Work Text:

At the end they avoid talking about it.

Instead they focus on buying baby items.

Bathing tub? Check. Baby shampoo? Check.

Damian? Unchecked.

Talia sighs and runs her hands through her hair. Throwing away the baby plush. How can she enjoy this without the guilt tearing her up?

She abandoned Damian.

Twice.

And she pulled Bruce to her darkness.

Or more like he chose it.

They don't talk about it.

But they both know they want a remake.

It'd be much easier if they didn't love Damian.

I... I chose Grayson Mother... Father... I have always tried to please you. But I can't anymore.

Talia remembers the tears on his eyes. God he looked so tiny at that moment. Her tears that accumulate sting her eyes. She makes no attempt to wipe them away. He will be fine right? He is much better off with his older brother. He said so himself.

I'll be fine... I'll be ok.

She doesn't act surprised when she feels Bruce's arms around her. Squeezing her.

And he's not comforting her alright? No, no, no, Bruce is trying to comfort himself.

Because they both know what they did.

What they're doing.

They're rotten to their core.

"I'm too selfish," she says with a broken voice that waves on each syllable.

Bruce grips her tighter, painfully. He is shaking. He grits his teeth. After everything he did, he chose to leave his children behind.

He became like his parents.

God that makes Bruce choke but can't stop the sob that comes out of him. It's ugly. It's rotten. He doesn't deserve to cry. He doesn't deserve to feel sorry for himself. To pity himself.

At least his parents never choose to abandon him even if they still left Bruce.

He lets Talia steady herself by gripping his hair painfully.

He's abandoning his children.

He's abandoning Gotham.

He's abandoning Alfred.

Selfishly.

Unmorally.

While playing happy family with Talia.

He can't stand it.

He can't- he can't- He can't- he can't- he can't-

"Let's erase our memories."

And that's that.

They choose the easy way out.
