Blaise sat outside in the chill air and sipped his coffee. He was waiting for his friend Draco and his fiancé. Draco still hadn’t told Blaise who he was engaged to and it was starting to get to him. He finally spotted the blonde coming towards and was shocked to see a redhead following close behind. There was no way.
“Hey, Blaise,” Draco said as he and Ginny Weasley sat down in front of him, “Oh, shut your mouth, you prat.”
“What? How-?” Blaise questioned.
“It’s not that shocking,” Draco glared at him. “After father was sent to Azkaban, Mum reconnected with some old friends from school. Molly Weasley was one of those friends. Molly hadn’t known that Mum was a spy but was thrilled to see her friend again. I had liked Ginny since my fourth year when I saw her at the ball with Longbottom. After Mum reconnected with Molly, I thought I might have a chance. So I asked her out. And the rest is history,”
“Wow, I was not expecting that,” Blaise sat back in shock.
“Well, neither was I,” Ginny said, “at least, not that he would ask me out first. I thought I was going to have to do it.” She grinned at her fiancé.
“Whatever,” Draco grinned back before turning to Blaise, “So, I wanted to invite you to my Halloween party. Costumes are required. It’s myths, and I already have your costume.”
“I haven’t even said yes,” Blaise rolled his eyes, of course he was going to go. He would never miss any party that Draco threw.
“Just come over a little early so you can get into your costume,” Draco grinned, “It’s this Saturday, Halloween.”
They talked for a while longer before parting and as they did Blaise asked, “Who am I going as?”
“Hades,” Draco called behind him as he and Ginny made their way into the crowd.
Hades? Blaise thought, Why him of all people? Sure, he fit the part: rich, handsome, dark and brooding, in love with someone he couldn’t have. But still, why Hades?
Saturday finally came and he made his way to Draco’s mansion. He was led to Draco’s room where Draco was already waiting. Draco was already in his costume, a toga wrapped around his body and white feather wings stretching behind him.
“Who are you supposed to be?” Blaise said as he watched Draco pull out his costume.
“Eros,” he said, “Ginny is Psyche. Now put this on,” he handed Blaise his costume and left him to change.
Blaise pulled on the black toga and slipped the gold and silver arm bands on. He was impressed with the outfit. He put the crystal crown on and took one last look in the mirror before walking out to where Draco was finishing putting up decorations.
“You look good,” Draco commented as he saw Blaise come.
“Thanks! When are people arriving?”
“In just a few,” and just then the doorbell rang, “Will you get that?”
“Sure,” and he made his way to the front door. He opened the door and his jaw dropped.
~~~~~
Harry stared at his best friends, “What?”
“A Halloween party!” Hermione said excitedly.
“Why?” Harry glanced at Ron who shrugged.
“Because, it’s fun!”
“Where?”
“Draco’s.”
“Do I have to?”
“Yes.”
“What will I wear?” He would try everything to get of this.
“Don’t worry, I already picked out your outfit.”
“Fine, when is it?”
“Tomorrow!” Hermione said happily.
“‘Mione! Why didn’t you tell me about this earlier?”
“I forgot,” but the glint in her eye told Harry that she had most certainly not forgotten, Hermione never forgets things. “Just come by ours to get ready and then we’ll go over together.”
“Fine, I’ll be there.”
So there he was. On the steps of Malfoy Manor. Dressed in an, albeit very nice, Persephone costume. Harry was very thankful to Hermione that she had made it more masculine. He was also thankful she had chosen a non-problematic myth. Hermione and Ron were Andromeda and Perseus which suited them well. Ginny had joined them to get ready and she was Psyche. Harry assumed Draco was Eros. He rang the doorbell and waited for Draco or one of his house-elves. But it wasn’t Draco or a house-elf who opened the door. It was-
“Blaise!” Ginny said cheerfully, “Glad you could make it! Where’s my fiancé?”
“In the main room, finishing decorating,” Blaise was still staring at Harry, mouth slightly open.
“Thanks! Come on Ron, Hermione,” Ginny said, making her way past Blaise, followed by Ron and Hermione.
A moment of silence passed between Harry and Blaise before Harry spoke, “So, are you going to let me in?”
