Work Text:
Your boyfriend Wonwoo is many things attractive, intelligent, charming, kind, passionate, funny, and cute, but being spontaneous is not his thing. Wonwoo likes things to be planned and executed for maximum efficiency, but what do you expect from a scientist, an astronomer, to be exact? Wonwoo specialized in theoretical astronomy; every calculation, observation, computational model, and analysis needed to be carefully curated, so it was no surprise that these traits transferred into his own life.
You have come to accept his lack of spontaneity during the four years you have shared. To be honest, that's one of the things that made your relationship work so well, and it’s a perfect counterpart to your "go with the flow" personality. You were a river at the mercy of gravity as it shaped and controlled the stream's flow, sometimes slow and other times raging with an unforgiving force. Wonwoo was an estuary, calming, collecting the river's flow and all its ferocity, steadying its stream before allowing it to plunge into the ocean.
But you wouldn’t have Wonwoo any other way because he is deliberate with every decision. It gives you a sense of comfort. Quelling any insecurity you have ever felt in previous relationships. In the back of your mind, you always know that when Wonwoo speaks, he speaks with certainty and confidence. Since the day he asked you out, you never doubted your status in his life because he made it known. That is the same energy he carried through the relationship, like when he asked you to be his girlfriend months after that first date. Then, a year and a half after becoming official, asking you to move in with him.
Of course, since the day you moved in with him, the two of you have been bombarded by questions from family and friends, wondering what’s next. Wonwoo made it abundantly clear that he loves you, and you would be lying if you said you didn’t feel the same. So why rush? When that moment comes, you know it will be as special as the day he asked you to be his girlfriend. For a man of few words, romance and carrying out a plan were his specialty.
So when he randomly took time off of work during the busiest point of the year to go on an impromptu trip with you to an undisclosed destination, you were surprised. But you were up for the adventure, as you are for all of Wonwoo’s adventures because you have the perks of being a successful self-publishing novelist, which allows you the freedom to go wherever you want whenever you want.
As you lay in bed, you feel the light kisses of your lover on your bare back as you are brought back to the land of the living after a long night rolling around in the sheets, as you indulge in every drop of passion Wonwoo had to offer you, followed by pillow talk with winding conversations jumping from topic to topic before greedily giving in to your desires once more.
You slowly open your eyes as they adjust to the dimly lit room. It’s no surprise you find your handsome lover dressed in the shirt you bought him a month ago that he swears is his favorite (the funny thing is every time you buy him something, he says it’s his favorite) as he is kneeling next to the bed, his head resting on his arms. You take in his appearance; his beautiful dark features only add to the mystery that is Jeon Wonwoo. He smiles at you before leaning in, peppering your face with kisses as you giggle, which only makes him kiss you more.
“Babe, stop.” You say between your laughter. “I didn’t even brush my teeth yet.”
“Well, you would have had plenty of time to do that if you didn’t sleep through the alarm.” He says in a teasing tone, raising an eyebrow.
“Hmmm...” You tease him back. “Who’s fault is that?” you raise an eyebrow back at him.
“I have no idea.” He coyly responds.
You chuckle, roll your eyes, glimpse the clock on the wall, and quickly sit up. “Wonwoo, it's 4:30 in the morning!” He leaned his head back, laughing. “I thought this was supposed to be a vacation. Why are you walking me up at 4:30 in the morning? We don’t even wake up that early for work!”
He continues to laugh as you glare at him when he composes himself, handing you one of his shirts that you love to sleep in that sat at the corner of the bed to cover your top half, as you completely forgot you were still very much naked. You immediately begin to blush, and he kisses you at the top of the head before sitting next to you.
“Early bird gets the warm.” He says, nudging you with his shoulder. “Plus, I have everything planned out, and we have to hurry before we miss our first stop stuck in traffic.”
“Urg!” you complain, and he chuckles. “But I still need to pack, and...”
“Done!”
“What?”
“Done!” he says with a confident smile. “I packed everything, and the car is loaded and ready to go.”
“But what about...”
“I dropped our beautiful cats, Heaven and Cloud, at your Mom’s already.”
You give him a skeptical look. “Did you talk to...”
“I already talked to the Seungkwan and Vernon, and they know we will be gone two weeks and promised to keep an eye out on the house.” You open your mouth and don’t get a chance to speak. “Yes, I already told Jun and Minghao to watch Seungkwan and Vernon and make sure they are, in fact, watching the house when they are back in town.”
You sigh as every attempt to find something else that needs to get done so you can just get a few more minutes of sleep fails. He grabs both sides of your face, looking loving into your eyes with your favorite smile, confident in his success at covering everything, knowing you well enough to defeat your attempts to sleep in.
“Starling,” Wonwoo gently whispers as he caresses your cheek. Your heart flutters at the nickname he gave you long ago, but it took some time to grow on you. He had the ever-so-bright idea to combine Star and Darling to create Starling. But would you expect anything less from your nerdy astronomer boyfriend? “You can sleep in the car. So please get ready now so we don’t hit traffic.”
You sigh, “Okay, but do...” he places his finger on your lip to silence you as you get a sinister glimmer in your eyes. You roll out of the bed on the other side, only wearing his oversized shirt, and slowly walk towards the bathroom. “I was going to ask if you wanted to shower with me, but seeing you already showered, we don’t have...”
You barely finish your thought before Wonwoo chanced you across the bedroom. Right as you are about to enter the bathroom, he grabs you by the waist. He quickly turns you around with a smirk before sealing his lips over yours, smoothly backing the two of you into the bathroom before kicking the door shut.
✨ ✨ ✨ ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
When you two are out of the house and on the road, it’s after 7 in the morning. You spend the first half of the drive video calling your mom to check on your two adorable furbabies. Then you called Seungkwan and Vernon and warned them not to destroy the house. You would have rather left it to Mingyu or any other friends, but they are all out of town except for Seungkwan and Vernon. But the two are also a little goofy, so you’re glad Jun and Minghao will be home from a work trip in the next three days, and they promised to stop by the house.
Once you finished answering the last of some work emails, you dropped your phone in the cup holder. You roll the window down, looking at the open road scenery, letting in the cool, fresh spring air, and the smell of blooming flowers fills the car as you turn up the radio and get comfortable. Wonwoo places his hand on your thigh, getting your attention.
Turning to look at him, you find his eyes are still on the road as he smirks, squeezing your thigh. He seems almost majestic as the sunlight hits his face at the perfect angle, his hair still wet from the not-so-quick shower the two of you had, his glasses sitting perfectly on his face, wearing yet another one of his “favorite” shirts. He grips the steering wheel with so much self-assurance as he does everything else. You interlock your fingers with his hand that rested on your thigh, and he lifts your joint hands, planting a sweet kiss. He barely takes his eye off the road because, in his words, “Your safety always comes first.”
