Work Text:
Gundham was waiting patiently for his girlfriend outside the main doors of Hope’s Peak Academy, feeling the breeze on his nose, he loved autumn, especially when he could wear his usual attire without being too warm. He felt a ruffling in his neck and turned slightly to see Cham-P looking up at him, his small nose twitching as he sniffed the air.
“My Deva, I shall advice you to not exit your den. The freezing breath of the bear could challenge your coat of illusions.” He said.
The chubby hamster didn’t seem to understand a word, but he still crawled back inside Gundham’s purple scarf, preferring the warmth of his neck instead of the cold air outside.
“Hello! I’m sorry I made you wait!” Sonia soon chirped, taking the tall boy’s attention.
She was wearing a beige sweater, a teal skirt and dark pants underneath, aside from dull brown boots. She was also holding a cup of coffee on each hand, Gundham recognized them as the ones given in the cafeteria. She wordlessly handed one of them to him, who took it gently.
“I decided to buy us some coffee, given how it’s kinda cold, I hope you like it.” She beamed.
Gundham carefully sniffed his drink, it was a Vietnamese coffee, a little bitter in comparison to his preferred latte, but he wouldn’t tell her that, he took a sip and nodded.
“I must admit the taste dominates my papillae.” He said, to which Sonia smiled warmly.
“I’m glad, I got myself a… Frappe, I’ve never tried it before.” She said, looking at her own coffee cup with a brow arched. “I hope it’s tasty!”
“It is blessed by the twin stars, I would be surprised if it wasn’t to your pleasure.” He replied, Sonia chuckled.
“Let’s try it.” She said, carefully taking a sip, humming as she swallowed. “No lemon?” Was all she said afterwards, it even took Gundham by surprise.
“Is the kingdom of snow an ally to the brown and yellow nation?” He asked in confusion.
Sonia seemed to process his words for a moment before she could answer.
“Yes! We often have our coffee with lemon.” She beamed.
Gundham hummed in thought.
“Shall we take seat?” He offered after taking another sip, Sonia quickly nodded, approaching a nearby bench.
“Yes, we can go see the pumpkins afterwards.” She agreed, sitting down, Gundham followed.
They didn’t talk much while enjoying their coffees, one of the things they enjoyed about being together was that they didn’t feel the need to talk and they could simply enjoy each other’s company in silence. Once they were done, they both got up, ready to check out the pumpkins.
“I actually had an idea, I think you’ll like it.” Sonia said as they made their way through the pumpkin patch, Gundham looked down at her curiously. “We could find the most perfect one… And ask the school to give it to us for carving!” She exclaimed happily.
Gundham watched her for a second with interest, he wasn’t sure the school allowed that, but it would be a nice idea, and saying that he didn’t want to do it as well would be a lie.
“As the supreme dark lord of ice, I surmise that would be a fine proposal.”
“Yay!” Sonia bounced on her heels with an excited smile, Gundham didn’t regret a thing.
She soon started looking down at the pumpkins, her eyes quickly searching for the one with the best shape. Gundham meanwhile looked the other side to find the one with the brightest color. At some point neither of them noticed, they started holding hands while walking.
After a few minutes, they were surprised to stumble upon Mikan, who greeted them happily, she seemed to be doing well.
“H-Hey you two! These are so pretty, r-right? I h-hope they make some juice with them, they have a lot of Vitamin A and other antioxidants.” She chimed.
“I’ve never had that before! I hope they do.” Sonia exclaimed happily, waving as they walked past her, she then looked up at her boyfriend. “Have you had it?” She asked.
Gundham tried to recall any instances of it, but ultimately shook his head.
“If I have I don’t remember it.” He replied.
They continued to walk, noticing Peko and Fuyuhiko walking together as well, holding hands as they looked around, neither seemed too interested in the pumpkins. Sonia however seemed very eager to gossip about it. Gundham was more so interested in looking for the prettiest pumpkin, he wasn’t having any luck so far.
“Oh, hey-yuh! Looking at the pumpkins?” The tall boy was suddenly startled by Akane’s voice, who was walking along with Nekomaru a few meters away.
“Yeah! We’re looking for the most perfect one to carve.” Sonia exclaimed happily in response, Nekomaru suddenly seemed a lot more interested.
“Me and Akane are looking for the biggest!” He replied, lifting his arms.
“Do you think the school will let us carve it?” Sonia asked, approaching the couple.
Akane hummed.
“Maybe if you pay for it.” She said with a shrug. “I just wanted to eat one really.”
Gundham decided to join the conversation.
“As might be expected of you. If the castle makes us endow for it I would be obscurely outraged, nevertheless.” He admitted, feeling his hamsters sneaking out of his clothes curiously, their fur was very warm.
“...what’s he saying again?” Akane asked, pointing at him with her thumb while looking at Sonia.
The princess chuckled.
“He’s just saying how much of a pity it’d be if we had to pay.” She said.
Nekomaru nodded.
“That’s true. But I think it would be worth it.” He said, and after a brief moment he started walking once again, Akane quickly following. “Now, we don’t want to take any more of your duet time, enjoy the afternoon.” He bid goodbye.
Both Sonia and Gundham waved back.
As they continued to walk, Gundham noticed Maga-Z peeking out of his sleeve, his attention seemed focused on a particular pumpkin nearby, the Ultimate Breeder gasped.
“I have found the chosen one!” He exclaimed, Sonia quickly turned to look, her face was full of eagerness.
“Which one!?”
Gundham walked a couple of steps away, crouching next to a particular pumpkin. It was quite small in size, but the shape was as perfect as imperfection could be, and the color was the brightest orange of all.
“It’s inherited the flames from the sun.” He murmured.
“It’s so pretty!” Sonia agreed. “We have to ask if we’re allowed to carve them.”
“It… reminds me of you.” Gundham admitted a bit shyly, he was about to apologize for the weird compliment but instead he received a warm hug from his girlfriend.
“Thank you!” They hugged for a couple of minutes, keeping each other warm.
