Work Text:
The crew of the USS Enterprise, the flagship of a modern-era space program, finds themselves in a unique situation as they are assigned to a pod cabin with limited accommodations. The cabin consists of three rooms, each with only one bed, presenting an intriguing challenge for the seven crew members. Spock quickly nominates himself to share a room with Jim, his commanding officer.
"Captain, it's logical for us to share quarters. My Vulcan physiology adapts to close quarters more easily."
Grumpy doctor Bones snorts at Spock's suggestion. "Great, now I get to listen to your Vulcan logic all night."
But Scotty offers a practical solution. "Leonard, you and Nyota can share the other bed. It's temporary, and we'll manage."
Bones shoots a look at the closed door to the third room. "I don't want to share with them. No offense, but I prefer sleep without distractions."
Intrigued, Jim decides to check on Sulu and Chekov's room. As he approaches, he hears muffled sounds and cautiously opens the door, only to see Chekov rimming Sulu with abandon. Startled, Jim backs into Spock, who has followed him.
Spock raises an amused eyebrow. "Find what you were looking for, James?"
Jim, feeling embarrassed, sasses back, "Shut up, Spock. Yes, I saw what I wanted."
Spock's eyebrow arches higher. "And what is it you desire, Jim?"
Jim's cheeks flush, but he meets Spock's gaze boldly. "I desire a chess game, Mr. Spock. And our bed seems like the perfect place."
Spock's eyes darken with desire, and he nods. "As you wish. I look forward to the game."
As Jim and Spock head to their shared room, Bones complains. "Everyone's having fun while I'm treating this like a serious mission. It's not fair!"
Scotty offers a different view. "It could be worse, Leonard. We're not dealing with space madness like some out there."
He gestures out the porthole window, where crew members are dragged away, their eyes wild with madness from too much deep space.
Nyota, standing beside Scotty, adds, "We have each other. We'll make the best of it."
Bones huffs but finds comfort in their presence. He sighs and follows Scotty and Nyota to their room, leaving Jim and Spock to their chess game — or whatever else they might do in the privacy of their shared bed.
