More Than A Party

Summary:

"Hi." A sweet voice chirped from beside her. Yujin would like to think she hesitated in recognising who it was, but who was she kidding. Jang Wonyoung always stood out, many could agree to that statement. "First party?"

"no, actually." Yujin corrected with a small smile growing.

or

Yujin and Chaewon think they're going to a calm hang out, but end up going to a party instead. Chaewon goes off to enjoy the party, while Yujin ends up talking to a bunch of people. Yujin and Wonyoung hit it off, despite only taking in class and it takes them to Wonyoung's balcony. What do they talk about?

Notes:

English is my first language, so any and all spelling/grammar mistakes are entirely my fault. I didn't read this back yet and I don't think I ever will, so sorry about that. Also I wrote this in like 30mins in between studying for my chemistry exam, so it is gonna be a bit rushed. I definitely want to revisit this one shot and make a second part, because I love their dynamic in this.

Anyways, that's enough from me, enjoy reading!!

Work Text:

Chaewon skipped ahead of Yujin, a wide, but nervous smile on her face. It was her first time going to someone's house, who wasn't Yujin. Her parents weren't strict per se, it was rather her own conscience that held her back. She's heard the stories of what happened to kids at other hang outs, and she just couldn't risk it. However, when someone she's admired for a while, Yunjin, invited her to a "thing", she couldn't say no.

Yujin, on the other hand, seemed quite indifferent. She was quite social for someone so introverted. As well, she's hung out with Wonyoung multiple times. To clarify, she was friends with goody-to-shoes Park Wonyoung, not popular, pretty girl Jang Wonyoung. There was no correlation between the two, except their names, and Yujin couldn't emphasise that enough. However, she had never been to Park Wonyoung's house before, she was just as naive to this situation as Chaewon was.

"So, is this the address Yunjin sent you?" Yujin asked, as her skepticism grew by the step. The house was a lot bigger than she expected. She could've sworn Wonyoung told her it was only 1 story a while back, but she guesses her memory is just acting up again. As well, the front lawn seemed trampled on, like there was a stampede that came through. There was a faint sickly smell that lingered around the premises.

"I am certain, look." Chaewon affirmed, as she pushed a phone into her taller friend's face. Yujin just hummed in acknowledgement, using her left hand to pull Chaewon's arm down. She lead them to the porch.

"Ready for a night full of board games and nachos?" Yujin happily questioned as she turned the doorknob and pushed the door open. Chaewon just squealed in excitement, the many keychains on her little bag jingling with her. Yujin walked in, and noted how dark it was. She felt a low thump through the souls of her shoes and felt like there were more people in the house than she originally thought.

"Where is everybody?" Chaewon pondered as she walked further into the house. She dropped her bag on the first couch she saw, which coincidentally had Yunjin's unmistakeable handbag. Chaewon took this as an indication that they were at the right house.

"I hear music outback, let's go." Yujin mumbled as she took the lead. Despite the back door and all of the windows being blacked out, they could see the flashing lights through the gaps. Chaewon's heart dropped, this couldn't be real.

"Is this an actual party?" Yujin started to say when suddenly a guy cam crashing through the tarp, obviously intoxicated. The pair pulled back the tarp and not even a second after looking outside, they knew they misunderstood. Yunjin did say party, so it was Chaewon's fault for naively believing she meant movie marathon, baking, pillow fight kind of party.

Yujin sighed, like physically sighed, "Oh shoot... this is live-wire Wonyoung's house." She muttered as she stepped out of the house and onto the deck. Chaewon followed, obviously confused, and low-key in denial.

"I got the wrong address..." She hesitated as she held Yujin's arm. Suddenly it all clicked. They were never supposed to go to Park Wonyoung's place. They just assumed Yunjin was talking out that Won, because why would she ask Chaewon out to Jang Wonyoung's place. The two were like fish out of water. They had been to one party collectively, and that was just because Yujin knew a friend of a friend. Even then, she only stayed for half an hour.

Suddenly a woman appeared behind them with a lustful look in her eye, "Hey there baby, come dance with me." She cooed to the taller of the two. She slid her hand from Yujin's shoulder to her free hand. Yujin was being dragged down the stairs and onto what seemed to be a dance floor.

"Chaewon- Don't leave me to this woman! CHAEWON!" Yujin yelled out, her tone implied how scared and confused she was.

Chaewon slowly backed away from the whole party trying to fine where she entered from."I can just leave quietly to Mormon Wonyoung, and no one will notice-"

"HEY CHAEWON! I DIDNT KNOW YOU WERE COMING! HAVE A DRINK." Giselle boomed out from a bar looking situation. She was waving like a mad woman from her spot, and garnered the attention of a few. In that moment Chaewon kind of regretted helping her in math class, as this wasn't the first time Giselle dragged her into something.

"Shoot."

"Yujin, right?" The girl that kidnapped her asked, "You really are pretty up close." She started swaying with the music, and instinctively, Yujin joined her.

"thanks... I guess?" Yujin snorted, she wanted to laugh but felt it may be rude. She watched as the girl's eyes crinkled as she gave her a small smile.

