Chapter Text
When Peter wakes up, his whole body aches. He groaned as he sat up. It was bright outside. “Fuck,” Peter muttered to himself. He checked his phone. Only to find he was still on a call with Deadpool…. Well, Wade, as Peter had found out yesterday. “You up?” He asked, lowering his voice. When there was no response he hummed to himself. Finally, he looked at the time. Great. He’d missed both of the classes he had today. He flopped back onto his bed, deciding the world wouldn’t end without him for fifteen more minutes.
His text tone startled him back awake. Another came through, then another. Peter reached for his phone, opening it to find seven missed texts from Tony Stark sitting in his notifications. He groaned and tapped on them, the chat took a moment to load and another came through.
Stark: Hey kid, you okay?
Stark: I saw your battle
Stark: Did you remove me as your emergency contact?
Stark: I didn’t get a message when you got hurt and when I called and asked I was denied info on you.
Stark: I want to be able to make sure you’re okay.
Stark: Peter?
Stark: I will show up at your house if you don’t respond to me
Stark: And don’t you say I don’t have your address because we both know if I wanted it I could find it.
God fucking damn it. Peter started to type a rather annoyed message before deleting it, knowing Tony was just watching out for him and while he was in a wildly different world than Peter and didn’t know about Peter’s situation, all he wanted to do was the best for Peter. But in doing that Tony made him feel like a baby sometimes.
Peter: Tony, I’m okay. I was asleep. I don’t have an emergency contact right now. I got a renewal form and didn’t fill it out for this season’s tournaments. Just a minor injury, I’ll be back at training in a week or so.
Tony: I’ve rescheduled the medal ceremony for Friday. The committee was debating whether there would be a rematch, but you disconnected just after the battle ended.
Tony: What happened with your suit?
Peter: Oh just some wire came loose, my fault for dumping it on the floor a few nights ago. I should really be more careful with it.
Peter lied. He knew Tony would flip if he knew the truth. Peter would be in Stark Tower in a heartbeat, and he would be forced to sit through Tony’s lecture and the safety videos about old sensors and their faults. Peter really didn’t have the energy for that.
“Pete?” Wade’s voice came from his phone. He forgot he was still on a call with him, making him jump.
“Fucking Christ.” Peter huffed out, “Warn a guy next time.”
Wade wheezed out a laugh. Peter’s heart tightened as he did. He wanted to properly see the expression on Wade’s face when he laughed like that.
"Good morning, sunshine." Wade chuckled, "You sleep well?"
"As well as I could on this shitty ass mattress." Peter grumbled, "Tony's on my ass again. It's a little aggravating."
Peter could practically hear the eye roll from Wade's side of the call. "What is it this time? Yes I know he sounds adorable when he’s annoyed."
"He's upset that I removed him as my emergency contact. I just don't like having him as my contact. I mean, I'm twenty-four, and I really don't need some billionaire playing Dad." Peter selectively ignored the second part of that comment.
"Yeah." Wade hummed, "Who is your emergency contact?" Peter was silent. "You do have one, right?" Wade confirmed.
"No..." Peter admitted, "But granted I never thought I would ever need one. I mean I've played for years and never got hurt so why'd that change?"
"For fucks sake, please get one."
"I don't have anyone to be one for me."
There was silence. "No friend, roommate, enemy, family member, someone who you set as one years ago and haven't been bothered to change it even though they hate you?"
"Nope." Peter popped the 'p' for emphasis.
"Okay, well if you gotta you can put me but please don't get hurt again. I don't want your face reveal to be me finding you in a hospital bed."
"I didn't go to the hospital." Peter protested, "I mean I was offered to, but I really can't afford that right now, so they let me go and said to take it easy."
“Oh Jesus Christ, Pete.” There was static as Wade moved in his bed. “Please put me on there.”
Peter rolled his eyes, “Fine,” He paused, “But you have to meet me in person before I do. Can’t have a stranger on there.” Wade was silent for a minute. Peter quickly added, “If you want to meet. I mean we don’t have to-”
“Peter, shush,” Wade interrupted. “I’d love to meet you. Let’s give it a week, this seems sudden and I want you to think this through.”
