North had always been the reckless one....He thrived on adrenaline, on pushing boundaries, and doing things he probably shouldn’t. So, when he found himself in a friend’s basement, surrounded by low lights and the lingering smell of smoke, it felt all too natural....
Night, his calm and collected best friend, stood at the edge of the room, arms crossed, a frown on his face as he watched North joke with their friends. He couldn’t help but feel exasperated. “Seriously, North? This is what you’ve come to? You know this shit is illegal, right?”
“Lighten up, Night! It’s just a little weed,” North replied, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. He had always been drawn to the thrill of it all, but Night’s frown deepened as he caught sight of the joint being passed around.
“Yeah, a little weed that’ll fuck you up,” Night shot back, rolling his eyes. “You’re going to regret this. Just don’t blame me when you can’t figure out how to get your dumb ass home.”
“Come on, man. It’s just for fun,” North insisted, and against his better judgment, he took the joint from his friend. It was all a blur of laughter and teasing, and he found himself raising it to his lips, ignoring the anxious knot in Night’s stomach..
“North, don’t-” Night started, but it was too late. North took a puff, the smoke filling his lungs and making him cough. He could feel the high creeping in almost immediately, and a wave of euphoria washed over him.
“Holy shit, this feels amazing!” he exclaimed, his laughter echoing off the walls. He looked over at Night, who was staring at him like he had just committed a crime. “You’re missing out, you know!”
Night ran a hand through his hair, frustration boiling just beneath the surface. “I’m not missing out on watching you make an idiot of yourself.... You’re acting like a fucking moron right now.”
But as North sank back into the couch, the world around him felt lighter. He could hear the muffled music and the sound of laughter, but everything seemed distant. He glanced at Night, who had reluctantly joined the group but still wore a look of annoyance.
“Why don’t you just try it?” North said, a goofy smile plastered on his face. “It’s not like you’re gonna die or anything. I’ll share my experience with you.”
“Yeah, because I want to be just like you right now. No thanks,” Night replied dryly, arms still crossed. “I’d rather not lose my fucking mind.”
As the night wore on, North could feel the high taking hold, warping his thoughts into a hazy, colorful mess. He couldn’t stop himself from reaching for Night, pulling him closer. “Come on, Night! Don’t you ever want to just let go? Live a little!”
Night’s eyes narrowed. “You think this is living? Getting high and losing control? This isn’t you, North. You’re better than this.”
For a moment, North felt something flicker in the air between them, a tension that pulled at him. He had always been reckless, but Night had always been the anchor, the voice of reason. “Maybe I want to be reckless for once,” North said, his voice softer. “Maybe I’m tired of being the responsible one....”
Night sighed, the weight of the world heavy on his shoulders. “And I’m tired of watching you fuck up your life, North...You’re not a kid anymore.”
But as North leaned in closer, he could see the cracks in Night’s tough exterior. “I’m still me,” he said, feeling bold in his haze. “Just a little…different tonight.”
“Different how?” Night challenged, but there was something in his tone that told North he was listening.
“Different like this.” With a sudden rush of courage, North pressed his lips against Night’s. It was a mix of urgency and sweetness, the high turning the world into a dream as he felt Night tense in surprise before melting against him...
Night’s initial shock faded, and he kissed back, the taste of smoke and something else entirely blending between them....It was messy and chaotic, just like North, and it sent a jolt of electricity through both of them...
When they finally pulled away, Night looked at North, breathless and wide eyed. “What the fuck was that?”
“Just living a little,” North replied, a smirk creeping back onto his face. But underneath, he felt something shift, a connection that had been there all along...
Night shook his head, still reeling. “You’re going to be the death of me, you know that?”
“Maybe,” North said, his grin widening. “But you kinda like it, don’t you?”
Night rolled his eyes, but there was a hint of a smile breaking through. “You’re impossible, you know that?”
“Yeah, but you’re stuck with me,” North said, the warmth of the moment wrapping around them as they both knew they were in this together....crazy, reckless, and undeniably real....
