WARCRAFT IV -- CHAPTER 3 - Reign of the Damned 1 (Undead Campaign)

Chapter 17: Fall of Gilneas

Chapter Text

Back at the isolated peninsula of Gilneas, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot lead their undead warriors upon leaving the now ruined Gilnean Capital City by destroying the sealed city gate at Merchant Square. Upon exiting through the outside bridge, the Scourge landed on the eastern region of the peninsula. Arriving on a small and completely abandoned stable, the undead forces plan to follow the trail of Genn Greymane and his troops towards a town called Tempest's Reach. Upon the abandoned horse stable lies a road that starts outside the Capital City. The road leads to the north towards an outlying village near the northwestern hills. Kel'Thuzad observes the surroundings, and forms up a plan for their next move in their pursuit of Genn Greymane and their conquest over the kingdom of Gilneas.

Kel'Thuzad: "It appears that Baron Rivendare and our dreadlord ally finally succeeded upon taking over the lands of Stromgarde on the far east. Our master is pleased by their victory, and so we must also succeed in destroying this nation, Gorerot. We have already taken over their Capital City. The only thing left for us to do is to find and slay Genn Greymane, and conquer the rest of these lands."

Gorerot: "We find and tear coward old king! We crush all of kingdom! We win for mighty master!"

Kel'Thuzad: "Indeed we shall, Gorerot. Nothing can stop us! We are on right path in following his trail. It seems this abandoned stable is where the humans would leave their horses if they will enter the city. We should be able to find a way on reaching the other outlying towns on this region if we follow the pathway. Let us move, Gorerot. It is time that we too complete our conquest of Gilneas."

From the abandoned stable, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot lead their undead warriors in moving towards the north as they follow the road through the wilderness. Moving along the path, the Scourge forces eventually arrive upon the outskirts of an outlying town known as Emberstone Village, which lies at the coast of the Northgate River and near the northeastern hills of Gilneas. A mining facility lies in the hills called the Emberstone Mine that serves as the major source of coal to the kingdom. The common folks from the nearby Emberstone Village work as the miners. The coal mined in the hills are used to smelt steel, and are also turned into coal dusts as additional component for the explosive bombs. The Emberstone Village is a small town that is being guarded by a group of Gilnean troops and several defensive towers. Upon seeing the arrival of the undead outside their town, the soldiers alert all the townsmen in the village, and quickly sent a knight as a runner to warn the other villages. The soldiers that live on the Emberstone Village brace themselves for battle in defense of the town.

Kel'Thuzad: "We have reached the northeastern hills by the edge of the Greymane Wall. It appears it serve as abundant source of coal and the nearby folks in that little town are working as the miners. I do see why the Gilneans possess many explosives in their arsenal that they use for their defenses."

Captain: "What the? The undead! Everyone, brace yourselves! The wretched undead have arrived! They already invaded much of our kingdom! We must now fight to protect our town and our land!"

Knight: "Damn! They managed to reach our town after destroying our Capital! Will we be able to stop them? I must ride to King Greymane and warn him that the Scourge are attacking once again!"

Kel'Thuzad: "So, I was right! There is indeed way to reach Genn Greymane from this region! Yes! There is nothing that can prevent us from catching up to their king and killing him! We will destroy everything upon our path! None shall survive our onslaught! The downfall of Gilneas draws near!"

Gorerot: "Rend and tear weak Gilneans! Crush villages! They no run! They no hide! They no win!"

Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot lead their undead warriors on assaulting the Emberstone Village. A fierce battle occurs as the Scourge forces clash against the Gilnean troops in the small town. The defenses in the Emberstone Village are not as strong as the other previous major settlements of Gilneas. The soldiers are not many, and there are only a few military structures built in the little residential town. With the combined strength and powers of Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot, the undead forces are able to overwhelm the Gilnean defenses quite easily. After a short yet fierce battle, the Emberstone Village falls as it has been destroyed by the Scourge. Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot conquer the little town with slight challenge as they only lost light numbers of undead warriors in the battle. As the village falls to ruins, the Gilnean soldiers lay dead with the captain muttering his last words on his dying breath. Two defenseless human miners have just come out from the Emberstone Mine just as the battle on the village had ended. The undead forces have immediately captured the two surviving coal miners.