Blaise seemed to snap out of a trance. “Oh, yeah, sorry,” He opened the door wider and Harry slipped past him, hiding a grin. As much as Harry would hate to admit it, he was glad he came.
~~~~~
Blaise watched Harry talk with some old school friends from across the room. Now Blaise knew why Draco had picked Hades. It was obvious who Harry was supposed to be. With the golden toga, vine arm bands, and flowery crown.
“So, are you going to actually talk to him or just stare daggers at anyone who goes near him?” Draco’s voice made him jump.
“What?” Blaise said absentmindedly, eyes narrowed as Seamus Finnigan draped an arm across Harry’s shoulders as they laughed about something.
“Go ask him to dance or something! I will not have my bestfriend pining from across for the entirety of my party just because he doesn’t have the courage to ask out the man he’s liked for years!” Draco glared at him.
“Shh,” Blaise glanced around.
“It’s not like you were hiding it very well. I think the only person who doesn’t know you like Harry is Harry,” Draco crossed his arms.
“Fine, I’ll talk to him, but if he rejects me I'm not going to try again!” Blaise agreed.
“I don’t care, as long as you stop making puppy dog eyes from across the room and actually grow a pair,” Draco called as he made his way back over to where Ginny was.
Blaise sighed. Draco was right, he should really just ask Harry out. Blaise glanced up and saw that Harry had disappeared from where he had been. Great, now he was going to have to try to find Harry. He made his way through the crowd, silently cursing Draco for inviting so many people. He finally spotted the black haired man making his way down a secluded hall. He followed silently, finally seeing Harry slip outside. He followed Harry out into Draco’s large garden, a silent night surrounding them. Harry stopped and looked straight up into the sky, looking at the stars.
“Hey,” Blaise said softly, as to not startle Harry too much.
Harry turned bright green eyes to him and smiled slightly, “Hi.”
“What are you doing?”
“Stargazing. Want to join?” Harry plopped onto the grass and Blaise sat next to him.
~~~~~
Harry glanced up to see Blaise talking to Draco across the room and sighed. He had been trying to work up the courage to talk to Blaise all night but still hadn’t done anything. And the party was starting to get crowded. Sighing again, he slipped away from the conversation and down a secluded hallway. Finally finding a door that led outside he opened it and made his way out. Looking up, he drank in the sight of the stars above him.
“Hey,” a deep, quiet voice came from behind him and Harry turned.
“Hi,” he smiled when he saw it was Blaise. Maybe now was his chance.
“What are you doing?”
“Stargazing. Want to join?” Harry plopped onto the grass and Blaise sat next to him. Harry could feel the warmth radiating off Blaise and scooted a little closer.
They sat in silence for a little while, both staring into the stars.
“So,” Harry turned to Blaise, “What brings you out here?”
A deep chuckle rumbled in Blaise’s chest, “I could ask you the same question.”
“Too crowded,” Harry sighed, resisting the urge to lean against Blaise.
“Yeah,” Blaise sighed and draped an arm over Harry’s shoulder, the way he had seen Seamus do it.
Harry took that as an invitation. He scooted even closer into Blaise’s side. The silence stretched again. But it was a comfortable, calm silence.
“So,” Blaise said finally, “Who do we blame for this?”
“So it wasn’t your idea,” Harry grinned.
“No, I was tricked into it.”
“I was tricked as well,” Harry chuckled slightly and then an idea came to him. “How about a treat for the trick?”
Blaise turned to him, eyes bright, “What did you have in mind?”
Without saying another word, Harry closed the space between them. As their lips met, Harry brought his hands up to Blaise’s toga, pulling him closer. Blaise’s hand brushed up his back to his neck where they stayed. When they pulled apart they were breathless.
Resting his forehead against Harry’s, Blaise sighed, “I think that was a suitable treat.”
That made Harry laugh, “Yeah, I think so too,” and after a moment, “We are going to have to tell them eventually.”
“Yeah,” Blaise sighed, “And they are going to lord it over us forever, Draco especially.”
“Hermione too,” Harry grinned.
“But that can wait until later,” and Blaise pulled Harry closer, their lips meeting once more.
