The Phantom Thieves lost. Akira, standing against the puppet master who claimed to be a god, was ‘rewarded’ for his involvement in the game.

Instead, he finds himself lost in the woods for days. Not another human in sight. On death’s door, he stumbles across a camp on a strange machine. Begging for help, he finds himself in the company of an odd band of people, in a stranger world, on a quest.
Akira pledges himself to the cause and, with nothing left for him, he leaves behind the mantle of leader and bears down the path of the king with the people who offered a helping hand at his lowest point. Will, on the other hand, vows to help Akira find his home again. Their motto was to help those in need, and Akira was no different in his eyes. At least at first.