"For someone so fine, you really don't know how to flaunt it." The girl chuckled as she placed a kind hand on Yujin's waist. The taller of the two blinked, and she her eyes opened, the girl started walking away. That was a very strange interaction but it put something into perspective for her. She wasn't as unknown as she thought she was.

"Time to go." Yujin sighed with finality, but of course, the party god's wanted her to stay a little longer.

"An Yujin, never in our 4 years of high school together, would I think I'd see you at this type of function." A different girl quipped. Yujin didn't know she could twist her neck so fast, but this day was just full of surprises.

"Well Yuqi, people change." Yujin huffed as she crossed her arms. Her and Yuqi had a kind of rivalry that was barely that. They joked and argued, but it didn't mean anything. Yuqi once said that she'd party harder to balance out Yujin's righteousness, but now that Yujin was at a party, she didn't have to anymore.

"Clearly not enough... here drink this." Yuqi insisted, as she waved a red cup full some mysterious liquid in Yujin's face. She stole it from a passing guy, not even hiding that fact. She did, however, wipe the rim, as if that would convince Yujin of anything.

"you just stole that from some guy, I am not taking swig out that." Yujin refused as she slowly, and very carefully, tried to push away the cup that was nearing her lips. Yuqi, however, did not stop.

"Here comes the airplane- oops." She cooed as she started swaying the cup in an airplane-like motion. With one big motion, she tried to push the cup to Yujin's lips, causing most of it to spill out. "I am so sorry!" She screeched as she went off to presumably find a towel or tissue.

"I should've left when I had the chance." Yujin whined as she pulled the wet fabric from her body. One minute turned into five, and that's when she realised that Yuqi wasn't coming back. So, she took matters into her own hands. She was nowhere near a towel or a serviette, so she decided to just take off her sweater. She had something under it, it was just a bit revealing for her normal tastes. It also happened to be her last clean shirt, but she didn't think she'd have to take off her sweatshirt for any reason.

"Here." She seethed as she placed her soaked shirt in the hands of some random guy, she was sure she already disliked. She stomped away, not before catching a glimpse of the guy wringing the alcohol from her sweater into his friend's mouth. She convinced herself that it affected her, but in reality she did not care for the piece of clothing. It was old and faded, and she only kept it because it was gift from her crush (spoiler alert: she did not like him anymore).

It was about time she tried to find her friend, Chaewon. However all hope of leaving depleted when she saw how preoccupied the blonde was. She seemed so interested in what Minju was saying, she couldn't interrupt that. She knew the two had a history, it was a kind of an off and on situation.

So, Yujin did a 180 and walked to the DJ stand. She wore a big, almost mischievous, smile as she made her way closer and closer.

"You look so stupid." Yujin hollered, as she was sure that the DJ wouldn't have hear her otherwise. Liz squinted her eyes at the girl, and she looked like she took offence.

"YOU LOOK... great actually, you look great." Liz piped. She gave a double thumbs up, as if her screaming didn't make it obvious that she liked her outfit. Yujin just shook her head in amusement before returning the gesture. "Got any suggestions? I don't accept Beethoven."

"I don't actually listen to classical music, you know that right?" Yujin said through a short laugh, but her gaze was questioning. She found that her hips swayed with the rhythm, she knew this song.

"I thought that's what all nerds listen to." Liz jested as she continued with her DJ business. Yujin rolled her eyes before walking a more secluded section of the party. This was much different to what her first party was like. This was actually somewhat controlled, and she could see herself really enjoying the experience, after a few drinks of course. She could nearly name everyone, but she could be one hundred percent certain that everyone went to her school. The house was clean too.

She felt the presence of a nearing person, and apart of her was already feeling tired. She didn't really want to talk to another person. She'd endure it, of course, but that didn't mean she would like it.

"Hi." A sweet voice chirped from beside her. Yujin would like to think she hesitated in recognising who it was, but who was she kidding. Jang Wonyoung always stood out, many could agree to that statement. "First party?"

"no, actually." Yujin corrected with a small smile growing. This would be the first conversation, that wasn't about school, that she ever had with Wonyoung. She turned to her right, only to find Wonyoung already looking at her with a patient expression. Apart of her thinks Wonyoung is completely sober, but she's seen the posts (Wonyoung never looks bad, even after 6 drinks).

"Oh really? Didn't think you were the type to party." Wonyoung joked as she bumped Yujin's hips with her own. Her stature was minuscule compared to Yujin's, and the juxtaposition was made even more apparent when you realised they were the same height. They complimented each other well.

"It was just one before this, at Keeho's place. I left after thirty minutes." Yujin said to an overly present Wonyoung. She must've noticed the way Yujin swayed and was eyeing around, that she wanted to sit down. She softly grabbed Yujin's hand and started leading her through the party. Yujin noted that it was the second time that night that someone dragged her via hand.

"Yeah, Keeho's parties get pretty crazy, even for me." Wonyoung agreed as she successfully manoeuvred through the crowded dance floor. When the two pushed through the tarp and stepped inside, Wonyoung stopped. "How'd you know about this party? not that I specifically didn't want you to come, it's just I didn't expect you here."