You lean back in your chair, your hand still interlocked with his. As you take in the beautiful scenery, the cool spring morning air leaves little kisses on your skin, doing your best to try and connect to all five senses so you can cement this beautiful moment in your memory.

“Starling...” You hear Wonwoo whisper. “Wake up, love. We’re here.”
You open your eyes, slightly disoriented, unsure when you fell asleep. Yawning as you stretch, you open your eyes, looking out of the windshield, and excitement radiates through your body. Seeing the beautiful restaurant awning with the giant words “Shining Diamond: Brunch, Munch, Crunch.” The two of you stumbled upon the secluded brunch spot on the outskirts of town, driving back home from a festival.
You still remember that festival weekend like it was yesterday. You, Wonwoo, and some friends rented a beach house to attend this massive three-day festival. But after the second day of being around everyone’s hyper energy, you and Wonwoo were ready to go. You wish you were one of those who could recharge being around people, but you weren’t, and neither was Wonwoo, thank god. Usually, when you are ready to leave an event, Wonwoo is already ready to go and is waiting for you. All it took was a look at each other, and one of you would devise an excuse to leave.
On the third and last day of the festival, everyone spent almost an hour looking for Hoshi, who had let his phone die, finding him wasted and dancing near a stage completely different from where you all agreed to meet. Then you all spend another hour looking for Dino, who allegedly got lost “looking” for Hoshi, but you all found him at the food court in the middle of a meal. Then, DK’s backpack was “stolen.” To this day, you still don’t know how someone can lose a whole backpack. Luckily, someone found it and dropped it off at the lost and found.
After returning to the beach house, Wonwoo gave you that look, and you canceled your flights, opting to drive back home and make a road trip out of it. Not flying home with your friends turned out to be the best and most peaceful option because they spent about 45 minutes looking for Mingyu’s “lost” ID at the airport, causing them to miss their flight, only for him to find it in the side pocket of his carry-on bag.
Since that trip, the two of you have been to Shining Diamond several times, but it’s been a while because you and Wonwoo have been so busy with work, family, friends, and just life. It’s nice to be back.
“Oh my god!” You practically jump with joy, making Wonwoo chuckle. “We haven’t been here in forever!”
“I promise a vacation full of surprises and plan on delivering.” He leans in, giving you a passionate kiss before pulling away once he remembers that breathing is a necessary thing. “How about we go eat?” All you could do was nod, still recovering from that breathtaking kiss.
Wonwoo exits the car and walks to the passenger side to open the door. He extended his hand for you to grab as he helped you out of the car. You step out stretching, admiring the beautiful blue skies, and you feel a hand touch the small of your back.
“You ready?”
You nod eagerly, noticing how hungry you are as the smell of some of the best brunch food seduces your sense of smell, ushering you inside. Wonwoo reaches from the giant glass door when you hear his phone ring. You looked at him, and he leaned his head back with a sigh.
“It’s okay, baby.” You assure him with a smile.
“I’m sorry. Go ahead. We have a reservation. I’ll meet you inside.” He kisses you on the cheek as you nod, heading inside.
You pause momentarily, wondering how he made reservations and that you two made it on time despite the unexpected addition to your morning routine. But then again, he must have planned for that, too. You roll your eyes with a chuckle.
Wonwoo watched you walk to the hosted podium before stepping further away from the door towards the car to answer his phone.
“I told you guys not to call me, just text me,” he says through gritted teeth.
“I know,” Mingyu whines. “But it’s an emergency.”
Wonwoo lets out a deep sigh. “What happened?”
“Okay, don’t be mad,” Mingyu says in a shaking voice. “So, you know how you wanted that specific hotel close to the observatory. The one that had the perfect skyline view.”
“Yes...”
“Well, umm... a funny thing.”
“He fucked up; there are no more rooms available at that hotel.” Wonwoo hears Jeonghan say, taking the phone and putting it on speaker.
“Mingyu!” Wonwoo says, pitching the bridge of his nose. “What the hell happened?”
“I’m sorry, I just... There were so many moving parts, and you wanted us to get everything perfect, but the list kept getting longer and longer, so I gave the task to Dino since he didn’t have much to do, but he forgot to confirm, so the room got reassigned.”
“You what?!” Wonwoo feels anger building in his body.
“You didn’t stop to think why Dino didn’t have much to do?” Joshua chimes in.
Wonwoo begins to pace, running his hands through his hair. “I need you guys to help me out with all of this. I was so busy at work trying to get ahead and take this specific time off. I couldn’t focus on planning anything. Everything has to go according to plan, or it won’t work. I won’t get another chance like this for several years, and I don’t want to wait any longer.”
“Look, everyone is doing their best,” S.Coups says sternly. “This is a huge deal that involves a lot of planning that you had sprung on everyone with little time to prepare.”
“Everything will go according to plan.” Woozi chimed in. “We all know how much this means to you.”
“Yeah, we won’t let you down.” S.Coups adds.
“Okay,” Wonwoo says, then takes a deep breath. “This is all so stressful, and I just wanted everything to go according to plan. She deserved this and so much more.”
“We know. We all care about her, too; we want both of you to enjoy this special moment,” Hoshi said genuinely.
“We’ll try to find another hotel with that view, but at the very least, it will be as close to the observatory as possible and send you the details,” Mingyu says confidently.
“Okay, please hurry. There’ll be limited rooms because everyone is driving into town for the meteor shower.” Wonwoo pleads.
“We will.” S.Coups confirms, calming Wonwoo’s nerves.
“Alright,” He sighs. “Dino, I know you can hear me. I’m not mad at you... I’m mad at Mingyu.” Mingyu gasps loudly as the room erupts into laughter. “Bye!”
Wonwoo quickly hangs up before taking a deep breath, and he is about to head towards the restaurant doors when he sees you sitting in a booth by the window. He takes in your beauty and is shocked that you still have this effect on him after all these years.
He watches you scrunch your nose as you look through the menu, so focused as if you will not order the same thing as you always do. But that’s just one of the many quirky habits you have that he finds adorable. He wishes he could give you the sun, the moon, and all the stars, but he fears it still won’t be enough because you deserve that and so much more. Every day, he vows to try his best to show you how much you mean to him.
As if you can sense him looking at you, you lift your head and look around, confused. When you finally look out the window, you see him watching you. You give one of your many smiles that he can’t get enough of, waving him in.
He chuckles, “How did I get so lucky?” and smiles at you.
You sense Wonwoo walking up behind you as you sit in the booth, looking through the menu; everything looks so good. But you might just go with your favorite because it has never done you wrong. When Wonwoo reaches you, he kisses you on the cheek before sitting in the booth across from you.
“Are you alright?” You ask concerned.
“Yeah,” he sighs. “Just some work stuff.
“Everything, okay?”
