Work Text:
"And change!"
Hoseok shouted over the music blasting from the speakers. The group were currently choreographing a dance for their newest song. There was no release date yet, so they currently had an indefinite amount of time to work on everything.
Their feet glided over the floor in swift movements. Bodies swaying in time with the music. Every gesture was sharp and profound.
"Stop!"
Hoseok yelled. The music came to a halt and the boys all killed over on the floor. Like usual, Hoseok had noticed a mistake made by Taehyung and Jungkook, who accidentally bumped into each other.
"We'll resume in five minutes." Hoseok then said, making everyone jump up, going to grab their water and chugging it down like madmen. This whole session had been intense, like it usually was, but it certainly took a toll them all right now.
They had their break, chatting and allowing themselves the spare time to simply relax as much as they could before they were all called back over to the middle of the room by Hoseok.
"So," Hoseok started, looking down at his watch. "We could go through it a couple more times?" Everyone groaned in response. There was no way they were going through the whole dance all over again. They'd already been here since noon and it was steadily approaching 5 o'clock. Honestly, food was the only thing on their minds.
Jimin stepped forward, raising his arm slightly. "I need to perfect my flip, can we work on that?" He asked, hoping it would be better to focus on this for a couple of minutes and then just go home and eat dinner.
After a moment of contemplating, Hoseok agreed. They got into their positions. Jungkook and Taehyung kneeled down opposite each other with everyone else in front, but Jimin behind. He was supposed to run up and use the two youngests legs as support to gain height and then front flip to join the members in front where there was a space waiting for him.
Taking a deep breath, Jimin ran and attempted the leap. The two younger ones remained as still as possible to prevent Jimin from not getting the supports that he needed to ensure everything went smoothly. Jimin perfected it, just like he usually did. He couldn't help but feel pride welling up inside his stomach. He always felt that way after completing a harder dance move; especially flips.
Successfully completing it the first time gave Jimin the confidence to keep going. Repeating it over and over, as many times as he and the others were comfortable with. "One more time?" Jimin asked, turning to his members. "Go for it." Namjoon agreed, getting back into position. So Jimin did. He went for it one last time.
But it wasn't quite as smooth as silk this time. Jimin jumped like he was supposed to, however, Jin had planted himself too close to Hoseok, so there was too little room for Jimin to land. Consequently, Jimin bumped into Jin mid-air and the entire flip turned into a disaster. He fell, rolling his ankle a complete 180 degrees.
Jimin cried out, clutching at his ankle. His members were by his side at the speed of light. "Shit, I'm so sorry, Jimin." Jin apologised, realising that this was completely his fault. His apology fell on deaf ears though as Jimin didn't respond, just tried to hold back the tears that continued to fall.
"I'll get the medic, it's probably a sprain." Yoongi ran off to provide them with medical assistance. The medics office wasn't far so it didn't take long before Jimin received some help.
Thankfully, it was just a sprain. The medic wrapped Jimin's foot up in a support bandage to help a little bit, but advised him that the main thing he would need was rest for the next few weeks. That news devastated Jimin. He couldn't think about resting up when they had a comeback on the way. "Won't it heal sooner?" He pouted.
The medic shook his head, standing up. "The pain might go away within a few days, but the sprain itself won't have healed for a while after." He explained. "I would strongly advise not getting back to dance for a few weeks unless you want to do more damage." With those final words, he left.
Jimin was far from happy, but there was little he could do about it. With a sigh he held his hand up, waiting for someone to help him stand. Yoongi got him back on his feet and it hurt. Really fucking hurt. He would have collapsed again if it weren't for Yoongi catching him. "Hey, I got you." He smiled, putting an arm around the injured boy's waist. The rapper had to practically carry Jimin out of the building
~~~~~~~~
"This okay for you?" Yoongi asked Jimin as he helped the boy down onto the couch. He had originally wanted to go to his room, but with his ankle, he couldn't handle the stairs no matter how much he wanted to. They settled for having Jimin sleep on the sofa, likely for the next few nights. Taehyung and Jungkook were getting his duvet and some pillows.
When the two youngest maknae's returned, they were holding more than just duvets and pillows. In Taehyung's hands was an array of games consoles. Jungkook covered Jimin up with the duvet he'd brought down and placed a pillow underneath his back as well as his foot whilst Taehyung plugged all of the equipment he'd brought down into the masterplug socket extension.
"What's all this for?" Hoseok raised an eyebrow at all of the games consoles. It felt a bit excessive, especially given they already had an Xbox and PlayStation plugged in by the TV.
Taehyung stood up, grabbing a box of controllers. "We thought it would be nice for Jimin. Take his mind off the injury." He explained, grinning and squeezing Jungkook close. The two boys had clearly wanted to make Jimin feel better and their actions certainly were admirable.
"Just make sure to unplug everything before you go to bed." Hoseok gestured towards the mess of wires that now surrounded the television stand. He then wandered off towards the kitchen.
The maknae line played games throughout the night. There was lots of screaming and shouting but laughter always ensued. Occasionally, one of the members of the hyung line would join them, ramping up the competitive nature of the younger ones. The shouting was at its peak when Jin decided to pick up a controller.