Captain: "Damn all you…undead bastards! So… many lives… you took! So much… destruction!"

Kel'Thuzad: "All of Gilneas shall fall, human. Your entire kingdom will be ours. The Scourge will consume your nation. There is nothing that any of you can do to stop us, not even your great king!"

Captain: "Fool! You shall… never reach… King Genn! You cannot… enter the Tempest's Reach!"

Kel'Thuzad: "Not enter the town, eh? I suppose they have some form of special defenses in there."

Gorerot: "We found puny humans from cave! Weak coal miners! We slay and feast on their flesh!"

Miner: "Aaah! The undead! The whole town has been sacked! Mercy, milord!"

Kel'Thuzad: "Wait, Gorerot! Do not slaughter these humans! They can be useful to us! These coal miners are task at working on the mines to deliver some coal that they gather to other villages. The soldier told us that we could not easily enter the town where Genn Greymane had run into. I wonder what sort of defense they built upon that town. These miners might be able to serve our cause once we reach Tempest's Reach. Steal their minds! Take over their bodies! We shall move to the south!"

The banshees of the Scourge possess the bodies of the two human miners and completely take over their minds. The miners are now under the commands of Kel'Thuzad. Coming out of the destroyed village of Emberstone, the Scourge follow the path onto the southeast. Moving through wilderness, the undead forces encounter several neutral hostile beasts such as murlocs that are encamped upon the eastern coasts as well as a group of gnolls that are residing atop a hill cliff. The undead warriors eventually reach the outskirts of the town of Tempest' Reach. The entrance to the village is through a sealed iron gate in the narrow road between two hill cliffs. Several defensive fortified towers are built upon the cliffs and a group of dwarven riflemen and mortar teams are also vigilantly watching over the entrance way. Kel'Thuzad thinks of a wise plan for them to enter Tempest's Reach safely.

Kel'Thuzad: "Ah, it seems we have made it to Tempest's Reach. So, the words of the captain from Emberstone are true, the entrance to the town is heavily guarded. The gate is sealed, and we would all be bombarded by their towers and support teams. The passageway is a deathtrap, but fortunately for us, we have a way to infiltrate their town. We have smashed their great walls, and brought their Capital City down, a petty little guarded gate like this shall certainly not protect them from us now! Come forth, human miners! You two shall be the key for us to enter the village. We will be instantly attacked if we go near the gate, but they will not suspect you two and they will let you inside. Once you are inside, you both must find a way to open the gates from within and weaken their defenses!"

Miner (Possessed): "Yes, Lord Kel'Thuzad. We will follow your orders. We will do what we can."

Kel'Thuzad: "Very well. Now, we only have to make your entrance convincing for the defenders."

The two human miners from Emberstone Village that have been possessed by the banshees are the ones that will unsuspectingly enter and find a way to open the entrance gate. To make their coming appear more natural to the troops, Kel'Thuzad sends four ghouls to chase the two possessed miners to the sealed gate, willingly sacrificing the ghouls to be shot down by the defenders in order to let the possessed miners go through. The two miners quickly head towards the gate, and not long after, the ghouls chase them behind as if they were to kill and devour them. The defenders upon the hills immediately notice the incoming human miners being chase by the ghouls towards their gate. The dwarven defenders and towers immediately shoot the ghouls to slay them. The sealed iron gate has also been opened by the guards to let the possessed miners to enter just as Kel'Thuzad had planned. The guards close the gates once more, and the miners are now within the town of Tempest's Reach. Kel'Thuzad is pleased to see his brilliant plan worked. With the banshees taking control inside the bodies of the miners, Kel'Thuzad is able to sense their every move even from outside of the village.

Riflemen: "The damned undead have made it to the entrance! They are chasing those poor villagers of Emberstone! Quickly, blast all those ghouls to bits! Open the gates, and let those men go inside!"

Footmen: "Get inside quickly, men! You two will be safe here! The undead will never get in here."

