During the briefest of pauses, Tetsurou held his breath, his grip tightening on the bouquet as hope and fear fought within him.
The battle ended with an easy chuckle from the television, his heart breaking with a flash of an impossibly bright smile.
Gold eyes winked at the camera. "No, I'm happily single."
The door lock clicked into place, leaving behind the forgotten bouquet, the now spare key, and a shattered heart.
