"Why aren't you scared of me?" Sausage asked just as Pearl started pouring tea into two mugs.
"I could never be scared of you. You're my best friend."
"Gem and fWhip are."
Pearl turned around to see Sausage staring at the floor. She set the tea down on the coffee table and sat down next to him.
"It's just a little possession, Sausage. We've both been through worse."
"Yeah, but Xornoth's powerful . What if they make me kill you? Permanently?" he asked softly, like saying it too loudly would make it real.
He looked up, tear-filled eyes meeting hers. He looked terrified .
"Then I'll know that it wasn't you , because you would never. It's not your fault. I won't blame you for what Xornoth makes you do."
He nodded slowly. "Thank you," he whispered.
There was a loud swooshing noise, and suddenly, the tall demon stood in Pearl's living room. Sausage made a scared noise, dropping the cup of tea he was holding, but that was the least of their worries right now.
Immediately, Pearl reached into her inventory, hands gripping the handle of her axe.
"Drop the axe," Xornoth commanded.
Pearl raised it even higher.
"Drop the axe or he gets it," they warned, pointing at Sausage, who shrunk in on himself.
Pearl dropped the axe.
"Good girl."
Pearl stared at them as they smiled widely, turning to Sausage.
"Come on, let's go."
Sausage shook his head. "You're gonna make me hurt my friends," he said softly.
"And I'll make you do much worse if you keep refusing to."
The demon extended their hand, waiting for Sausage to grab it.
Sausage was shaking, tears streaming down his face as he glanced at Pearl. He looked like he was on death row, knowingly being led to his demise. Maybe it felt like that.
Pearl smiled sadly at him.
"I don't have all day," Xornoth said. "I have a world to take over, after all."
Sausage took their hand.
