Chapter Text
“You know, Mahiru-senpai, you don't seem very… impressed by me.”
Her voice is amused. Maybe a little intrigued. Like a cat with a toy- batting her around until she lost interest. Mahiru Koizumi snorts, as her blue eyes track her with fascination. She'll get bored soon, she knew. She always did.
“That's because I'm not.”
“Oh?” Coy. That's what her voice was. She thought she was funny. New, and shiny, but foolish the same. “Most people are… intimidated by me.”
“Enoshima.” Her voice is flat. “You're a maladaptive little girl with delusions of grandeur and a fetish. What about that is scary?”
She snorts, still amused. “Oh, little red, don't you know the wolf eats cute snacks like you up ?”
“You're not a wolf.” Still unimpressed. “You're just a girl with depression who never got help. In your twisted little mind, you think that despair will save you. You think there's no hope of anything better. That's not scary, Enoshima. That's pathetic.”
“You think you know me.” Enoshima smiled. “So unimpressed, so disillusioned. You look at all of us like we're unruly children to look after or scold, but aren't you a child too, Mahiru-senpai? With all this pressure, who knows if one day you'll… crack .”
“You don't scare me.” Mahiru laughed at the thought. “You're not the monster I thought you were- you're just… sad. There's just- nothing that impressive about you, is there? There's hundreds of teens just like you, thinking there's no hope. And you find those people, don't you? That's a skill you have; a talent. And you drag them deeper. They validate you. You need them. You make them think they need you , but it's a lie. You're the one who would be nothing without your followers. What is a God with no one to worship them? What is a cult leader with no cult? You're useless without us. You go through life as if your only purpose is to be beheld. It's- astonishing, really. In the end, you're nothing but an overdramatic teenager who never grew up. Your only power was us .”
Her smile falls. “You think I can't make you bleed ?”
“Of course you can.” Mahiru scoffed. “So can a cat with sharp claws.”
“I'm a god among mortals, Mahiru-senpai. Do you really think you could beat me? You? With all my strengths, do you really think you can face a god?”
“I've seen you bleed, God-sama.” She smiled. “That made me realize- I could kill you.”