“Yeah, now it is.”
He reaches across the table, laying his hand open for you to place yours in his. When you do, he feels butterflies in his stomach. Then the waitress showed up, and he watched you order the same thing you always do with a smile, feeling like the luckiest man alive.
✨ ✨ ✨ ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
The sun had just set when the two of you made it to the hotel; searching for parking was difficult because the place was packed. You would be lying if you said you weren’t exhausted and couldn’t imagine how tired Wonwoo must feel, especially since he wouldn’t let you drive. But he also seems anxious ever since he took that work call.
When Wonwoo finally finds a spot, he walks around the car and opens your door, offering his hand; as you grab it, you notice he seems warm and slightly stressed. You join him, walking to the back of the car, helping with the bags, and thinking of a way to lighten the mood.
“I hope you packed me actual clothes this time, unlike our trip to Cabo?” You ask with a raised eyebrow, feeling accomplished, noticing his shoulder relax as he laughs.
“If I remember correctly, we packed each other’s clothes, and I didn’t have much outside of muscle shirts and swim trunks.”
“Still more clothes than the skimpy outfits you packed for me.”
He laughs before wrapping his arm around your waist and pulling you in, “It was not that bad,” he whispers, leaning in and kissing you on the neck. “Plus, it’s not like you needed clothes anyway since most of the time they were off.”
“Wonwoo!” You laugh as you teasingly hit the hand he had wrapped around you, and he joins you in laughing, too. He gives you one kiss on the cheek and neck before releasing you.
“Alright, alright. Let’s get checked in,” Wonwoo says with a smile.
You nod with a smile, extending your hand out to him. He quickly closed the trunk before grabbing your hand, leaving you to carry the lighter of the three bags, and the two of you walked towards the hotel hand in hand. The moment quickly dissipates as he opens the door, and you two almost bump into the couple in front of you who are in line to check-in. The two people in front of you turn around, noticing the two of you standing in the open doorway.
“Oh, I’m sorry.” The men say he taps the men standing next to him. “Honey, move over a bit so they aren’t standing in the doorway.”
“Of course.” He moves over with a smile.
“What’s going on with the line?” you asked, peeking around them to see the zigzag of disgruntled people standing in line with bags.
“The system crashed, so they are doing things manually at the moment.” The first man says with a sigh.
“Yeah, you would figure they would have prepared themselves. They knew everyone would be in town for the...” the other man starts to say.
“Game!” Wonwoo quickly interrupts. The two men exchange a confused look before looking back at Wonwoo. “The college football game is happening nearby. Right?” He looks at them pleadingly before gesturing at you and shaking his head.
“Yeah,” the men continued with a smile. “The college game.”
You lock eyes with Wonwoo, and he smiles at you, and then the couple gives you the same suspicious smile. You look around them at the people in line, notice a few jerseys, and shrug your shoulder.
“Well, hopefully, the system comes back on soon.” You smile. Wonwoo sighed, and the men nodded and smiled before turning back around.
Wonwoo kisses you on the cheek before wrapping his arm around you, praying he doesn’t run into any more surprises.
✨ ✨ ✨ ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
By the time you and Wonwoo check in to the hotel, it’s almost 10 pm, and you can tell Wonwoo is seething after arguing with the hotel staff. They price gouged him, charging four times the standard room cost because he booked it at the last minute, which surprised you, considering Wonwoo is always super organized and plans things months in advance.
“Babe, it’s okay.” You say, rubbing his back and reassuring him. “Don’t let this ruin the trip.”
“I know I just.” He sighs, “I really wanted things to be perfect.”
“And everything is perfect.” You smile at him as he gestures for you to exit the elevator. “I have you, and you have me, and fuck the hotel owner because we don’t blame lower-level employees for doing their job.”
He laughs, kissing you on the cheek as the two of you approach the door. “Thanks, Starling.”
“Just being honest, love.”
You use the keycard to open the door, walk in, flip the light switch, and stop in your tracks with a gasp. Wonwoo walks in after you and drops the bags he is carrying.
“Fuck...” He whispers.
“This is umm... interesting.” You say, slowly walking in further; shocked would be an understatement. You look around the room, unsure what to focus on.
The room looks like something out of a horrible motel room in a romantic comedy movie. The heart-shaped bed has a matching red velvet duvet covering up red silk sheets, and the same color pillows sit at the top in front of the heart-shaped headboard. Different-sized heart-shaped pink and white decorative pillows match the pink wallpaper with white crown molding, trim, and baseboards. The nightstands are just as red with gold accents to match the lamps on top of them, curtains covering the windows, and the red and gold tapestry above the headboard.
You walk closer to the bed, noticing the white shag rug under your feet, looking over at the unconventional-shaped ottoman at the end of the bed that has a box resting on it. You quickly glance into the open pink and white stripe box before sitting on the bed, taking notice of the large quantity of lube, condoms, the red blindfold, and fuzzy handcuffs. You look at Wonwoo, still standing in the doorway, and your heart sinks. He wears a mixture of emotions: embarrassed, disappointed, frustrated, stressed.
“At least it’s clean in here,” You say, trying to make light of the situation, “and it's not a waterbed... it’s pretty comfy for the most part.”
But he says nothing, avoiding your gaze as he grabs the heart-shaped bucket on the dresser, which matches the nightstands.
“I’m gonna go get ice.” He says, quickly turning around.
“Wonwoo, baby...” You say, standing up, but he interrupts you.
“I’ll be back.”
“Okay.” You sigh, sitting back down as he leaves the room.
You wanted to go after him, but you learned over the years that letting him be for a bit is best when he gets hit with a plethora of emotions all at once. He always comes back after sorting through them to discuss where his head is, which you always appreciate. You feel so bad for him because this is so unlike him. He is the planner and takes pride in things going according to plan. Grabbing your bag, you head towards the bathroom, closing your eyes as you open and flip the light switch.
“No more heart shape shit, please.” You whisper. “Wonwoo might actually crash out.”
You open your eyes, shocked to see a modern-style bathroom with a massive jet tub, shower with a bench inside next to it, double sinks with good lighting, and a separate room for the toilet. Of course, the colors in the main room made their way into the bathroom, with light pink tile everywhere and white crown molding, trim, baseboards, and red furniture. But it’s not nearly as bad as it could have been, so that’s a start.
Inspecting the cleanliness and wiping a few things off, you place your bag down, undress, and hope in the shower, hoping to wash the day away and that Wonwoo won’t let this get him too down.
Wonwoo paced the room at the end of the hallway with the ice machine, vending machines, and a few chairs. His heart races, and his hands sweat; he feels awful this isn’t how he wanted things to go. Even though you didn’t seem upset, this is far from what he wants you to remember when you reflect on this trip. He wanted you to feel special, loved, and appreciated, but instead, the two of you are staying in a room that looks like the set of an 80s porno.
