Recap of Suzuka Japanese Grand Prix

Kawamura Ritsuko | October XX, XXXX

On to Super GT:

Belsorriso is once again on the podium with Tokumaru Toshiki crossing the finish line second this year in the feature race. His team mate Harunaga Satsuki came in 5th. Even so, Belsorriso maintains their first place position as a team with two races to go for the season.

And in breaking news, crushing the hearts of fans everywhere: renowned bachelor Harunaga Satsuki is off the market! He was found with long-time teammate Tokumaru Toshiki in a state of undress in the paddock after their race before media duties. Neither were available for comment at that moment, but Harunaga made sure to give the camera his signature grin before closing the door to the room. Find pictures of their affair here.

Ena Kyousuke, owner of Belsorriso Motorsports, commented “it doesn’t matter to me what they do outside of the car as long as they’re successful in it. And today, they were successful as they have been for the past years. Happy drivers are good drivers, in my books.”

Post-Race Interview with Tokumaru Toshiki

Interview in Media Pen with Hiroki Sho, Motorsports Digest

Hiroki Sho: Hiroki Sho, Motorsports Digest. Firstly, congratulations on your podium finish. You had a wonderful race, making up so much ground after your qualifying issues. How do you feel?

Tokumaru Toshiki:  I am honored to have had the opportunity to race here and it was great racing in front of such a large crowd. Many of the fans are here for the Formula 1 race, but hopefully we showed them the delights of other series as well. I would also like to thank the team here and back at the garage.

Hiroki Sho: Thank you for your response. We just heard from our friends behind the scenes that you and teammate Harunaga Satsuki are closer than most teammates. Could you comment on your relationship with him?

Tokumaru Toshiki: We have been teammates since we were teenagers in F4. In my opinion, it would be more surprising were we not close.

Hiroki Sho: To clarify, I’m referring to your romantic relationship with Harunaga-san. How is it being in a relationship with someone you’re frequently competing with.

Tokumaru Toshiki: As teammates, we worked closely with one another. As we raced with and against each other, we grew to develop a partnership on and off the track. Nothing has changed recently, and I hope that our personal affairs remain as they are.

[Tokumaru turns to leave]

Hiroki Sho: One last question before you go. Are you supporting anyone in the F1 race?

Tokumaru Toshiki: No one in particular, but if I had to pick perhaps, Mr. Chicane, Asahina Haruka to all of you. He's quite a good driver nowadays, and our team tries to watch all his races. He's a former Belsorriso member, after all.

Notes:

Well, I don't know much about Super GT but I do know far more about F1. I picked Suzuka as the race location as historically, and in the future at least through 2029, it's going to be the site of the F1 Japanese Grand Prix. Worldwide, F1 is generally the most popular motorsports series, so I figured it'd be amusing that the relationship was revealed on a day all eyes were on them. In-universe there's probably a whole lot of RPF popping up about them after this.

Suzuka of course was the site of Satsuki's accident in canon, which isn't too surprising with context. They were racing on slicks, in pouring rain, in one of the most technical circuits available (For an idea of what has happened on this track in the recent past irl, see Jules Bianchi). Something was going to happen, the only question was to whom.

I figured as a result, he'd be a bit more cautious on this track in particular, and decided to reflect that in the final placements. I also put Haruka in F1, because honestly, of the main cast, he's the only one who was young enough to make to F1. Satsuki perhaps, but given he'd likely need to spend a year in each of F3,F2, and F1 would put him at a bit too old for modern day F1 (most rookies are starting as teenagers nowadays). I figured Honda (maybe Toyota) sponsored him through the European feeder series', but given Honda has a works deal with previously Red Bull, currently Aston Martin it'd be more likely to be them. Perhaps some sponsor eyes fell on him after his victory in what was very likely not-optimal car and the magazine expose/series discussed in the final episode. Motorsports is very expensive especially at higher level, so like you're not getting up to the highest echelons without either your own personal money, or many big, powerful sponsors. Given this is years after canon, I feel Toshiki and Haruki would likely get along due to their similar passions for racing.