After a good few hours of switching between consoles and all the older members going to bed, the maknae line decided it was also time to head off. Jimin was slowly nodding off, so Taehyung and Jungkook were careful to move slowly as they made their way upstairs.
As the members drifted off to sleep, the plugs sparked.
~~~~~~~~
Yoongi was awoken by the muffled sounds of shouting behind his door. He sat up, rubbing his eyes while groaning. A sudden sharp feeling in his throat caused him to cough. Smoke was quickly filling his room.
He shot up like a bullet.
Without taking a moment to think about it, Yoongi rushed to his door and pulled the handle. Gathered in the hallway were his members. As was the distinct smell of burning. He glanced towards the stairs and saw how flames locking at the walls. The fire was spreading quickly.
"Hyung!" Jungkook ran forwards, hugging Yoongi tightly. The maknaes body heat was extremely high. "Jungkook..." The rapper wheezed, the smoke was already affecting his lungs deeply. "H-How did this happen?"
He turned away from the fire to look at his band mates, but all he was greeted with were sad faces. "I-I don't know." Taehyung croaked. Maybe someone had left something on in the kitchen? He didn't really know what else could have caused the fire to errupt.
Jungkook took out a crumpled up shirt from his pocket and handed it to Yoongi. "For the smoke hyung, you're going to need it." He said firmly. Yoongi took the shirt without question and pressed it against his face, giving a muffled thank you to Jungkook.
The fire cackled away fiercely. The boys knew they had to make a move. Looking around, Hoseok's room was the closest, and thankfully, it was right above the garage. "Come on!" Namjoon grabbed the hand nearest him, which happened to be Jin's. He dragged him over to the room, everyone else following suit. He opened up the window as wide as it would go, letting the smoke and escape and making it slightly easier to breathe. "Right, you first." He ordered, pushing Jin forward to the window.
"Wait, no." Jin protested. He stepped out of the way of the window. "The younger boys first."
Simultaneously, the hyung line turned to face the maknae line. Jungkook went bright red, he just wanted everyone to get out as quickly as possible, this was wasting time. Taehyung spoke up, "Jimin first, he's injured." He said firmly. He then turned to look behind him, but was met with a wall and no Jimin. That wasn't right.
"Where's Jimin?" Taehyung asked, looking back at the hyung line. "Who counted him in? Where is he?"
It took a moment before it clicked.
"Oh shit! He's downstairs!" Jin half yelled. He had completely forgotten that Jimin had injured his ankle and was sleeping downstairs because he couldn't handle much weight on his foot.
The whole room turned into a state of chaos and panic. Jimin was in the heart of the fire.
Not saying anything, Yoongi ran over to the stairs.
"Hyung wait!"
The rapper didn't wait. He got to the top of the stairs and looked down. The downstairs area was like a volcano. He could hardly see anything other than the smoke and flames. But Jimin was down there. He took a step down.
"Hyung." Taehyjng's voice came from right beside him, almost making him jump.
Yoongi glared at the 95-liner. "Tae, go back." He said sternly, pointing to Hoseok's room. He wanted the rest of his members to get out of the burning building while they still could. But Taehyung shook his head. "Are you kidding me? Jimin is down there." His voice practically broke. He couldn't leave knowing that there was still a chance he could save his soulmate.
Yoongi growled. There was no winning with this stubborn boy. He had no choice but to give in. "Fine." He huffed. "But you stick by my side, and you hold that cloth against your face tightly, you hear me?"
Taehyung nodded his head in understanding. Things were serious now. Yoongi took hold of the younger boys hand and carefully guided him downstairs.
The downstairs was so much worse than it looked. Smoke was everywhere. Literally everywhere. It was impossible to see a thing. Removing the cloths from their faces would probably kill them before it made them cough. Though, they were willing to make that sacrafice.
"J-Jimin!" Yoongi wheezed, removing the shirt from his face and calling out for the injured boy. He saw Taehyung about to do the same, but he held his wrist and prevented him.
They moved over to the couch where he knew Jimin last was, but the dancer wasn't there. "Damn." Yoongi cursed. Though he also had to be thankful Jimin had been able to get somewhere else, considering the fire was slowly consuming the couch.
"Yoongi, do you hear that?" Taehyung asked. Yoongi was about to condemn the boy for removing the cloth from his face, but then he heard it. Not too far away, the sound of a coughing boy. He pinpointed the noise coming from the other side of the room, just beyond the couch. Squinting, he spotted Jimin's figure between gaps in the smoke.
He rushed over, dragging Taehyung with him. Jimin was curled up against the wall, coughing his lungs out. His knees were drawn up to his chest.
"Jimin!" Taehyung cried, bending down beside his soulmate. He reached out to touch him, not caring how hot he was. "Oh my god..."
Yoongi knelt down too. His face twisted into a grimace. Seeing the boy like this was incredibly painful. Jimin looked up, a glimmer of hope in his eyes. "Tae... Yoongi hyung..." he croaked. His throat was so sore from all the smoke and he could hardly get any words out.