Since the day he decided to make it official with you, he knows that the two of you would be in it for the long haul. You are everything he could have ever dreamed of and then some. He had never dated anyone this long or this seriously, so everyone was surprised when he asked you to move in with him.
Of course, everyone wanted to know when he would pop the big questions, but he loved that you never rushed him. He loved that when people cross your boundaries and ask, “What are the two of you waiting for?” or “When’s the big day?” You would simply smile and answer classily, “What’s the rush?” Which always made people feel embarrassed and got them to stop asking altogether. Wonwoo knows you deserve nothing less than the best, and that’s why everything needs to be perfect.
He was planning on waiting until the fall around your anniversary, but something shifted in him when the two of you went to that Coldplay concert a month ago. The second they went on sale, the two of you got general admission and made a weekend out of it. He smiles to himself, recalling the memory.
🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵
They played song after song in the massive outdoor arena, and he loved watching how happy you were bouncing around, singing along to every song, and cheering. He found it adorable. Then the sun began to set, replaced by the bright moon, and the sky was littered with stars. Ironically (or perhaps unironic but intentionally), Coldplay started playing “A Sky Full of Stars.”
When Wonwoo looked over at you, jumping around with the crowd during the first verse, his heart skipped a beat, and everything was moving around him in slow motion. The moonlight mixed with the lights emanating from the stage, making your eyes sparkle as it kisses your skin perfectly, accenting your beauty. He felt like he was in the presence of an angel.
Cause you’re a sky, cause you’re a sky full of stars
I’m gonna give you my heart
Cause you’re a sky, Cause you’re a sky full of star
Cause you light up the path
As the song continued, all Wonwoo could do was stand frozen, watching you mesmerized. The lyrics narrated what he could never put into words, perfectly describing how he felt towards you at that moment. By the time the song reached the bridge, without a doubt in his mind, he knew that you were his forever. He wants to start that forever sooner rather than later.
Cause you’re a sky, cause you’re a sky full of stars
Such a heavenly view
You’re such a heavenly view
As the song came to its decrescendo, he grabbed your arm, turning you towards him. Both of you were shocked as Wonwoo was shy about public displays of affection. But your face quickly softened as he smiled, taking your breath away. He caressed your face and pulled you, kissing you deeply, desperately trying to express how much you mean to him. You wrapped your arms around his shoulder as he pulled you in closer.
As the song ends, Wonwoo continues kissing you passionately, unaffected by the crowd cheering around you. He didn’t care who saw because he loved you and wanted the world to know he had one of these stars in the sky. He is the luckiest man alive to enjoy such a heavenly view.
🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵
Wonwoo sighs deeply, leaning back in his chair as he pulls out his phone.
“Okay, before you get bad,” Mingyu began. “That was the last room in town close to the observatory, and...”
“I’m not going to do it anymore.” Wonwoo sighs.
“What?!” His group of friends say in unison, as he hears more voices expressing their concerns and pleading to reconsider.
“Aaahhhh, Mingyu.” S.Coups sighs.
“I told Dino to get the room!” Mingyu defends himself.
“Again, if he was supposed to book the room, don’t you think Wonwoo himself would have told him to book the room?” Joshua reiterates.
“Wonwoo, you have to ask her,” DK says, a bit upset. “You were so happy to ask and make it official. What about the meteor shower?”
“You can still ask her Wonwoo.” Dino chimes in with a guilty tone.
“Yeah, this is just part of it.” Woozi chimes in. “Everyone is excited and ready to meet you two at the Observatory with everything packed and ready to go.”
“Seungkwan and Vernon already have everything situated, and her family and friends are ready to go,” Hoshi adds.
“Jun and Minghao stopped by your house and got the rest of your things.” Joshua sighs.
“Despite the hick up with the room,” S.Coups huffs. “Everything is coordinated with the other vendors, event center, and the observatory. We will have everything ready by tomorrow night.”
“What is on your mind, Wonwoo?” Jeonghan asked. “Why the sudden change in heart? It can’t just be about the room.” The background chatter is silent as everyone listens intently.
“I worked so hard just to get caught up with work so that I could take the whole month off, and because I have been working so much, we haven’t even had much time to spend with each other. This was supposed to be time for us to reconnect.” Wonwoo takes a deep breath and sighs loudly. “I had everything planned perfectly, and it all fell apart. Even the reservations for the 3-star Michelin restaurant fell through.”
“Aahhhh, Mingyu.” S.Coups sighs.
“That wasn’t me!” He answers in a panic.
“It wasn’t him.” Wonwoo quickly defends him. “I got an email saying they’re having plumbing issues, so they had to shut the whole place down.”
“I’m sorry, Wonwoo.” Dino sighs.
“It’s okay. Maybe everything going on is a sign because she will say no.”
Everyone started speaking up simultaneously, trying to reassure Wonwoo that he was insane for even thinking that when someone spoke louder than the others.
“If she were going to leave you, she would have done that when she moved in and say your Buldak Ramen supply and gaming room.” Minghao comments. “I know I would have, especially after the ants.”
“Sorry the others called me,” Joshua says sheepishly.
“Look, I know you had everything planned out, and it sucks that things didn’t go as planned.” Vernon comments. “All that was just the small details, not the main event. The main event is what matters most.”
“Exactly.” Minghao comments. “All that will matter is how you two feel about each other. The memory of the small details will fade over time, but the way you make her feel in that moment will last with her forever.”
“She is going to say yes; that is one thing you don’t have to worry about.” Jun comments.
“Stop stressing and sulking over things that don’t matter and go spend time with her!” Seungkwan jumps in.
Everyone agrees, encouraging Wonwoo and attempting to boost his spirits and give him confidence. His friend's words touch his heart and bring him joy. He also notices how much his friends love and care about him and his Starling.
✨ ✨ ✨ ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
As you sit on the bed cross-legged in your favorite pajamas that Wonwoo packed for you, flipping through channels and trying to distract your mind, You frantically reach for your phone every time you get a notification, hoping it is Wonwoo. He has been gone for a while, and the longer he went without answering your text, the more concerned you became.
Just then, the door opened, your back straightened, and you leaned forward and saw Wonwoo walking in with a bag of your favorite snacks. He gives you a sheepish grin as he walks toward you, sits on the ottoman, and places the snacks down. He looks over at the open pink and white stripe box, and his eyes widen.
“Damn,” he says shocked.
“Yeah, I know.” You chuckle, and he joins you.
The two of you sit in awkward silence as he still avoids making eye contact, and then you place your hand on Wonwoo’s cheek, guiding him to look at you.
“Is that for me?” You ask with a smile.
“I think we're supposed to use that together, but I’m open to suggestions.” He says with a cheeky smile.
“Not the stuff in the box!” You both laugh as you playfully hit him. “The bag you brought with you.”