Miner 1 (Possessed): "We are finally inside the town. The plan of Master Kel'Thuzad has worked."

Miner 2 (Possessed): "Yes. Now, we must find a way for the gate to be permanently open, and let them all inside. We shall also look for a way to destroy their cliff defenses along the entry passage."

Miner 1 (Possessed): "I see there are many explosive barrels in this town. Perhaps we can get some and quietly put it upon major buildings including their fortified towers at the cliffs. Once the bombs explode, their defenses will be weakened, and we can open the gate while they become distracted."

The two possessed miners quickly move around the town to collect some barrels of explosives that are scattered throughout the village. The Tempest's Reach is larger and has stronger defenses than the Emberstone Village. Aside from the tower and soldier defenses on the hill cliffs by the entrance gate, a military outpost is built in the residential town, and a large squad of Gilnean soldiers protect the entire village. As the possessed miners gather the explosives, they arrive upon the other end of town and finally found Genn Greymane who is conducting his mass evacuation for the defenseless villagers. Being escorted by the army of Genn, the townsfolk are going to the south, and are moving along the road by the southeastern cliffs. The knight that rode from Emberstone Village has warned King Genn Greymane in advance about the recent arrival of the undead on the Emberstone Village. Genn speaks with his lieutenant Darius, his son Liam, and his daughter Tess while overseeing the evacuation of the villagers. The possessed miners quietly listen to the words of the Gilnean leaders.

Knight: "I doubt that our village could survive against the undead, sire. I rode as fast as I could to warn you. No doubt the Scourge are trying to reach this town as well in order to get you, my king."

Genn: "You did well, soldier. If only your comrades could have fled to this village as well. Curses! The Scourge have already taken over the Capital, and they will not stop until all of our lands fall!"

Liam: "Father, can we even end this nightmare?! Is there any hope for us to defeat them and liberate our land? We cannot keep running from them! Many of our soldiers and countrymen already died!"

Genn: "We are doing the best we can, son. Yes, we have already lost too much of our lands, of our people! This is why I am trying to save as much lives of our people that I can. This is why I ordered the mass evacuation all the way to the port town of Duskhaven. I will not take any chance of losing much more of our people, at the same time, we will continue fighting for what we can still defend!"

Tess: "I shall personally ensure that the evacuees reach the port town of Duskhaven safely, father."

Genn: "I know you will, my daughter. I feel relieved knowing that all their lives are in your hands."

Darius: "You made a wise choice of evacuating the folks, sire. With the town of Emberstone being attacked recently, the undead would try to attack us here as well. We built the strong defenses upon the entrance, but we are not certain if that can hold the Scourge back. Regardless, the rest of us in the army will stand and fight alongside you upon defending all that is left of our lands, King Genn."

Genn: "I am by pleased by your continuous valor and loyalty for me, my family, and for our nation, Darius. We will fight for Gilneas! We will not give up so easily to those undead monsters, Darius!"

Liam: "Father, allow me fight alongside you this time. If the undead strike again, I will not sit idly while you and the rest of our army bleed to defend our kingdom! As prince, I will fight for Gilneas! I too am a warrior, father! You raised me to become a protector for this country, and so I shall be!"

Genn: "Very well then, my son. When the undead armies attack us again, you shall stand and fight by me to defend our lands and people! I shall be honored to have you by my side against those vile Scourge invaders, Liam. I can see that you will be a strong, brave, and wise king one day, son. But I must tell you, we shall not be waiting here. The defenses of town are not strong, we all must head for Stormglen Village. We can fortify our fortress there, and build strong defenses. We cannot last against the vast undead if we stay in this village. The citizens shall be brought to Duskhaven, while the rest of us shall go to Stormglen. We should move along as well. Call upon our soldiers, Darius."

Darius: "Very well, my king. A wise decision indeed. We would have better defenses at Stormglen. All of you, men! Move out! The king has ordered us to move to Stormglen Village! Move quickly!"

Liam: "I will help you in setting up our defenses at Stormglen, father. We must secure the fortress."

Tess: "Father, once I bring the refugees to Duskhaven, I shall also order our workers to build strong fortified defenses on the port town. I will secure the lives of all our people that will evacuate there."

