone down now, bye Sir/Ma’am.”
Just like that, the phone call ended. Before you write down anything Yeonji had told you, your assistant had stopped you.
“Sir/Ma’am, during the phone call, did you hear any second voice?” You were confused by the question asked by your assistant but you just answered the truth.
“Yea…kinda, why?”
“Does it sound like Kim Soomin by any chance?”
“I don’t know, the voice is in the background.”
“I’ve done a few investigations on the duo and I can tell you right now, there are NOT as trustable as you think.” You let out a few laughs.
“That would mean prank calling the police station, do you think they would be that stupid?”
“Teenagers with a curious and naughty nature? Why wouldn’t they give it a shot?”
Decide whether you should believe Yeonji (writing down false hints could lead to confusions later)
Yes
