It's Too Late

Summary:

Scar has been killing as a villain for a long time, now.

When Grian finds out... it's bound to be a mess.

Work Text:

"Could you change out of those bloodied clothes before you sit on my couch?”

Scar laughs, but doesn't respond, staying put.

"I'm serious. Go change."

"If it makes you feel better, none of it is mine!"

Grian is silent. He scrubs harder at the dishes. "Nobody died... right?"

Scar's silence speaks more than words.

He squeezes his sponge so tightly in his fist that it's drained of all moisture. "Scar. You- you promised me. You promised no one would get hurt."

"I'm sorry." HIs voice is quiet, but it grates against Grian's ears.

He slams his fist down, a plate shattering with it and shards ripping into his hand. Grian screams in frustration, clenching the counter while blood leaks from his palm. "How many people?"

The villain behind him is silent again.

Grian whirls around, slamming his fist down against the island as well, "How many people, Scar!?" He yells.

"I- Tonight- It wasn't... It wasn't just tonight-"

Grian screams, his throat ripping, "What do you mean it wasn't just tonight!?"

Scar tries to approach Grian, tries to put his bloody gloves onto the red sweater, "Don't touch me!"

How could he.

How could he?!

"I didn't want to believe you could do something like this!"

Scar's mouth bobs up and down, "Grian- I didn't want to- just calm down, please, we can sort this-"

"Or what?! You'll kill me too?"

Scar's jaw sets, "Grian. Too far."

"Oh? But am I wrong?! You don't seem to abide by any of the rules I put in place to help you stay human when I let you become a villain! Why would you not try to kill me?!"

"Grian I'd never-" Scar reaches for Grian again.

He slaps the man's hand away, "Never hurt me, sure. But you've hurt countless others!"

"How do you expect me to sleep in the same house as you now that I know what you've done? How do you expect me to be your friend, supportive and loving, and follow you to the ends of the earth when I know that you'll kill people to get there?"

"Grian, I am still human. I had no choice in killing those people, just listen to me! Please!"

The red sweater wearing man seethes, gripping the island counter like his life depends on it. "I can't let this go on any longer."

"You have to! 'For better or for worse', you made a promise to me as well, please remember that!" Scar begs Grian, trying to take hold of his wrist again.

Grian moves away from the kitchen shoving his way into his bedroom, which Scar follows to.

"I didn't agree to this."

He pulls a bag out and starts shoving his stuff in. "Grian- No, wait-"

"When I made that promise I did not agree to let you kill. I did not agree to kill for you. And you aren't listening to me, so I'm done."

"Grian please. I love you."

He shoves more of his stuff into the bag, and then pulls another one out. "If you truly love me, you'll stop."

Scar is silent again.

That says enough for Grian, and he throws the two bags he's put together over his shoulders.

"You're not human. You're as much a monster as the rest of them. I thought if I helped you I could keep you from doing so, but you aren't accepting my help anymore, Scar. So I'm gone."

The door slams in Scar's face, and the villain thinks that that might be the last person to ever shut one in front of him.

He has nobody else.

Scar slides down to the floor, and sobs.