Genn: "Very well, Tess. I know that you shall never let anything happen to our people. Liam, Tess; I am proud and fortunate in having you two as my children. My line lays secure upon both of you."

Genn, Darius, Liam, and Tess move out of Tempest's Reach and run through the southern cliffside road as well. Genn, Darius, and Liam lead most of the soldiers towards the Stormglen Village, and Tess leads the evacuating villagers to the distant port village of Duskhaven. The Stormglen Village is located to the south of the Tempest's Reach across the southeastern cliffside bridge and near the edge of the dark Blackwald Forest. The port town of Duskhaven is much farther as it lies upon the southwestern coasts of Gilneas and near the Greymane Manor, house of the royal Greymane family by the western hills. As a form of extra safety precaution, Darius leaves some barrels of explosives atop the southeastern cliffside bridge that are all to be blown up to prevent the undead from directly following them towards the Stormglen Village if they somehow manage to get to Tempest's Reach.

Back at the Tempest's Reach, the possessed miners finish gathering their barrels of explosives and discreetly planted them on the defensive towers by the hill cliffs and some major military structures around the village. After a few minutes, the explosive barrels explode one by one, and blow up the buildings and towers. The soldiers that remained in the village were all surprised and distracted by the sudden loud explosions. As the soldiers run in confusion by the chaos, the two possessed miners pull and destroy the lever that opens the entry gate for the town. Upon seeing the sudden explosions of the cliff towers and opening of the gates, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot realize the moment they have been waiting has come as they lead their undead forces to quickly charge against Tempest's Reach. The possessed miners completed their task and are pleased to have serve their purpose as they are immediately slain by the Gilnean troops after realizing that they are the ones who caused the chaos.

Footman: "What the?! What is going on here?! Our town is burning! The buildings are blown up!"

Miner 1 (Possessed): "We did it! Now is our chance to open their gate, and let our masters get in."

Knight: "What?! What are those two there doing?! They have opened the gate! Wait! They are the ones who blown up our camp! I saw them collecting some explosive barrels before! They did this!"

Footman: "No! Traitors! Kill them both! The undead forces will now be able to get into our town!"

Kel'Thuzad: "At long last, our plan has succeeded! Their defenses are ruined and the gate is widely open! Quickly, my warriors! The time has come to get into the village and destroy all our enemies!"

Gorerot: "No more waiting! We slay and feast on weak Gilneans again! We go rend and tear now!"

Knight: "The undead warriors are here! They were waiting for this! Defend yourselves everyone!"

Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot lead their undead warriors to charge towards the Tempest's Reach village. The Gilnean soldiers on the village have slain the possessed miners after they opened the gate. The undead forces have finally got into the village and fierce clash against the Gilnean soldiers. Despite the explosion of the cliff towers and several other critical structures, the village still has some form of established defenses. There are a few scattered towers around the town and there are also several hidden planted landmines throughout Tempest's Reach. However, due to the strength and skills of Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot, the Scourge forces are able to overwhelm the already weakened defenses of the Gilneans. After a while of fierce battle, the undead warriors eventually destroy the Tempest's Reach. Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot raze another Gilnean town whilst losing considerable numbers of undead warriors in the battle. As the whole village burns, a few surviving Gilnean soldiers run off to escape from the undead by going through the southern cliffside road towards Stormglen Village. As the soldiers move across the southeastern cliffside bridge, a rifleman shoots one of the explosive barrels placed atop the bridge by Darius, and causes all the bombs to explode and shatter the bridge.

Footman: "We cannot hold them back here! Quickly, men! Retreat! We must run for the south and follow the others on the Stormglen Village! Hurry! We must go to King Genn quickly! Move out!"

Kel'Thuzad: "As I suspected, Genn and his lapdogs are no longer here. They must have once again run into their other remaining holdouts. There is not much left of their own lands for them to hide."

Rifleman: "Time to go! We will blow up the bridge behind us, and prevent them from chasing us!"

