Day 22: Getting To Know You (Again) (part 4)- Reopening Wounds

Summary:

Tsuna still has no idea what is going on, but good news: he isn't alone and maybe not crazy!!

Notes:

A more hurt/comfort chapter than the usual angst for "Getting To Know You (Again)".

Work Text:

Tsuna woke up for the first time without dreaming of anything.

“Ken, he woke up,” a familiar dead voice spoke up.

“Chikusa, of course I am awake. Mukuro better not have done something or there will be consequences,” Tsuna responded automatically, then froze.

Who is Mukuro and since how do I know Chikusa?!

Suddenly he was roughly pulled out of whatever he was lying in to feeling floating up a couple of inches from the ground, with his legs dangling under him.

He stared horrified at the blonde boy who pulled him up from his collar, “That’s it! Who are you to know about that despicable famiglia, byon?!”

“I don’t know!” Tsuna squeaked and freaked out even more at being shaken.

“Talk or you will meet something you don’t want to meet!” Tsuna really hope he doesn’t, especially compared with the weird dreams that go to the terrifying.

“Drop him, Ken. He’s too pathetic to do any harm anyways,” Tsuna tries to understand the beanie hat wearing boy’s blank expression. A whisper tells him Chikusa was feeling exasperate with Ken, but Tsuna mentally shook off those weird thoughts.

“Tch!” The blond boy roughly drops him and lands on the ground hard. He clutches his bad arm to his chest, feeling his heart ready to burst as he tries not to look up at the terrifying look of the two boys.

“So who is Mukuro?” Chikusa asks with a hint of curiosity.

“I-I don’t know!” Tsuna thought for sure those weird dreams will leave him alone, but even with the good night rest, it only temporary calm his mind from falling into insanity. He fears he might be losing his mind and decided to just confess, not caring who, even if these two boys were ready to kill him or hurt him.

Ignoring his throbbing arm in familiarity of other times he was pushed around, he began talking, “Do you ever have a feeling like remembering something, but no matter what it is, it isn’t real? Like you know something, but no one remembers, claiming you’re crazy. I tried to forget about it, but lately it only gets worse.”

“Like what?”

“Like at school, I know there is this popular guy and very good at baseball, but then weeks after starting my second year, his seat is still empty.”

“Maybe he’s sick, byon,” the blond boy, who he suspects is Ken, responded haughty.

Tsuna only shakes his head, “I thought that too, but it has been days and people mentioned how our baseball team suffers and though no one mentions how strange it is that we went from being the best to being the worst, so I asked around.”

Tsuna looks down, “They laughed at me saying there was no Yamamoto Takeshi, believing him to be my imaginary friend.”

He waited for them to laugh or something, but it was silent only broken by the distant water drip. He looks up at the sight of the two boys staring at each other as if having a silent conversation.

Then they look at him, “For some reason, we came to this town.”

“But we don’t know why?! Is like we are looking for something or someone,” Ken growls, but then an echoing growl follows. Tsuna frowns at this, especially when Ken blushes.

“You guys don’t by any chance live here, do you?” Tsuna blurts out.

“NO!” “Of course.”

Ken turns to glare at his friend, “No one asked you!”

“Negative, he asked both of us,” Tsuna gives a small smile at their antics, so he was surprised when the other boy turned to him, “Why did you ask such a question?”

Tsuna rubs the back of his neck, nervously. “Err…well if you want to eat something, you can come over to my house?”

“Is that an invitation or question?” Chikusa’s glasses gleams.

“We don’t want charity!” While Ken shouts offended by his offer, there was a hungry glint in his eye.

“Hiee! I mean since I’ve bothered you guys…imposed…well,” Tsuna crouches down and pulls his hair in frustration with his good arm. What am I thinking of inviting guys who wanted to beat me up to my house?!

That is when he realizes it was getting dark, “Oh no! It's late I have to go home now or she’ll—” Tsuna stops.

He wonders if his mother would worry him gone. Will she too not look at him like Kyoko or worse be relieved to be rid of her no-good son?

“Best we follow you then,” the other boy stands up and Ken stands up as well. They wait for Tsuna for directions.

“You heard us, go, mosh, show us where this food you owe us is!” Tsuna’s eyebrow twitches, but quickly gets up. Then he trips over nothing.

“This is going to be a long walk, byon,” Ken sighs.

After Tsuna opens the door, he is faced with a dark home.

“Mom?” He asks hesitatingly.

“You live alone too? What kind of high horse talk he gave us–?” Ken grumbles , only to scream and jump into Chikusa’s arms.

Tsuna turns to see his mother appear from the dark living room. Her eyes are red and so relieved.

“Tsuna? Who…?”

“Um, they are Ken and Chikusa, I kind of invited them for dinner?” He gives a large strained smile.

She looks at the other boys before turning to Tsuna. Her lip trembles before taking a deep breath.

His mother brightens up and claps, “Oh you've brought friends! Of course, of course!  Do join us!”

The boys take a step back at the sudden beaming smile.

“Just help set the table, Tsuna will help you on that” she quickly goes to the kitchen, “I'll leave some snacks for you to eat until I finish whipping up a nice warm dinner for all of you.”

“Ummm, is she okay?”

“Who is ever okay nowadays?” Chikusa mutters before turning to Tsuna, “Where to?”

Tsuna stares at him before turning red, squeaks out, “Oh yeah, um follow me!”

They set up the table and silently ate some chips. It would have been awkward if he didn't listen to his mother, humming some song in the kitchen and a couple of pans and pots moving about.

Tsuna couldn't help but let slip a small smile. It has been a long time since he heard her so lively.

Maybe…

Just maybe things are looking up.

Nana Sawada’s hands shake a little in excitement. Her son finally brought friends! There is no way she is going to mess it up for him.

Supporting her son in all his endeavors is a go!