“Yeah,” he says between laughs. “These are yours.” handing you the bag.
“Thanks.” You smile back, opening one of the snacks and offering him some, which he takes with a smile.
There is a comfortable silence this time as you and Wonwoo share snacks. The TV stayed on, creating background noise.
“Starling,” Wonwoo says in a heavy tone. “I’m so sorry, and I shouldn’t have stormed out like that. I just hated how everything got off course so quickly. I know we haven’t had much time to spend with each other, and I had so much planned, but I just wanted everything to be...”
“Perfect.” You finish with a sigh, and he nods. “Wonwoo, I understand how accuracy and efficiency are part of your job and how I understand how your job can spill into your personal life.”
“Like when you get into your smut writing mood and..” he says, teasing.
“Hey!” You playfully hit him again, and he laughs.
He grabs your hand, kisses it, and holds it tightly. “Okay, I’ll be good.”
“Better,” You say, rolling your eyes. “Baby, I’m not with you because you're perfect. I’m with you because of who you are.”
“I know that, but sometimes I get wrapped up in my head. I just want to be a man of my word who can give you everything you ever want and need, a dependable man who keeps you safe.” He sighs. “I want to prove that I can be the man you deserve because you deserve nothing less than the best. I want to give that to you.”
“Wonwoo, you already have.” You caress his cheeks, giving him a bright smile. “You’re all of that and some.”
“I love you, Starling.”
“I love you too, baby.”
You pull him in closer for a kiss, and as the kiss deepens, he crawls onto the bed on top of you. The two of you roll on the remote, causing the lights to turn off and color-changing lights to switch on around the perimeter of the ceiling. Wonwoo pulls away, and you look around the room and laugh.
“This room is something.” He says, placing his forehead on yours.
“Yeah, it is.” you chuckle.
He leans in, kissing you again, picking up right where he left off; he makes his way down to your neck, reaching over you. When you open your eyes, he is holding a row of condoms from the box with a sinister smile.
“Wanna see how many of these we can get through?” he says with a cheeky tone.
You start to laugh, “Funny...” His eyes get darker, and you tilt your head to the side. “Are you serious? Don’t we have plans tomorrow?”
“Nothing until late afternoon...”
“Okay, well, we should get some rest because...” Before you could finish your thought, Wonwoo pulled you further down the heart-shaped bed closer to him, making you laugh.
“Relax,” he says with a smile. “I have the perfect plan.” He whispers before kissing you passionately.
✨ ✨ ✨ ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
You and Wonwoo spent most of the morning in bed, enjoying each other's company and creating new memories. To your surprise, Wonwoo really didn’t have a strict itinerary to stick to. You love seeing him embrace a “go with the flow” type of energy, and it was nice seeing him a bit more relaxed. You just wish his job respected him having time off; they were calling so much that you wanted to tell him to put his phone on silent. But he kept reassuring you that it was just for today and you would have his undivided attention for the rest of the trip.
Wonwoo told you about the restaurant he wanted to take you to, too, but the plans fell through. He had already booked a spa day for both of you, and you were getting your hair and nails done before going to the restaurant in the evening. You hated seeing him upset and told him the two of you could still go to the spa, get dressed up, and find something to do in the evening, which made him smile.
The two of you first grabbed a bite to eat at a restaurant Wonwoo found that sold your favorite cuisine. Then you and Wonwoo spent the rest of the day at the spa, and you loved how your hair turned out. Sadly, it didn’t stay done long because as soon as you walked through the door of the hotel room, Wonwoo was all over you, but at least your nails stayed cute.
You wake up in the evening feeling the effects of being contorted in ways you had no idea you could be bent into, but you also have a feeling of bliss radiating throughout your body. Rolling over in bed, hoping for Wonwoo to cuddle with you, you find his side of the bed cold and empty. Quickly opening your eyes, you jump, forgetting where you were and the unique hotel room decor.
When you find Wonwoo’s shirt on the edge of the bed, you put it on and go to the bathroom. You thought he might be in the shower and getting ready to get dressed for your new evening plans, which he hasn’t disclosed to you yet. But he wasn’t; you walk back into the main room, checking your phone with no text messages. You tried calling him, but his phone went straight to voicemail.
After showering and putting on something casual, you go to the lobby, hoping to find Wonwoo, slightly irritated because it's packed. But when you get through the crowd, he isn’t there either. You sighed, texted him, and decided to get something warm to drink. After waiting an absurd amount of time, you grab your cup from the barista, turning around and sighing as you have to get through the crowd again. You quickly turn the corner to return to the elevator when you run into the couple you and Wonwoo talked to while standing in line last night.
“San, Wooyoung, I’m so sorry.” You quickly check your cup, worried it might have spilled on them.
“It’s okay; we’re fine,” San says, concerned. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I hope none of it got on you.” Wooyoung comments, worried.
“No, I’m okay. I’m fine. I should have paid attention; I was distracted.” You sigh, feeling slightly embarrassed having to ask them about your boyfriend's whereabouts. “Hey, umm... have you guys seen Wonwoo?”
San and Wooyoung exchange a nervous look before speaking simultaneously but with different answers. Wooyoung said, “No.” but San said, “Yes.”
“Wait, what?” you asked, confused.
Wooyoung looks at San, irritated and rolling his eyes. “I didn’t see him, but San apparently has.”
“Oh, well, where did you see him?” You asked, and you immediately noticed San started to rock on his heels and fidget.
“Oh well, umm...” San says, clearing his throat. “I didn’t really see your fianc... I mean your boyfriend, your Wonwoo,” San nervously laughs.
“What?” You asked, irritated. “You just said you saw him.”
“I think what San was trying to say,” Wooyoung says quickly. “He must have seen him in passing, like the end of a hallway or in the parking lot or something.”
You give them a blank stare as they nervously smile at you. “Okay... but where?”
San and Wooyoung began to ramble again, irritating you further, but you started to tune them out. Getting distracted by two people walking in the distance past the intersection of the hallway you are standing in. Getting a good look at them in the crowd is hard, but you can recognize Mingyu and Woozi anywhere.
“What the fuck?” You say out loud, walking past San and Wooyoung.
“Okay, umm bye.” San says.
“Just... just be quiet.” Wooyoung sighs. “How hard is it to say “No, we didn’t see him?”
You ignore them, doing your best to navigate through the crowded hallway, and right as you turn the corner, you run into Wonwoo. He quickly blocks your view as you try to look around him.
“Baby, what are you looking for?” he asked quickly.
“I was looking for you, but...” you pitch the bridge of your nose. “I just saw Mingyu and Woozi.”
“What?” He says in a high-pitched tone. “That’s crazy; what would they be doing all the way out here?”
“I don’t know...” you try to look around him again, but he again blocks your view.
