Work Text:
Nya Smith-Jiang became one with the sea. She sacrificed her humanity for her loved ones. She shed her human skin for her home and was reborn as one with the waves. Stripped of her mortality and form but not of her memories.
Nya Smith-Jiang is there when Benthomaar reclaims Merlopia in his father's name.
Nya Smith-Jiang is there when Overlord returns and she aids her family with all the divine might of the ocean.
Nya Smith-Jiang is there when the Merge comes tearing her apart at the seams and putting her essence back together with new parts. She is now the sea of the merged realms. She is the glowing blue rivers of the Underworld. She is the wine dark waters haunted by the beasts from children's nightmares. She is the rain that falls down from the clouds upon which the writers of Destiny live. She is all water that is in the world, now on the same plane of existence.
In the back of her mind she feels her sibling element awaken, reborn anew along with the world. The wind has a new child.
Her first course of action is to help those of her domain. It takes a while before they adjust even if it was nothing to her. The passage of time is irrelevant for she is no longer mortal. She wishes it wasn't that way because by the time she thinks to visit the surface world, visit her family, it's been years.
(They'd flown right into middle of the Merge, separated from each-other. She looks wherever her essence can reach and finds Kai in the Realm-no, Kingdom of Madness.)
Nya is there when the ninja fight Imperium, wishing she could rain down on the dragon hunters till water replaces the air in their lungs, but there are other ways to handle it.
Nya is there when the mergequakes happen more and more and she feels each one. She screams as they tear her apart just like during the Coalessence. She knows the earth is screaming too for Cole had felt it. She knows the skies are screaming for the sea and sky have always been one, sibling elements at their very core. It comes to an end.
Nya is there when her brother is sacrificed to free one of the Forbidden Five but Ras and his allies disappear before she can freeze the blood in their veins. She has mastered the Rising Dragon technique but does it really matter?
Nya is there at the Tournament of the Sources. Roby, the games master, isn't sure if she should be counted as an elemental or something far greater to compete. Bleckt allows it but with vengestone that limits her might and her very essence.
She fights Jay and lightning courses through the water she is now. The night after the fight it rains and storms like Wojira herself has reawakened.
When Nokt wins, Roby takes her powers. He cannot take all of it for she is the endless sea. The wolf-man grins as he wields the lightning of her once lover and fraction of her essence. She is not present for the rest of the tournament until she is whole again and the first thing she does is embrace her brother. He is back.
Nya is there when a period of peace begins and her family grows old.
She doesn't.Time is meaningless to the ocean.
Nya is there when they pass, all to different things. Cole succumbs to an illness after a life well lived with no regrets. Jay takes his last breath at the shore, in her embrace and she thinks about unfulfilled visions. Kai goes surrounded by flames, protecting the ones he loves and she is there, but too late to sooth his wounds. Lloyd stays, but even his life has it's end. He dies surrounded by family he built over the years:students, friends, siblings. The ocean rages and rain pours till the streets are flooding but it can't bring them back. That's what Zane and Pixal tell her and eventually she calms down. She grieves but there is some solace in that she is not alone.
She is wrong.
Zane and Pixal cannot keep up with the technologies nor do they wish to. She is the only reason they hold on and as much as it hurts, she tells them that she will be fine. They apologize profusely and she can only cry(is it crying really if she is made of salt water entirely?) as they finally turn off.
The Sea is there to guide the generations to come even after Sora, Wyldfyre, Arin and Euphrasia are no more. She grieves them all till she gets used to loss and distances herself from the surface dwellers she guides (does she really if her pain doesn't go away?).
The Sea is there as societies come and go and the water ninja is forgotten. Nya the endless sea, the embodiment of the ocean, the goddess of water and master of all that fall under her domain takes her place. They build her statues and temples, pray and listen when she answers. She is the only divine to still cling onto mortal world and she keeps the memories of departed and long gone in those who still live...but she is tired. She is tired of loss and loneliness even as entirety of the merged realms (it's been so long, they never knew the realms as separate) looks up to her. She envies Nyad, carefree and forgotten and not bearing the pain of memories.
As the world grows and grows she leaves behind clues on where to find her shall the world need her again and departs. She enters the temple where Wojira once lay and falls into a slumber and dreams of simpler days.
Nya Smith-Jiang isn't there when the world meets it's end. Neither is the goddess she was knows as. She hears their calls somewhere in the back of her mind but they are lost among the cries and words that haunt her ever since she accepted the maroon gi. She feels the waves crashing down on land but it is not enough to wake her.
The world falls and she isn't there to witness it's end.
Nya Smith-Jiang is there when a master of wind awakens her along with two others. Twin sisters of wind and water(this one bears her old name) and a small boy they found who is as much creation as he is destruction. They tell her of what she missed and ask for help. She is the only one left of the old world and she agrees to guide the new one. To avoid mistakes of the past.
A new cycle has begun.