Kel'Thuzad: "Damn it! No! They destroyed the bridge once again! These clever humans are vexing me greatly! No matter. We shall just once again find another way to reach them wherever they run. We made it this far, and we will finish it to their end. They cannot outrun their inevitable downfall."

Gorerot: "How we go find old weak king? Smart puny Gilneans blow big bridge! We no cross it!"

Kel'Thuzad: "We shall find a detour, Gorerot. Hmm, it seems that this dark forest below this town could lead us to the south. Yes. We could indeed go through these woods towards the other bastions of the Gilneans on the south! Let us move, my warriors! Time to continue our pursuit and conquest! We shall follow the Gilneans by the woods below! Let none stop us from completing our mission!"

The Scourge forces are successful in infiltrating and conquering the town of Tempest's Reach, but are unable to follow the few surviving Gilnean troops to Stormglen Village at the south. Given the destruction of the southeastern cliffside bridge, Kel'Thuzad thinks of another way on reaching the Stormglen Village where King Genn and his standing army have run into. Standing upon the ruined town of Tempest's Reach, the undead forces overlook a dark dense forest directly on the southwest. The dark thick forest is called the Blackwald, and it is the home of many various wild beasts. Upon looking over the Blackwald atop the edge of the cliff at Tempest's Reach, Kel'Thuzad forms up a new plan for him and his undead warriors to go to the south through the dark forest. Coming from the ruined village of Tempest's Reach, the Scourge forces head down through a long hill slope and directly land upon the northeastern border of the Blackwald. Arriving at the edge of the dark forest, Kel'Thuzad found a vacant goldmine where he orders the establishment of their new camp near it.

Kel'Thuzad: "We have finally made it down upon this forest. Look there, a goldmine. It would be wise to create our own base and muster our warriors first before we march through these woods. I sense strong and dangerous foes lurking around. I see why the Gilneans would avoid going by this forest and would rather go around by the bridge at the steep cliffside to get into the south. We shall gather our strength and assemble our forces before we move out and search for Stormglen Village."

The Blackwald is a dark thick forest located at the southern region of Gilneas. Most citizens of the nation tend to avoid venturing the forest as it is the home of many wild dangerous beasts, and it is also haunted by wandering restless spirits. The entire forest of Blackwald is larger than the Capital City of Gilneas. The Scourge construct a new camp with strong defense fortifications. Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot assemble a vast army of undead that consists of ghouls, plague eruptors, abominations, crypt fiends, necromancers, and banshees. After mustering a full force of undead, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot lead their army to move out of their camp and venture the dark thick woods. As they move through the haunted and foggy wilderness, the undead forces encounter many neutral hostile beasts around the forest such as sasquatches, wolves, and spiders. The undead forces also encounter some restless undead spirits in the form of wraiths and ghosts, which are outside the controls of the Lich King and are not part of the Scourge. Heading due south, the Scourge forces eventually reach their destination as they finally found the Stormglen Village where King Genn and his army are staying.

Kel'Thuzad: "Yes! We have finally found their fortress! We have reached the Stormglen Village!"

Liam: "Father, the undead forces have arrived! They found our village! We must brace ourselves!"

Genn: "These vile undead are truly persistent! When the soldiers from Tempest's Reach told us of how the undead managed to get inside their town, I knew those rotting monsters would find another way to get here! No matter! We have completed all the preparations for our defenses on this town!"

Darius: "So the undead got here as they even managed to pass through these dark haunted woods!"

Genn: "I am not even surprised by that. Even the beasts and spirits that reside in this forest pale in comparison to the evil of the Scourge! They are the real threat here that we must finally deal with!"

Kel'Thuzad: "King Genn Greymane, we meet again. It has been a long and amusing hunt, but now, you finally decided to show up. I was actually thinking that you had turned into a coward. Running and hiding from one town to another, and leaving your men behind to die just to cover your tracks."

Liam: "How dare you, foul undead! You invaded our lands, and slaughter our people! You brought death and ruin upon our kingdom! Enough! We shall put an end to your evil here once and for all!"