“Maybe it was just some guy and his kid. You Woozi is kind of short, and Mingyu sometimes dresses like someone’s uncle.” He chuckled nervously.
You stare flabbergasted. “Wonwoo, I know what I saw...”
“Look, how about we just get ready to go out?” he smiles nervously.
“Where were you? Why was your phone off?” you ask, crossing your arms.
“I forgot to charge it,” Wonwoo said, stepping closer, but you stepped back.
“Okay, but where were you? Why have you been anxious and acting weird all day?”
“Can we talk about this, not in the crowded hallway?”
You look around, noticing a few people watching the two of you as they pass by. Taking a deep breath, you turn around and head for the elevator, not waiting for Wonwoo. When you two step into the elevator, an older couple wearing matching shirts walks in right after, smiling at the two of you.
“What floor?” Wonwoo asks as he goes to put his hand on the small of your back, but you lean forward.
“The 16th floor, please.” The man smiles.
Great, and you two are on the 18th; the last thing you wanted to do is stand in an elevator with “Agatha” and “Michael.” You’re assuming that’s their name as that’s what’s written on their shirts. Wonwoo smiles back, hitting the button and shutting the elevator doors. He tries to place his hand on the small of your back again but is unsuccessful.
“Oh, I love your nails.” Agatha smiles.
“Thank you.” You say, turning around and smiling at the women.
You pause for a moment, getting a good look at her, and she looks familiar. Then, you notice the wedding ring on her finger and feel like you’ve seen it before but can’t remember where. Just as you turn back around, the elevator lights begin to flicker and then come to a complete stop between the 15th and 16th floors with a jerk startling the four of you. Wonwoo lets out a deep sigh, and you groan, not wanting to be stuck in a confined space with him. Of course, you two have an audience, so you don’t feel comfortable discussing anything with him right now.
“Don’t worry. I’m sure the staff will get us out of here in no time.” Michael Smiles. His optimism makes you want to projectile vomit. “Do you mind if I...” he pointed to the emergency phone.
You and Wonwoo shift out of the way, trading places with the couple so they are close to the elevator buttons and emergency phone. You sigh, sitting on the floor, as Michael talks to the staff on the phone, alerting them about what happened. You look at Wonwoo, seated in the corner by the door, looking highly stressed and defeated, with his head down.
“Okay, alight. Yes, I understand. Well, keep us posted, please.” Michael sighs, putting the phone down. “There saying 45 minutes.”
“An hour?!” Wonwoo says in panic.
“Yup, they said it’s something mechanical because there wasn’t a power outage.” Michael takes a deep breath and offers his hand to help Agatha sit on the floor before he joins her. He extends his arm to pull her in, resting it on her shoulder. Again, her wedding ring catches your eye.
Everyone sits in an awkward silence, waiting for freedom. The only dialog comes from Michael and the elevator maintenance specialists outside the doors. Now and again, you look over at Wonwoo, unsure what to make of the emotional rollercoaster he seems to be on. You get pulled away from looking at Wonwoo when Agatha yawns, allowing you to get a better look at her ring, finally remembering why it seems so familiar.
“Miss. Blake?” You ask, mustering up all the courage in your body.
Agatha chuckles. “Was it the ring?”
“Yeah, you described it perfectly in your book.” You smiled.
“See, I told you people would recognize it if you got a wedding ring just like the one from my book.” Agatha laughs, nudging Michael, who laughs with her. “So much for writing under a pen name.”
You catch Wonwoo looking at you, confused. “She’s the author of the “Network Love” book series I like. The one about that woman who falls in love with her best friend but is worried she doesn’t like her back.” He nods, giving them a quick smile before returning to his emotional rollercoaster.
“How long have you two been together?” Agatha inquired. She caught you off guard because you and Wonwoo have not come close to acting like a couple since stepping into the elevator.
“Four years. It’ll be five in October.” Wonwoo answers in a somber tone.
“Oh wow, that’s a long time.” Michael smiles. “Definitely something to celebrate.”
“How about you guys?” You asked, sitting up and wondering with excitement.
“Technically, we've been together for 20 years, but we've been married for six months.” Agatha chuckles.
“Six months?” You ask out loud, covering your mouth as it comes out ruder than intended. “Oh, I’m so sorry.”
“No worries, we get that all the time.“ Michael chimes in. “I like seeing the confusion on people’s faces.” He laughs, nudging Agatha.
“Oh, of course, you find it funny.” She teases him playfully, rolling her eyes. “It’s your fault.”
“Definitely both our faults.” He responds confidently.
“Fine, fine, you're right.” She laughs.
“What happened?” Wonwoo asked.
“Honestly, life. We met during our first year of college, and we were like two ships in the night.” Michael chuckled nervously. “You get lost in the ebb and flow of life, forgetting to make time for the significant things that actually matter. When you remember them, you try to create these little pockets of “perfect” memories to reflect on instead of just being and feeling in the moment and letting the memories make themselves.”
“So that you know the “perfect moment” doesn’t exist.” Agatha laughs. “Five proposals, and he finally got one right.”
“Funny,” Michael laughs. “So we’re not going to talk about yours that got infiltrated by bees?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She huffs, and all four of you laugh.
“Back to the point I was trying to make. You could plan everything down to the seconds, and things could still go wrong. I’m sure. A young couple like yourself has so much fun and adventure planned.” Michael smiles.
You and Wonwoo look at each other, and you feel an ache in your heart; based on his expression, you can tell he is feeling the same. He quickly looks away, and you do the same.
“I’m sure neither of you had plans to get stuck in an elevator with an old couple like us.” Agatha chuckles. “But that’s life. Having a plan is great, but sometimes, you just have to seize the opportunities as they present themselves.”
“Yeah, it’s all about balance,” Michael adds, smiling at Agatha.
There is a moment of silence (as much as you can have with power tools going off on the other side of the door) as if everyone is in deep reflection. You start to pick up on Wonwoo’s anxious energy and scrabble to pick up the conversation so he isn’t so hyperaware of the situation you're all in.
“So, I gotta ask.” You say with a smirk, catching everyone's attention. “What was going on with the proposal that got infiltrated by bees?” Michael began to laugh, and so did Agatha.
“For that one to make sense,” Agatha says between laughter. “I have to tell you about the other five.”
“Well, I think we have some time to spare,” Wonwoo smiles, looking at you and making you blush.
✨ ✨ ✨ ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
By the time the elevator repairs were completed, Michael and Agatha had told the story of all six failed marriage proposals, ending with lucky number seven. You and Agatha exchanged contact information so she could help you review the latest novel you are working on. Wonwoo seemed to warm up to Michael rather quickly once he found out his older brother is an Astrophysics.
You and Wonwoo step onto your floor, holding hands, but there is still some distance between you. Wonwoo is still in his head, and you are not sure why. When you make it to the door to your shared room, right before you scan the keycard, Wonwoo pulls your hand away and attempts to lead you down the hallway.
