Chapter Text
"Shit," Luz muttered under her breath, tying her shoe as fast as she could. It was currently 8:26, school started at 8:30, and Luz had woken up at 8:15.
She rushed to the bathroom and quickly brushed her teeth and ran her fingers through her short hair, going back to her room to grab her bag. She tossed it over her shoulder and walked to the kitchen, grabbing a breakfast bar on her way out. She flopped in her car and turned it on, pulling the shift into reverse before-
"Fuck! The poster!"
Luz pushed her car door open and sprinted through the house to her room, grabbing the sign and running back outside. She threw it in the backseat before throwing her car into drive.
Thankfully, school was only a 2 minute drive from her house. However, just Luz's luck, the cloudy sky began to sprinkle as she pulled out of her driveway, and by the time she was on the main road, it was pouring.
"God dammit," She muttered.
Luz pulled into the school parking lot, turning off her car and just sitting there. She looked back at the poster, then out toward the rain.
"Fuck it,"
Luz pushed her car door open, climbing out into the pouring rain. She slammed it shut as she jogged to the school doors. She ran a hand through her hair before opening the door, freezing as she walked in.
Both middle and high school classes were huddled into a group in the cafeteria, everyone silently staring at Luz. She slowly walked in, confusion plastered on her face.
"What's going on?" She asked hesitantly.
"Boscha's gonna beat your ass," Some dude in the high school class replied.
Luz raised her eyebrow at him.
"What?-"
"Noceda!"
Luz's blood ran cold as she heard the shrill call from down the hallway. Everyone took a step back, some pulling their phones out. Boscha emerged from down the hallway, storming straight toward the Latina.
Luz tossed her bag to the side, bracing herself for impact. Boscha pushed Luz's chest, knocking her back into the door. A wave of 'ooooh's' rushed over the crowd.
"What the fuck?" Luz exclaimed, shoving Boscha back.
The crowd erupted again, watching as the two girls stood face to face.
"What's your problem?" Luz asked, taking a small step back.
"My problem?" Boscha snapped. "Don't play dumb."
She swung her fist toward Luz's face, missing as she leaned back. Luz's confused demeanor was quickly erased, as she swung at Boscha. She hit the pinkette square in the nose, The audience behind them letting out another chorus of reaction. Boscha brought her hand up to her nose, pulling it away to look at the blood.
"You motherf-"
"Boscha, what the fuck!?"
Everyone in the room turned to the hallway, where Amity was jogging toward the scene. Amity reached the two, and for a second, it seemed as if she was going to wipe Boscha's nose and leave Luz to rot, however she walked right past her, putting a protective arm out in front of Luz.
"I've done more than put up with your shit for the past three years, Boscha. I tolerated it. I pretended to agree with you. I'd make up lies about people because that's all you ever wanted to talk about. But I am so fucking tired. I'm tired of pretending to be someone I'm not, all for the sake of status. You're a bitch. You are quite literally the worst person I have ever met," Amity said, slowly stepping towards Boscha. "Your only humor is making fun of how other people's bodies are, which isn't fucking funny. You constantly take out your own insecurities on literal ten year olds, and you can never keep your mouth shut."
The room went dead silent, cameras recording, people with hands over their mouths, and Amity and Boscha nose to nose.
"You can't even defend yourself because you know it's true and no one is on your side. No one has ever been on your side, because you are unlikable. You might possibly be, the most hated person in Gravesfield," Amity continued.
Boscha remained silent, her cheeks flushed and her lip quivered. She'd been called out.
"And, Luz," Amity turned around and took in a shaky breath. "Do you wanna go to prom with me?"
Luz's lips curled into a grin. Boscha's jaw hung open. The crowd behind them waited in suspense.
"Fuck yes!" Luz exclaimed, pumping her first in the air.
The group of kids erupted into cheers, knocking Boscha out of the way to reach the two. Amity's smile grew wide, and she wrapped her arms around Luz's neck, pulling her into a kiss.
The cheering got louder as people stuck their phones through the crowd, trying to get a good angle for Instagram. The girls pulled apart, giggling and flustered.
Boscha stood behind the crowd, flaring her arms in disbelief. Everyone quieted down as they heard her name called down the same hallway Amity came from.
"Boscha!" The deep voice boomed.
The color left her face immediately as the principal entered the cafeteria. Everyone watched as he walked right up to her, grabbing her by the arm.
"This is your sixth warning this quarter! Not even this year, or this semester! In the past eight weeks, you have beat up four kids, set the bathroom trashcan on fire, gratified your teacher's car, and here you are again. It is non-stop with you, and I'm afraid I have no other choice but to expel you,"
Boscha's jaw fell open again as she turned to look at the crowd around her. She made eye contact with Amity, who had a stern look on her face.
"Seriously? I hope you know you're losing your smartest and best volleyball player!" She argued back, throwing her hands up and walking away from the crowd.
A few snickers scattered through the cafeteria as they watched the pinkette awkwardly drag everything out of her locker and storm off toward the office. The principal stood with his hands on his hips, puffing his chest out like a super hero.
"Okay, get to class," He grumbled before slugging back toward the office.
The crowd's interest fell immediately as they all walked to grab their books and head to class. Luz and Amity stayed in their spot by the door.
Amity reached down for Luz's hand, inspecting her bloody knuckles.
"Is this your blood or Boscha's?" She asked.
"Probably both," Luz replied.
"Cute,"
Amity led Luz to the bathroom and dabbed at her hand with a damp towel. They sat in silence for a bit.
"We have a lot to talk about," Amity said finally.
"Yeah," Luz agreed.
They met each others eyes, and for the first time in a long time, Luz felt like somebody. Like she had a purpose. Like maybe for once, everything wouldn't go to waste.
"But it can wait,"