Kel'Thuzad: "So, this is your son, Genn. The young noble prince, Liam Greymane. Somehow this takes me back. You remind of another former prince who was once a strong and noble defender of his people. Yes. I can see a resemblance, Prince Liam. And he is now our master as the Lich King!"

Genn: "Do not even compare my son with that murderous traitorous spoiled brat Arthas, foul lich! I have had enough of your filth, Kel'Thuzad! You destroyed our kingdom, and spit upon the honor of my family! Enough is enough! We shall make our stand here, lich! We knew you would find a way to reach us here, and so we prepared for your coming! You shall do no further harm upon our people and our kingdom! We shall avenge all of the people you slain, and end your vile existence!"

Kel'Thuzad: "Truly pathetic and amusing of you, old king. After all that you have suffered out of your losses, you still maintain your ridiculous hollow bravado. You still foolishly believe that you could beat us. By the end of this battle, you shall all die, and the Scourge shall consume your entire kingdom. There is little left power from your nation that you could throw at us. We shall bring you kingdom down in the name of the Lich King! This is the end for all of you! Victory to the Scourge!"

Gorerot: "Old weak king no win! We kill you all! Rend your flesh to pieces! Burn kingdom down!"

Genn: "I shall see to it that you die by my sword, Kel'Thuzad, and you as well, you big ugly rotting oaf! Liam, Darius; the time has come for us to purge these foul monsters and restore our kingdom!"

Liam: "Noble soldiers of Gilneas, stand your ground as we fight and save our nation! For Gilneas!"

At that moment, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot lead their undead army upon launching a fierce attack at the Stormglen Village. A massive war battle occurs as the Scourge forces clash against the Gilnean soldiers. King Genn Greymane, Prince Liam Greymane, and Lord Darius Crowley lead their troops in defense of their fortress. The Gilnean army consists of footmen, knights, dwarven riflemen, and dwarven mortar teams. The entire Stormglen Village has been turned into a one formidable miliary citadel for Genn and his standing forces. Built with many defensive towers and military structures, the defenses of Stormglen Village are nearly strong as the defenses on the Capital City. Like in the previous settlements in Gilneas, Genn Greymane placed many hidden landmines around the village of Stormglen as additional defenses on his fortress. Genn, Liam, and Darius made all the necessary preparations for their last stand against the undead that have already conquered much of their lands.

The residential houses on Stormglen Village are empty as all the defenseless citizens had evacuated to the port town of Duskhaven with the rest of the evacuees from the other ruined villages. Princess Tess watches over Duskhaven while her father and older brother fight the Scourge upon Stormglen. Liam Greymane is a young man for he is just the same age as Arthas Menethil. Having been trained in combat and swordsmanship, Liam grew into a strong skilled warrior as he became a battlemaster just like his father. King Genn and Prince Liam, along with their lieutenant captain Darius, bravely fight and uses their deadly combat skills against the undead forces. The Gilnean soldiers fight hard and well as they follow the strong leaderships and abilities of their noble king and prince. With the warrior skills of the father and son Greymane, they are able to fight effectively against the Scourge.

Genn: "Do not give up, men! Slay these foul undead! Make them pay for what they did to Gilneas!"

Liam: "Fight for our fallen comrades and our ruined lands! Show them true strength of our nation!"

On the other hand, the undead forces push their attack hard to destroy the whole Stormglen Village. Both Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot use their strength and dark powers in fighting the Gilnean defenders. The Lich constantly uses his Frost Nova and Frost Armor spells, and he also uses his most powerful necromantic magic of Death and Decay. The hulking Flesh Beast fights with his own great strength and uses his foul toxic plague-based abilities against the Gilnean army. Despite the strong defenses of the Gilneans in the Stormglen Village, the Scourge have the advantage as they are able to bolster their forces. The necromancers can raise various fallen troops into skeleton warriors, and banshees can possess the strong enemy Gilnean troops. Given their numbers advantage in the war battle, the Scourge forces are able to push through the tough defenses in Stormglen Village by heavy attrition.

Kel'Thuzad: "The end is near for all of you! Death is upon your kingdom! Gilneas shall soon fall!"

