Work Text:
Michael Knight has slept in many more beds than he cares to think about.
Motel beds. Some were acceptable and got some shut-eye, three to four hours at best. The rest of the beds Michael doesn't want to remember about, especially bed bugs. No thanks! Fortunately, KITT (Thank GOD!) detected them. Seconds later, Michael runs toward the Trans AM with his duffel bag.
Second, in Hotel beds. Michael would sleep four to five hours, especially in beds with silk sheets. Those were extremely rare.
Third, his bed at the Knight Estate. Five to six hours, sometimes longer due to exhaustion or illness.
Fourth, the beach house bed. Michael rarely slept because he and Stevie were in it together. After Stevie died, Michael often didn't have a good night's sleep back at the Estate due to constant nightmares.
Finally, after months of soul-searching, receiving comfort from his soulmate, KITT, and working hard, Michael slept in more beds. He never felt truly relaxed.
The only times Michael has a great night's sleep is in only one bed, and it isn't a bed. Instead, the driver's seat of the Trans AM feels like a bed during the long nights that KITT drives on AUTO with the seat reclined. KITT would heat the seat, vibrate it slightly to make Michael comfortable, speak soothing words while playing a lullaby in the background, and dim the lights of the interior. Michael would cover himself with his leather jacket and sleep soundly. He would wake up refreshed and ready for the day.
Now, once again, the pair are on the road, heading to their next assignment - a two-day drive from FLAG's HQ. Michael considers stopping at a motel but decides to sleep inside KITT's cabin, knowing he'll rest much better in the driver's seat. He will be safe and sound with his soulmate watching over him.
There's only one bed good enough for Michael, and he's satisfied.