"Yunjin invited me and Chaewon to hang out. We thought it was to Park Wonyoung's place, but I guess it was yours." Yujin explained, but half way through she realised it may have made Wonyoung feel bad that they didn't come to her party because they wanted to. However, Wonyoung nodded her head understandingly. They were conversing so well for people who exclusively talk in class. Yujin knew Wonyoung was comfortable with her, and she was too.

"You thought, Huh Yunjin was inviting you to Park Wonyoung's house? I don't think I've ever seen them speak." She wondered aloud as she started walking again. Yujin promptly followed her, like a puppy following its owner. Or more accurately, a moth to a flame. She barely knew Wonyoung, but it was like second instinct to follow her and trust her.

"Yeah, now that I think back, we were kinda stupid." Yujin sighed, but she could feel a laugh bubbling in her throat.

Wonyoung stopped. Like she was paused through a remote. She turned around, almost robotically and had a look of offence written all over her face. Yujin felt ice cold, what did she do? Did she blow her one and only shot with Wonyoung? "You're not stupid." Wonyoung refuted, her voice had an obvious tone of disbelief. Yujin nodded slowly, and Wonyoung took that as her agreeing.

After a short walk up the stairs and through a hallway, they made it to a room. Yujin assumed it was Wonyoung's, as it was very pink and had hints of Wonyoung every where. She didn't look to much, as Yujin felt like she invading in a way.

"What's the occasion, by the way?" Yujin asked quietly as she watched Wonyoung struggle with the door handle to the balcony. After a few seconds of silence between them, Wonyoung got the door open and skipped out.

"It's my cat's birthday." Wonyoung chirped excitedly. Yujin found her cheekbones started to hurt, from all the smiling she was doing. Yujin leaned on the railing, taking in the fresh, cool air that wasn't present down in the backyard. She could still hear the music, still feel the thump of the beat, but somehow it was infinitely more quiet.

"well, tell Cherry that I said happy birthday." Yujin hummed as she turned on her side, so she could face Wonyoung while still leaning on the metal rail.

"You know my cat's name?" Wonyoung questioned, seemingly surprised by Yujin's knowledge. Yujin just laughed, and Wonyoung believed it was the first time she ever heard that sweet sound. She was about to say some dumb joke, just to hear it again.

"You let it slip once, I think we were talking about little siblings and pets." Yujin explained herself.

"You remembered what I said?"

"I guess I did."

The two stood in silence. They weren't talking, and they didn't have to. It was somehow comfortable, the lack of noise, peaceful even. Wonyoung just smiled, it was weak, but in a dreamy way. She liked how Yujin looked back at her, with a careful look. She doesn't remember the last time she wanted someone to look at her as much as she did at that moment. It was intoxicating, even more so that the alcohol that was sat in her stomach.

"I like your shirt." Wonyoung complimented, not sure she could handle their little staring competition any longer. Yujin suddenly looked down, seeming to only then be hyperaware of what she was wearing. She scratched her arm subconsciously, as if she was nervous or embarrassed.

"No one was supposed to see it. I was wearing a sweater but Yuqi spilt a drink on it." Yujin recalled the events quite vividly. She remembered her sweater, and looked into the crowd below for it. She saw the red fabric being thrown around, like it was a flag that everyone wanted to touch. She imagined how much it reeked of alcohol and scowled.

Wonyoung watched her side profile, aware of every little difference in her expressions. She was beautiful. There was no doubt about it. Maybe she wasn't the only one who noticed. But she was hoping she was the first one to do something about it.

"We don't talk or hang out much... I think we should do it more often." Wonyoung hinted as she stepped back from the railing. Yujin looked away from the view and back at Wonyoung, who was arguably more of a stunning visual. For a moment, Yujin let the cogs in her brain churn as she thought of a possible meaning to Wonyoung's words.

"Is this you asking me to hang out, Jang Wonyoung?" She teased, stepping closer with a wide grin on her face.

"No, Yujin. This is me asking you out, without the hanging." Wonyoung quickly corrected, before she too, shimmied towards the girl. She pulled Yujin back into the room, not missing how the apples of her cheeks flush. But as quickly as they blush, the pink hue is gone, as the darkness of her room hides any colour.

"I would hope so." Yujin joked, referring to the hanging part.

"You're such a dork." Wonyoung chuckled, before walking out of the room. She noted that she should joke with Yujin more often, she hasn't been this amused in a while. "See you at school?"

Before Wonyoung can walk into the hall, down the stairs and back to the party, Yujin called out her name. Wonyoung immediately stopped and offered a small smile, signalling Yujin to continue.

"What about the movies, tomorrow, at 6pm?" Yujin suggested as she walked toward a surprised Wonyoung. The girl physically shook her head, as is to brake her out of a trance, and lunged forward. Her arms wrap around Yujin's waist and tighten by the second. It take Yujin patting her on the back to get Wonyoung to stop squeezing her so tight. Was she in a dream? She wouldn't be so mad if she saw more of Yujin in her dreams.

"Yeah, I think that'd be cool."
