Summary:

1x08 Fix it from when Rio is staring at Agatha’s grave

Notes:

AN: So I should definitely be sleeping because I start night shift in 3 hours, and I will definitely be writing other Agathario fics, potentially a more detailed fix-it, later, but right now I really wanted to write this short little rewrite.

Work Text:

For Rio Vidal, lady Death, there has never been a moment since she met Agatha Harkness where she didn’t trust the purple witch. Throughout all the centuries, throughout all the pain, the love, the anger, and even feelings of betrayal at the core of what Rio felt for the person who made death love is trust; she trusted that Agatha always had a plan, and so as she stares at the flowers where Agatha once lay all Rio can do is focus on the that; focus that Agatha wouldn’t have just done what she did without a plan of how to survive.

Next to her Rio hears the son of the Scarlett Witch, the being responsible for her pain, move to pick up something and Rio doesn’t even have to look at him to know what it is; and she knows, without a doubt, that she cannot let that object fall into his possession.

“Leave it,” Rio grows, turning to look at Billy with her true face clear. “You can go,” Rio says, putting as menacing tone of voice as possible, and just like she expected Billy, so naive of the truths of the universe, runs from the yard.

After Billy leaves Rio, picks up the object he was trying to steal before turns back to the flowers, and waits, turning her face back to her human persona, and listening in a way only she can, until she is sure that Billy has driven away.

“He’s gone, Agatha,” Rio says, and seconds later the flowers before her turn back into their true form, Agatha Harkness, alive and well, but gasping for breath. “That was dangerous,” Rio says, as she sticks out her hand, which Agatha takes, as she allows Rio to pull her to her feet.

“When did you figure it out?” Agatha asks curious, once she is once more standing before Rio.

“When you said you never wanted to see my face,” Rio admits. “You were always scared your mother would have you again, but then I promise you…”

“That when I eventually died, I’d see your face, and you’d make sure she never came close,” Agatha finishes, feeling glad that even after all these centuries Rio remembered a tiny conversation they once had. “Thank you for remembering,” Agatha says gratefully, as she knew she was putting a lot on Rio with this particular plan, but just like Rio trusted her, she trusted Rio to realise what was really going on.

“You don’t have to thank me, I just trusted you, just like I have always done,” Rio says, as she takes a step towards Agatha. “I could have gone without hearing those words though,” Rio admits, as even though she realised what Agatha was doing it hurt to hear the words.

“I’m sorry,” Agatha says, as she reaches out and touches Rio’s face. “He was controlling everything on the Road, I couldn’t be sure he wouldn’t hear,” Agatha admits. “You have to admit though, the fight was fun,” Agatha says with a smirk.

“That it was,” Rio says, with a laugh. “Everything did look good on you honey. How’d you know it would convince him?”

“He’s naive, wants to be the hero… has major main character energy, I used that,” Agatha explains. “Plus, he’s a romantic, there’s no way he wouldn’t find a kiss of death the perfect ending,” Agatha says, rolling her eyes.

“That will never be your ending,” Rio says to Agatha, both knowing that what has bound them together for centuries would make it so something like that would never happen.

“I know,” Agatha says. “Speaking of endings… Jen? Lilia? Alice?” Agatha asks.

“Clawing their way out now, completely fine; and with a story I’m sure they will share far and wide,” Rio admits.

“The con continues,” Agatha says, not completely sure how she feels about that.

“Only if you want it to, Babe,” Rio tells her, and as she can tell that Agatha is hesitant Rio reaches out and pints the broach that holds an item that means so much to them both back on Agatha’s chest. “There, right where it belongs,” Rio says, as she gently taps the pendent in the same way Agatha does.

“And so am I,” Agatha says, before leaning forward and kissing Rio once more, a kiss that isn’t for a show, a kiss that isn’t to play into the delusions of a boy with two much power, but one that is solely and completely a show of love between Death and the person her heart beats for. “Much better,” Agatha says, as they break apart.

“Ready to get out of this damn town?” Rio asks, as she certainly is.

“Where are you thinking?” Agatha asks curious.

“Somewhere sunny… we could use a vacation,” Rio admits.

“I like the sound of that,” Agatha responds, smiling as she imagines them both somewhere far away… preferably in as little clothing as possible. “I’m in your hands,” Agatha responds, and once she does Rio warps both her arms around Agatha, holding her close, and together the two of them disappear from the place that has only caused Agatha harm; both knowing that no matter what happens their trust, their understanding over each other will never waver, allowing their Love to Continue.