“Wonwoo.” You sigh, stopping in your tracks. “Look, we both had a long day and...”
“Starling, please,” Wonwoo says in a low, serious tone that makes your back straight. “It’s important.”
You nod, allowing him to lead you down the hallway to an open area with the ice and vending machine and a few chairs. He walks to a corner of the room to a door, a lone door off to the side, and reaches into his pocket.
“Wonwoo,” you asked, concerned. “What are you doing? The door says staff only?”
“I know.” He says with a cheeky grin, swiping a key card. “I stole from the elevator repairmen.” He opens the door leading to a set of stairs.
“What is up with you?” you asked, a bit anxious.
“Who's the one that’s not spontaneous now?” he asked with a raised eyebrow and a grin. You give him a blank stare, and he sighs, getting serious again. “Do you trust me?”
“Of course I do.” You answer quickly.
He sticks his hand out with a smile, and you place yours in his with a smile. The two of you walk up a few flights of stories in silence, with just the sound of your feet hitting each step. When you make it to the last one, Wonwoo opens a door that leads to the rooftop, and you can’t help but gasp at the breathtaking view. The captivating view of the city is only enhanced by the radiance of the night sky and all its glistening starts.
“Come on.” Wonwoo pulls you towards the left corner of the rooftop, twisting your body ever so slightly. “Look over there.” He points. You look at the stars and see a few shining brighter than the others, but you can’t determine what he wants you to see.
“I...” you look at him confused, and he chuckles.
He grabs your phone from your back pocket, opens the camera, zooms into the cluster, and takes a photo. You watch him connect the dots in awe as they formulate a picture. When he’s done, he lifts the phone in your line of sight next to the constellation.
“Baby, it’s beautiful.” You smile while looking at the sky, mesmerized.
“Yeah, she is,” Wonwoo says in a daze.
You look over to see him smiling and feel your face warm up from blushing. “What umm...” you say, feeling shy. “What constellation is that?”
Wonwoo looks back, finding a group of chairs by the door to the stairwell. He brings them two over, dusting one off for you to have a seat, placing his chair at an angle so he can see you but not block your view of the sky.
“Do you know the Greek mythology story of Orion and Artemis?”
“No.” You shake your head, feeling giddy watching how excited Wonwoo gets talking about anything that he is passionate about.
Wonwoo grabs your hand, kisses it before getting comfortable in his seat, and looks back at the sky. You do the same.
“The constellation is Orion; he was a hunter.” Wonwoo points. “That’s his body, belt, and the archery bow he would use when hunting.” He looks over at you. “Do you see it?”
“Yeah, I do.” You lean closer to him, wrapping your arm around his, and he kisses the top of your head.
“Orion is this giant, the great and fearless hunter everyone admired. Artemis was this drop-dead gorgeous goddess that turned heads everywhere she went; her beauty seemed to slow down time as she passed by.” Wonwoo pauses, staring blankly at the stars as if lost in a memory.
You kiss him on the cheek, catching him off guard as he looks back at you. “So what happens next?” You smile.
He places a gentle kiss on your lips before continuing. “One day, while Orion was out hunting, he stumbles upon Artemis, and the moment they locked eyes, they were in love. As the days passed, their love for each other only strengthened, and soon they spent every waking minute together.”
“Aww, that’s so sweet.”
“But.”
You sigh, “Of course, there’s a “But.” He chuckles, kissing you on the cheek, and continues.
“The more time Artemis spent with Orion, the less time she spent with her brother, Apollo. He began to get jealous that his sister, his twin, who was also his best friend and had spent every moment with him, could no longer give him the time of day. After months of watching his sister fall deeper and deeper in love with Orion and spending less and less time with him and the family, Apollo decides that enough is enough.”
“Oh no, what did he do?” you asked, now facing Wonwoo, fully invested in the story.
“Well...” he lingers, creating suspense, and you playfully hit him, making Wonwoo laugh. “During one of the very rare occasions Artemis was not with Orion, Apollo decided to test the legendary hunter's skills. He sends a giant scorpion for Orion to battle.”
“Oh no,” you gasped, leaning in closer to Wonwoo.
“When Artemis caught wind of what her brother had done, she ran as fast as possible to get to her lover. But as the saying goes, every hero has a weakness. Unfortunately for Orion, his weakness was the Scorpio. After a long and treacherous battle, the Scorpio bit him, leading to his demise.”
“He died?!?” you ask, slightly upset.
He nods, taking a deep breath. “Even at Artemis's fastest speed, she still couldn’t make it to her lover in time to save him. The moment Artemis saw her slain lover lying on the ground, her heart was immediately filled with rage and grief. Artemis, who is the goddess of the moon, gently placed her lover's body among the stars where she could be by him always.”
You look at Wonwoo in shock, wondering if there is more to the story, but he just looks back at the sky. You shove him, and he laughs. “I can’t believe you committed theft just to bring me to a rooftop to tell me a sad story.”
He laughs again. “Was it sad, though?”
You scoff. “How was it not sad?”
“I thought so too the first time I heard it in college.” He takes a deep breath, “When Artemis placed Orion’s body amongst the stars, it served as a symbol. Love can indeed be painful and fleeting, but the beauty in true love is eternal.”
You look at Wonwoo, who has a smirk on his face, still looking up at the sky. “I mean, I guess if you put it that way.”
He chuckles, still looking at the sky, and you do the same. After a moment of silence, you notice his nervous energy as he bounces his leg. His anxiety started to build, and you were about to ask if he was okay when he spoke.
“Do you remember when we went to see Coldplay?” he asked, still not looking at you.
“Yeah, of course I do.” You smile, thinking back on that night.
“There was a moment at the show,” He clears his throat. “That changed my perspective on love, and for the first time, I understood how true love is eternal.”
Your heart begins to race, remembering that kiss he gave you that night. “When you kissed me,” you said confidently.
“Nope,” he smiles. You look at him, and he looks straight head. “Before that.”
“What happened before that?” you asked, confused.
He turns to look at you, placing his hand on your cheek. “See, that night, much like tonight, the moon was bright, and the sky full of radiant stars shined on us as we stood listening to one of our favorite bands. When A Sky Full of Stars started playing, I looked over at you and saw the most majestic view I've ever seen. The moonlight, mixed with the lights coming from the stage, made your eyes sparkle as it kissed your skin perfectly, accenting your beauty. I felt like I was in the presence of an angel.”
You look into Wonwoo’s eyes and have never seen him look at you with so much certainty and conviction. As your eyes sting with tears, he rubs your cheek with his thumb, admiring your beauty and all you are. All that you meant to him.
