He talks to Wakasa about it, which is always a fucking mistake. Wakasa has an amazing tendency to ruin your own logic for you, undermine everything you are saying, and leave you feeling hollow from what should have been a chat. But they are meant to be best friends, so Shinichiro has the naive expectation that one day Wakasa will have his back.
“I don’t get it”, Wakasa says. He’s lying across the bed, ankles crossed, his hair pulled up in a long white messy ponytail. The sun is draped across him, coming through the window and refracting the dust in Shinichiro’s room.
“What don’t you get?”, Shin asks, exhaustedly.
“So Mikey can beat the shit out of anyone? And this kid…”
“Is in foster care, unstable, and -” Shinichiro begins to list.
“Oh yeah”, Wakasa hums. “Why is he in foster care again?”
“Because my mother is dying, my brother just got a new sister, my grandad is pushing 75, and you sleep in my room six of seven nights a week”, Shinichiro snaps.
