For 13 years, the two brothers have waited ever so patiently for their courtships letters from Jiang Wanyin and Wei Wuxian but to no avail, instead receiving courtship letters from all manner of individuals who desire their hand in marriage.

Tired of his sons' pining, Clan Leader Lan - Qingheng-Jun - decide to take matters into his own hands and orchestrate an plan of action with his old friends, Jiang Fengmian and Wei Changze in the hopes their sons can finally be honest with each other.

Notes:

I have another self-indulgant MDZS fanfic for all. This one is a canon-divergant au where the Twin Prides never went through all that pain and suffering and there's a lot of fluff involved.

I also just wanted to fix Jiang Cheng's parents and give Wei Ying his family back. No one is dead, every major character who dies in canon, is alive in this fic.

Please enjoy the fluff and romantic pining courtesy of the Twin Jades.

Chapter 1: ...From your myriad of admirers

Chapter Text

Golden Carp Tower, Lanling

|🏵|

Chief Cultivator, Jin Guangyao, the younger half brother of the Lanling Jin Clan Leader, Jin Zixuan, had called a symposium between him and the other ⅔ of the Venerated Triad to discuss a topic of importance:

Lan Xichen’s constant stream of monthly courtship letters from all over the country

At present, it was the biggest issue that needed to be resolved, yet it provided a source of entertainment for the three renowned cultivators. The symposium was one of the very few times all three sworn brothers had the chance to sit and chat like old friends without the stingy air of professionalism clinging onto them.

Lan Xichen, the heir to the Lan Clan had approached the round table and at said table of polished mahogany was Jin Guangyao in all his finery and splendour, his long silken brown locks tumbling down his back. He was sipping some tea in peace and cracked open an eye to regard his older sworn brother, dressed in pure blue and white as usual. Next to the Chief Cultivator, towering over him, was Clan Leader Nie Mingjue in his grey robes and armour, his stoic expression unchanging.

Both Jin Gaungyao and Nie Mingjue glanced at Lan Xichen sparingly for a few moments, before the oldest sworn brother sighed. “Alright, let's see this month’s pile.”

Lan Xichen extended his arm and pulled on his wide sleeve, causing a large cluster of letters to tumble onto the table. “This is all I could fit. There was more…”

Jin Guangyao spluttered and choked. “There’s more??”

Lan Xichen took his seat and they helped him sift through the pile he had bought with him, opening and analysing the letters with expert scrutiny. They had done this so many times over the last few decades it had become practically second nature.

Some of the letters Lan Xichen had received were harmless. Hand written poetry and confessions of affection that aimed to sweep the First Jade of his feet. He recalled the amount of letters he and his brother had received from their respective admirers and Lan Xichen cringed at the memory of a large discarded pile of unopened letters he refused to read. He would get letters from both men and women, some of these were harmless, others were more raunchy and sordid.

The debauched letters were the ones he refuses to read. He even forbids his brother Lan Wangji from reading these types of letters lest the younger Jade suffers from a minute breakdown upon reading such vulgar language. Those who sent him those types of courtship letters would only get a curt reply before every one of the letters would be magically burnt or used as scrap material.

“Uhh…what exactly did you say to Young Master Ren to get him to write like this so desperately? And why is he talking about his siz- you know what? I don't want to know.” Jin Guangyao discarded the letter he had been reading into the ‘rejected’ pile. Nie Mingjue had already discarded two of the letters he had read over and regarded Lan Xichen with a frown as he held up another letter with a pink flower attached to the paper between his fingers.

“Another letter from Master Jiyan again. This is the fifth letter he's sent in the last two months.”

Lan Xichen grumbled. “I already sent him several rejection letters. He's quite persistent.”

They sifted through some letters and Jin Gaungyao noticed the increasingly gloomy expression that was morphing on Lan Xichen's pale visage and decided to ask the most important question.

“I take it you haven't received a single letter from Yunmeng, much less from Jiang Wanyin?”

Lan Xichen immediately became dejected, deflating and sighing. “No. Not a single one. I even asked my father and uncle to be on the lookout and tell me if there was a letter from Yunmeng but…..ugh..” Lan Xichen slumped forward and knocked his head onto the table, mumbling sadly.

“I've been so obvious with my attempts at courtship as well and yet he still hasn't noticed that I want him. Does he not like me in some way? Am I too intimidating? Does he not want a male partner? What if he only likes women with dainty ankles and feminine curves and soft chests….am I too tall for him? What if he likes someone else?”

Jin Gaungyao looked at his friend with a sad, empathetic expression and thought to himself ‘Isn't this the 47th time he's been upset about this whole situation?’

Lan Xichen continued whining softly, making sad noises which was off-putting to Nie Mingjue, who groaned. “Please stop whining about this situation. Maybe he’s already got a courtship letter from someone and that's why he’s not sending you any because he's not interested?” the eldest sworn brother suggested, a scowl on his face and with a shrug of his shoulders. Jin Guangyao whipped his head the other way so fast with the most horrified expression this situation called for.

Lan Xichen burst into tears and wailed. “Wanyin doesn’t love me!”

“Excuse me? Why would you say that? That's not very helpful, you know!” he cried out, swatting Nie Mingjue with what little strength he could muster that would do any sort of damage to the mighty warrior. Nie Mingjue immediately looked guilty and hung his head. “Xichen, I'm sorry. I'm not the best person to come to for courtship advice.”

Lan Xichen did not respond, his wails quietening down yet he was still filled with heartache. How long did he have to wait until the heir of the Yunmeng Jiang clan finally noticed his romantic intentions? Forever??

Nie Mingjue simply stared at his friend with a tired frown. ‘I am this close to putting this guy in a crate and shipping him all the way to Yunmeng as a gift. If that's the way to get Xichen to stop pining after this one singular person, then so shall it be done.’