He grabs both of your hands, taking a deep breath. “It was like everything was moving around me in slow motion, as the sky created a spotlight that only shined on you. At that moment, I realized what love meant, what love looked like, and what true love felt like. It was like every love song I had ever heard, every romantic movie I've ever seen, and every book with lovers I ever read was all building to a crescendo at that moment as all of it started to make sense.”
As you look deep into his eyes, your heart rate rises, seeing an unfamiliar side of Wonwoo, a side so vulnerable and raw that it makes you feel loved and trusted. He quickly wipes the lone tear that escaped and runs down your cheek.
“Since that night, I knew you were not just my future but forever, my eternal.” He smiles before placing the sweetest kiss on your lips.
He slowly gets out of his chair, kneeling on one knee, still holding one of your hands. You gasp, covering your mouth with your free hand as more tears escape.
“I pictured this moment so many times since that night and had everything planned, but now I know it's okay if things don’t go as planned. What matters is how I feel for you, how you feel for me, how we feel for each other, and what we are building.”
As Wonwoo looked deep into your eyes, saying your full name with so much love and adoration, he put his hand in his pocket, pulled out the engagement ring of your dreams, and asked you to marry him. As you are about to say yes, you notice something falling from the sky in the distance that looks like a streak of white light, and more of them follow.
You look at Wonwoo, your heart full, looking at the sparkle in his eyes, admiring the scene he has created: the incredible view of the city behind Wonwoo, the bright moon, and the radiant stars shining bright as a metro shower rains in the distance, lighting up the sky. You do your best to try and connect to every one of your senses to cement this moment in your mind of eternity.
“Yes, Jeon Wonwoo.” You confidently say as happy tears fall from your eyes and his eyes light up.
“Really?!” He asked, and you could not help but find him asking for confirmation adorable.
“Yes!” You giggle. “I want to marry you too, Wonwoo.”
He quickly slides the engagement ring onto your finger before grabbing your face and kissing you deeply. He caresses your cheek when he pulls away, standing up and helping you stand up, walking with you closer to the side of the roof with a better view of the meteor shower. He looks deep into your eyes before kissing you passionately as you reciprocate.
Then he turns you around, cuddling you from behind, wrapping his hands around your waist, resting his chin on your shoulder, reveling in the most incredible moment of your life, as you and your fiancé watch the meteor shower whispering sweet nothings to each other.
✨ ✨ ✨ ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
“See, this is exactly why I was going to keep everything to myself,” Wonwoo says with a pout as he opens the car door for you.
You take the time it takes Wonwoo to walk around the car to the driver's side to calm down from your laughing. He said he had one more surprise for you and asked for you to dress like the two of you were going to the 3-star Michelin restaurant.
You look at your hand resting on your lap, noticing how your ring sparkles in the moonlight peeking through the windshield; it will take some time to get used to the new piece of jewelry on your hand, but you have never been happier to wear anything else. You were startled by Wonwoo kissing you on the cheek, so distracted you didn’t notice him getting in the car.
“Do you like it?” Wonwoo asked with a concerned look.
“Of course I do.” You beam at him. “I love it, it’s perfect.”
“Good, I’m glad.”
“But that hotel room...” you tease.
“Ha, ha!” he says dryly before laughing as he starts the car.
“At least Mingyu made up for it by bringing you the engagement ring you forgot.”
“I didn’t forget it.” He pouts. “I put it in the wrong pocket of another suitcase.”
“Why was the other suitcase even out? We’re just on a short 2-week trip.”
Wonwoo smirked as he grabbed your hand with your ring, kissed it, and continued to drive, not answering your question. You roll your eyes, lacing your fingers with his as you look out the window. After driving a bit, you notice the observatory Wonwoo was referring to. You found how much planning he put into the proposal cute, but you loved every second on that rooftop with him. You wouldn’t have had it any other way. He continues to drive past the observatory's entrance, and you turn around, looking at him confused.
“I thought you said we were going to the observatory?”
He chuckles. “I said we were going somewhere around the observatory.”
Wonwoo turns into a parking look of what looks like an event center, turning the car off. You look at him, still confused, and he gives you a quick peek on the lips before getting out of the car to open your door. You step out, holding his hand, and walk toward what seems to be the back of the building. He pulls out a key card, scans it, and opens the door for you.
“You steal that too?”
“No, and for the record, you were there when I turned the elevator repairman keycard back into the front desk.”
“True, I mean to them, you just found it anyway, technically not stolen, I guess.” You say, teasing him.
As you walk into the building, look up and take notice of the glass ceiling, allowing the view of the sky with all its stars and the beauty of the brightly shining moon to come into the building. You look up in awe before turning around to find your fiancé watching you with so much adoration in his eyes.
“Baby, this place is.” You are struggling to find the words.
“Breathtaking?” he smiles.
You nod as you approach him, grabbing his hands and looking deep into his eyes. The moonlight shines on his face perfectly, and he seems incredibly handsome, making you feel like the luckiest girl in the world. You pull him in for a kiss that quickly gets passionate as he places his hands on your waist. As things were heating, Wonwoo pulled away, quickly fixing your hair and cleaning up your smudged lipstick as you pouted at him.
He laughs, “Hold that thought, okay.”
You sigh, rolling your eyes. “Fine.”
He laughs, grabbing your hand and leading you down a hallway with a massive double door at the end. You start to get anxious, getting closer to the door. As soon as it opens, the lights quickly turn on in the dim room.
“Congratulations!”
You step back, almost falling over, but Wonwoo keeps you steady as tears sting your eyes. The beautifully decorated room is full of you and Wonwoo’s closet family and friends. He places his hand on the small of your back, and you look up at him with a smile.
“I told you had a plan.”
“That you did.” You smile back.
The two of you walk hand in hand toward all the guests, cheering with joy, who have come to support and celebrate the next chapter of your and Wonwoo’s life.
✨ ✨ ✨ ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
After making your rounds around the room, thanking everyone, listening to Mingyu and the other guys explain how things went left field, and grabbing a bite from the catering company that made all your favorite foods, you were on cloud nine. Your heart feels full as you slowly dance with Wonwoo under the moonlight, wishing the night never ends.
“I wish you could have gotten more time off of work.” You sigh. “Two weeks is not enough.”
“Who says I don’t?” Wonwoo smirks.
“What?”
“I was working so much so I could take the month off, not just two weeks. I packed for the month, and the guys brought our extra luggage.” He smiles, proud of himself. “If I had brought everything with us, you would be suspicious. But I put the engagement ring in one of the bags that did not come with us initially. Luckily, Mingyu and Woozi could drop the ring off in time.”
You caress his cheek, so touched by all the effort Wonwoo has put into cultivating your happiness, pulling him in for a passionate kiss. You are excited to spend the next chapter of your life with your attractive, intelligent, charming, kind, sincere, funny, cute, and spontaneous husband-to-be.