Despite the formidable defenses of the Gilnean army on Stormglen Village, the undead forces have the upper hand on the battle. The scales turn in the favor of the Scourge as they press their relentless assault with their numbers advantage by raising corpses on the battlefield. Genn, Liam, and Darius are still fighting to lead their surviving troops against the undead invaders, but they are losing their momentum as the Scourge forces are overcoming their defenses on the village. It did not take long before the formidable defenses on the Stormglen Village are breach by the undead as many Gilnean soldiers have been slain and many fortified structures have been razed. Genn has also been gravely wounded by Kel'Thuzad at the peak of the battle. Liam and Darius brought Genn to a safe area to briefly rest and recover his strength. There are several warriors assigned by Darius to defend Genn while he is recovering with the rest of their remaining troops continue in fighting the undead forces.

Genn: "Urrgh! This damned wound! To hell with the Scourge! There is no end to their nightmare!"

Liam: "Father! You are gravely injured! You must rest here for now! We shall handle the undead!"

Genn: "No, son! Your fight in here is over! We cannot defeat them. This village is lost. We did all we could do, but it is hopeless. I must ask of you now to leave us upon this place and save yourself."

Liam: "What are you saying, father?! You are asking me to abandon this fight?! To abandon you?!"

Genn: "There is no sense in all of us dying here, Liam. After they kill us, they will go to Duskhaven and finish the rest of our people including your sister! I will never allow that! No king should allow his nation be utterly wiped out! No parent should let their children die with them on a losing war!"

Liam: "But I cannot just leave you behind, father! Everything you say is true, but if I am to escape, then you must also come with me! Both of you should, and all the soldiers that we could still save!"

Genn: "I will not go anywhere, son. As king, I will fight for Gilneas to the end. But you cannot die here now. It is not your time to fall, son. You and your sister are my life and the hope of our nation. Liam, you are the future of Gilneas for you will succeed me as the next king. The fate of our people shall rest upon you! Go now, Liam! Tell your sister everything. Please. Move as quick as you can!"

Darius: "Yes, you must go, Prince Liam. I too will stand by your father and fight to my last breath."

Liam: "But father, Lord Darius! I… I understand. If this is what you wish, then… I shall honor it. Your choice is already made. I hate to do what you told me, but I will do it for our nation. You are right, father. If we all fall here, then so shall the rest of our people. I shall return to Duskhaven and tell Tess everything. I shall tell our people to sail to our outposts in Zul'dare on the Channel Islands. They will be safe there and far from the undead. I shall do this for you, father! To save our nation!"

Genn: "Very well, son. It is a wise decision. I know that you will protect and lead them all well. I could not ask for a better heir. Farewell, son. Tell your sister that I am proud of having both of you as my children. Go now, Liam. Take these men with you to Duskhaven. Go save our people, son."

Darius: "And Prince Liam, before you go, I also have one favor to ask of you. My daughter, Lorna, please take care of her. She is also at Duskhaven, protecting and standing by the side of your sister. As I will stay and die here alongside your father, I no longer have a chance to see her one last time. Tell Lorna everything, and kindly look after her. I trust no other man to be with Lorna, my prince."

Liam: "Yes, Lord Darius. I swear that I never let anything happen to Lorna. I will tell her how you gave your life defending our lands as a noble hero and general. And father, I will do everything in my strength to save our people and lead them to a better future. I swear that one day, I shall reclaim these lands! Gilneas shall rise again by your honor, father, and by all those who died defending it! Farewell, father-Lord Darius. I swear that we will avenge you all and defeat the Scourge one day."

At that moment, Liam and several other troops hurriedly escape Stormglen Village through a secret passage that leads to the path at nearby hills in the west that would lead to Duskhaven Village upon the other side. Though unwilling and disheartened to be forced to leave his father, King Genn, and Lord Darius behind, Prince Liam follows their decision as he honors their bravery and sacrifice in order for him to save the rest of their surviving people on Duskhaven by evacuating them to safety. Liam intends to tell his sister, Tess, and the daughter of Darius, Lorna, about the noble choices of their brave fathers on making their heroic sacrifices on fighting the undead. With the plans of Liam to evacuate their people in the isle of Zul'dare, Genn Greymane is pleased that his nation will have a chance to survive under the leadership of his son who will replace him as the king. Upon ensuring the safe escape of Liam to the wilderness, Genn turns his attention back on the Scourge forces that have nearly conquered the Stormglen Village. Despite barely being able to recover, Genn prepares himself to fight once more alongside his lieutenant Darius for a last stand against the undead forces. Genn rallies his remaining troops at Stormglen and leads them for the final time against the undead.

