Chapter Text
Talking to your friend/roommate/boss about how you felt about them was easier said than done.
Chanyeol snuck in and headed straight towards his bedroom, hoping to put off his conversation with Kyungsoo for the next day, but just as he was passing by Kyungsoo’s door, it swung open, making Chanyeol jump and run into the wall to his right.
“Chanyeol oh my god!” Kyungsoo started. “Where have you been? I’ve been worried! You just ran out and then you didn’t come home! Sehun told me you were okay but didn’t tell me where you’d gone–”
“I’m okay, Kyungsoo!” Chanyeol cut his friend off once he’d composed himself. “I was at Sehun’s. Are you okay? I heard that guy broke in…I’m sorry for running away I just thought…I umm…” He felt the warmth spreading over his cheeks and he cursed himself internally.
Luckily, Kyungsoo seemed to understand. His shoulders relaxed and a small smile spread on his lips. “Yeah, I took care of him, so it’s all good. He didn’t even hurt me.”
Hearing directly from Kyungsoo that he was fine, Chanyeol released a breath of relief. “That’s good then. I do wonder how they broke in, though. Maybe we should talk to security so they can take a look at the CCTVs.”
But Kyungsoo shook his head, waving a hand dismissively. “No need. It’s just some guy from a rival vampire coven. Something about a petty grudge they have with us…I don’t really know what it’s about, but I blame Baekhyun.”
“Ha ha, real funny, Kyungsoo.” He snorted, rolling his eyes. “Vampires.”
The younger man raised an eyebrow at him. “You got something against vampires?”
“Not really, but I don’t see how they’re relevant?”
Now Kyungsoo’s eyebrows pulled into a frown. “What do you mean? I’m literally a vampire. The guy that broke in was a vampire…you know this…”
Chanyeol did not know this.
He blinked dumbly at Kyungsoo, trying to make sense of what he’d said. But his mind wasn't cooperating.
“You’re not a vampire.”
“I–I literally drink blood in front of you every day…” The disbelief was evident in Kyungsoo’s voice.
Blood? When did he…The answer hit Chanyeol as he remembered Kyungsoo’s wine collection. It was blood, not wine.
At Chanyeol’s silence, the younger man continued. “I can’t go out in the sun, I sleep in a coffin, I tell you stories about what I did centuries ago…you literally saw my fangs and red eyes right as I was about to bite someone…”
And the pieces finally started piecing together. It made sense, all of it. How had Chanyeol been so blind? It wasn’t like his friend was very subtle about it.
“Oh…” his voice was small as the truth finally settled in. “You’re a vampire.”
And then he passed out.

Chanyeol woke up on his bed and tucked under his covers. He blinked blearily, adjusting to the dim glow of the lamps.
“Are you feeling alright, Yeol-ah?” The voice was quiet, but Chanyeol knew instantly that it was Kyungsoo. He nodded, focusing his vision on the blurry blob of colors that stood at the end of his bed. After a few more blinks, the colors started to sharpen, revealing a fidgety Kyungsoo, face scrunched up in concern.
“How long was I out?”
“A few hours.”
Chanyeol hummed in response. A silence stretched between them after that, while he processed the memories that were slowly returning to him. Kyungsoo was a vampire. And Chanyeol hadn't noticed. The more he thought about, the more embarrassed he got. It was so obvious when he thought about it now. He wanted to bury himself deep in his pillows to hide in shame.
Kyungsoo cleared his throat, pulling Chanyeol from his thoughts. “Umm…you…you really didn't know I was a vampire?” His voice was hesitant, as if he feared Chanyeol's reaction.
The elder shook his head, rubbing his hands over his face with a groan. “I can't believe I didn't realize I'm so stupid.”
A quiet chuckle reached his ears. “It's okay. It was our fault for assuming you knew. But…you’re okay with it? You’re not scared, or anything?”
Chanyeol took a minute to think about that. He’d apparently been living with someone who could kill him easily for the past year, yet he’d never felt threatened by the other. Sure, Kyungsoo liked to beat him up, but it was always playful and never left more than a few bruises. Not to mention, Chanyeol always returned the favor. Besides, it had been an entire year, after all.
“No.” he responded. “No, it’s fine. I’m not scared of you. It’s shocking, yes, but I’m more embarrassed than anything.”
Relief visibly washed over Kyungsoo at his words, shoulders relaxing and form slumping. He walked around the bed to sit at Chanyeol’s side, a genuine smile gracing his features. “I’m glad…I didn’t want to have to find a new roommate. I like you too much.”
At that last sentence, Chanyeol’s heart stuttered. With all the new information he’d obtained, he’d forgotten about what he’d wanted to tell Kyungsoo that evening. What he wanted to confess. For a brief moment, he questioned if he still liked Kyungsoo, even knowing that he was a vampire, but one look at the younger’s smile, and he knew that the fact changed nothing. He still had feelings for Kyungsoo, vampire or not. He gently took Kyungsoo’s hand in his, gently rubbing at his knuckles.
“I like you, too,” he nearly whispered. “As…as more than a friend.”
He felt Kyungsoo stiffen, but kept his eyes on their hands. “You…you do?” The question was so quiet, Chanyeol wouldn’t have heard it if they weren’t so close. He nodded, and Kyungsoo let out a breath.
“I do, too…like you romantically, that is.”
The elder looked up in disbelief. He hadn’t imagined his confession to go so well. But he didn’t mind either. After missing all the signs that Kyungsoo was a vampire, it was nice to have a straightforward answer from the man about how he felt. They sat in a comfortable silence, occasionally stealing shy glances, until something Kyungsoo said earlier seemed to register in the back of Chanyeol’s mind.
“Wait…you said it was ‘our’ fault for assuming, as in you and others…who else were you referring to?”
Kyungsoo blinked. “Oh…my friends. All of them are vampires and werewolves. They’re the ones that convinced me you already knew I was a vampire. Apparently, they thought I was being so obvious there was no way you didn’t know already.”
“Wow…that just makes me feel even worse.” He didn’t think about the fact that all of Kyungsoo’s friends were vampires and werewolves? That was something best left to digest another day.
“It’s okay, I think it’s cute how oblivious you are.”
That earned him a scoff. “I am not oblivious!”
“Yes, you are. It was right in front of you the whole time.”
“I thought you were a raging alcoholic!”
Kyungsoo laughed loudly at that. “Seriously?”
“I was about to have an intervention with Junmyeon hyung!”
The vampire dropped his head on Chanyeol’s shoulder as he laughed, his heart smile on full display and his eyes turned into little crescents. Looking at him, Chanyeol couldn’t find it in himself to continue being offended. But he played along anyway.
“Why do you even eat? Don’t you just need to drink blood?”
“Just because we don’t need to eat doesn’t mean we have to stop enjoying it! I quite like eating tasty foods. As long as I have enough blood, I’m fine. Besides, I like cooking for you.”
Something in Chanyeol’s chest warmed at that, and a smile stretched across his face. “Well, I love eating your cooking.”
Kyungsoo beamed at that, and then he stood up. “That reminds me, we should probably make dinner! It’s way past our usual dinner time.” he hesitated for a moment before leaning down and pecking Chanyeol on the lips. Flashing a quick smirk, he fled the room, heading down the hall to the kitchen.
Stunned, Chanyeol could only sit there, eyes wide and mouth parted. Shaking his head, he scrambled out of bed and ran down the hall, determined to steal a much better kiss from the vampire.