“I have thought this through, for the past like four years that we’ve been friends.” Peter protested.
“So you can wait a week longer.”
“Ughhhh.” Peter groaned, rolling over in his bed.
“Stop sulking and go make coffee before you get even grumpier.”
Peter dragged himself out of bed, muttering about stupid waiting and stupid faulty wires.
An hour and a cup of coffee later Peter sat in his gaming room, a second cup of coffee going cold next to him. He was examining his now thoroughly fried sensors. “Ow,” He yelped as one let out a feeble shock to the tip of his finger. “You little bastard, I turned you off.”
“What you doing there, Pete?” Wade asked. Peter’s name already sounding so comfortable and familiar on Wade’s tongue.
“Nothing.” Peter answered a little too fast.
“Peter,” Wade’s voice became sturn, “Put the sensors down, you are not putting those back on. Ever.”
“Wade I don’t have the money to not put them on. I earn my money with them through battles and right now that income is gone. Nada. Poof.”
“I will pay you to not put them back on.”
“Again, I don’t want your pity money.”
“Fine, then let me hire you for something.”
“Like what?” Peter dropped the sensor with a small cuss as it shocked him again.
“I don’t know just stop touching the wires of death. No, yeah. I know he’s an idiot.”
“If I can solder them back together and wrap them in more electrical tape, they should be fine.” Peter observed, poking at the wire with a pencil. “I just gotta figure out where the power is coming from because I turned off the main power source but there seems to be a secondary one that is still on and that one is the problem.”
“Peter [whatever your last name is] put the fucking wires down. You are not repairing them.”
“But-”
“No.” Wade’s tone was harsh. “Give me your address, I’m sending you a suit. No buts or pleas, though your ass is always welcome, it will be at your door this evening.”
“And if I don’t give you my address?”
“Peter, do you know what I do for a living?”
“You wouldn’t be able to find me, I have no personal info on the internet.”
There was a brief silence, “So your name isn’t Peter Benjamin Parker?”
“How did you get that?” Peter’s voice raised an octave in shock.
“It’s my job to hunt down people off the internet, I have my means and I really don’t want to have to use them on you.”
“You just got my middle and last name off of what? Just a first name?” Peter asked, his voice thick with worry, “How did you? And so fast? Who else?”
“Take a breath, Pete.” Wade soothed, “I have a lot more to go off of than just a name, I know your general age, you gave me your phone number and you have the 929 area code so you got this phone after 2011 and you got it in New York City, you said that your birthday was in August, I know you wear glasses cause I can hear you take them off when you put the headset on. That and you’re at college and doing an internship somewhere that you won’t tell me so that narrows down a lot.”
“You know all that about me?” Peter muttered.
“Yeah, I mean I’ve known you for four years.”
“Oh-”
“What?”
Peter was quiet for a second, “I feel like I barely know anything about you, and you know all of this about me. Like the real me, not just online friend me.”
“What do you know about me? I’m sure it’s more than you think.”
“I mean-” Peter thought for a moment, “You have a cat who trips you up while online, and she watches movies with us, and you have the same area code as me so you must live near me. You probably have blue eyes because you can see much better than me in the dark and you always complain about bright rooms. You always seem to be wearing sweatpants and I think thats because of nerve damage that would make skin sensitive.”
“See, you know a lot about me.”
Peter grumbled under his breath.
“Your suit will arrive tomorrow morning.” Wade announced.
“Wade!!”
“You were taking too long sulking about nothing so I just found your bank details and put the shipping address you put in your last Amazon order for…. Ew Everyday Cryptography - Fundamental Principles and Applica-, is this a textbook?”
“Yeah- It was a fuckin expensive one too.”
“Well in just under a day you’ll never have to look at those shitty sensors and I’ll truly get to know the shape of that ass.”
“Wade! You got the one with the body mirroring?!”
“Well yea, only the best for my Spidey. You can turn it off if you want but I kinda wanna know if you’re as twinkinsh as you seem.”
“Wade!!”