Darius: "And there he goes, my king. It is up to your son to uphold your crown and save our people. I put my faith in him that he would take care of Lorna for I know no other man that is more worthy."

Genn: "My son would do anything for your daughter, old friend. Had we not been in this grim fate, we would have lived long enough to see the glorious day that Liam ascends as I pass my crown to him, and he would ask for the hand of Lorna to be his wife and queen, but that is no longer possible, and I blame myself for it. I spent the past years having our nation be hidden behind a wall, believing it will protect us from the troubles of the outside. I was wrong. My arrogance and selfishness have caused us our kingdom. I turned my back on the other nations when they needed aid as they fell to these undead. If only I did something to help, we could have defeated this evil just as we did to the orcs long ago, and this would have never happened. It is too late for regrets now. Let this last battle be my atonement for the other fallen Alliance kingdoms, for Terenas, and for all our slain people!"

King Genn and Darius once again join their soldiers in the battle against the undead. Despite their falling defenses and dire losing situation, the old king and his standing troops fight desperately as they give all that they have left against the Scourge. Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot continue to lead their undead warriors, and it did not take long until they defeated the Gilnean forces. After a long heavy gruesome battle, Kel'Thuzad and Gorerot eventually succeed on conquering the Stormglen Village despite losing heavy numbers of undead warriors on the battle. The entire town has been destroyed by the Scourge forces with all of its structures burnt to ruins. All of the Gilnean soldiers have been killed including Darius Crowley with only King Genn Greymane left standing bloody, defenseless, defeated, and upon the verge of his death. The old king mutter his last words with his dying breath.

Kel'Thuzad: "At last, it is over for you, old king. Your nation is finished, and your lands are ours."

Genn: "Mark my words… lich! One day, you will all… be destroyed! One day, the Scourge… will be defeated! My kingdom… will rise again! I may die now… but this war… shall not… end here!"

Kel'Thuzad: "Yes, it shall not end here! This is only the beginning of the reign of the damned over this world! We have done it, Gorerot! We have destroyed their bastion! We have finally slain Genn Greymane and his servants! At last, the kingdom of Gilneas has fallen to the Scourge! These lands are all now ours! What little remains of their people shall not defeat us and retake their own lands!"

Gorerot: "Old weak king dead! We crush kingdom! We take lands! Now, feast on flesh and bones!"

Kel'Thuzad: "None can stop the Scourge from dominating this world! The might of the Lich King is unmatched, and our forces are strong! Glory to the Lich King! This victory goes to the Scourge!"

The war and conquest of the kingdom of Gilneas is finished as it has fallen to the Scourge just like the kingdom of Stromgarde at the far east. The ruined Capital City and the various destroyed towns around the Gilnean peninsula are now under the control of the undead. The Lich Kel'Thuzad plans to return to his fortress on the ruined elven capital of Silvermoon in Quel'thalas carrying pride and glory by their victory over Gilneas. The Flesh Beast Gorerot remains on the ruined Gilnean Capital City to watch over the fallen lands. The Lich King Arthas is once again pleased with his lieutenants as he senses the great victory of the Scourge over Gilneas just like with Stromgarde recently before. The Scourge forces in Lordaeron have completed their task of conquest to the Lich King as Gilneas joins Stromgarde, Lordaeron, Dalaran, and Quel'thalas in the kingdoms that fell before the undead.

Lich King: "Yes! You have done well, my servants! I knew you would serve me well, Kel'Thuzad! The kingdom of Gilneas is ruined! The only remaining human nations on Lordaeron are now gone! None can defeat our strength and dominance! My wrath is unending! The Scourge is unstoppable!"