"Don't worry, we've got you..." Yoongi tried to smile for Jimin and let him know that things were going to be just fine. That they'd get out of this inferno.
Jimin coughed in response, sounding somehow worse than he did two seconds ago. The amount of smoke the poor boy inhaled must be reaching extremely dangerous levels. He looked moments away from passing out.
In that moment, Yoongi wished he had thought to bring another shirt for the dancer so that he could be more protected. But he hadn't done that. So instead, he removed the shirt covering his own mouth and held it firmly over Jimin's mouth and nose.
Jimin widened his eyes in silent protest of Yoongi's action, but he was too weak to do anything about it.
"Come on, we gotta get out of here." Taehyung bolted for the window behind them, but it wouldn't open. Jimin wanted to say that it was no use, that the key was missing. But he couldn't get a word out. Either way, Taehyung managed to figure it out, evident by when he stopped trying to rip the window from its hinges.
"Can't you smash it?" Yoongi asked, not moving or even looking away from Jimin.
"With what!?" Taehyung gestured to the inferno around them. He couldn't see a thing and he certainly wasn't going to search amongst the flames.
"Then..." Yoongi glanced worriedly at Jimin. "Our only option is back upstairs."
The boys could see the terror on Jimin's face as he realised that would mean having to walk on his ankle. Taehyung sympathised. "We should carry him." He said, wanting to make things easier. But to his dismay, Yoongi shook his head. "No. I can't do that and keep this over his mouth. Nor can you, we'd need both hands." The situation couldn't be more difficult.
With a heavy heart, Yoongi grabbed Jimin's arm whilst keeping his hand firmly over the boys mouth to ensure he wouldn't inhale any smoke, "I'm sorry about this, Chim."
He said softly. He then hoisted the boy up onto his feet, forcing him to put weight on his bad ankle. He let out a muffled whimper.
Taehyung and Yoongi wrapped an arm around Jimin's waist each, taking as much weight as they could for their bandmate. They started to move, making their way through the flames. Every step they took had Jimin letting out moans of pain. It was sadder to hear that than it was being surrounded by fire.
Unfortunately, Jimin just had to suck it up. The three made their way upstairs. Every single step was agony for the injured boy. He desperately wished he could just pass out, especially once they reached the stairs. However, once they were over, it was a straight line to Hobi's room.
"Taehyung, you first." Yoongi said as they reached the doorway room. It would be easiest to get him out of the window. He glanced into the room and saw that the rest of the group were still there, with the exception of Jungkook who was outside, standing on the grage roof. "What the hell are you still doing in here!?" Yoongi screeched.
"We weren't going leave without you lot." Namjoon shot back. "Now hurry up!" He ushered Taehyung to the window and he climbed out quickly followed by Hobi and Namjoon himself. Jin stayed behind to help carefully lift Jimin out of the window and placed him in the receiving hands of Hobi and Taehyung. Once it was safe to do so, Jin and Yoongi climbed out. They all removed the cloths from their mouths.
"How do we get down from here?" Jungkook asked meekly, looking at the ground. It was quite a jump.
"We should have grabbed some blankets or something." Hobi panicked, trying to get back through the window but Jin held him back.
"No way are you going back in there."
The members kept anticipating whether or not the jump was worth it. Someone had to remind them that they were next to a fire. It was risk breaking a leg or death! "Just jump!" Namjoon finally yelled. "It's like falling from the monkey bars. You'll be fine!"
To prove his point, he jumped down. He landed on the grass, completely fine aside from a little bit of pain. "Come on." He waved the other members down.
Reluctantly, Taehyung jumped. Followed by Jungkook, Jin, Hobi...
"Yoongi, what are you waiting for?"
Yoongi was about to jump when he felt Jimin go limp in his arms. He quickly checked the boy. "Not now... please not now...." he whispered, holding the boys face. But his fears were true. Jimin was unconcious. "Jimin passed out!" He called down. He couldn't just throw the boy off the roof, there was no way of controlling how he fell.
The panic spread as quick as the fire had.
"You have to!" Jungkook yelled, breaking everyone out of their thoughts. The youngest being the most responsible was quite powerful. To really stretch the moment, he held out his hands, prepared to catch Jimin. Soon, all members followed suit.
Yoongi swallowed a huge lump him his throat and readjusted the hold he had on Jimin. His breathing sped up as he prepared to do this.
In....
Out...
In...
Out...
"Drop him!"
Yoongi opened his eyes and gently dropped Jimin down, aiming for the other members arms.
They caught him. The rapper let out a sigh of relief before jumping himself.
With Jimin in his arms, Jin ran to the ambulance on scene. The paramedics were quick to react and set Jimin up in a stretcher andd placed an oxygen mask over his face.
The members all stood back in a line, watching as the paramedics took Jimin away in the first ambulance and the other paramedics came to check them out for potential injuries.
"He's gonna be okay." Namjoon said. "We all are." He wrapped his arms around the two members closest. The hug continued until they were all bundled in together.
