Chapter 2: Charlie is a troublemaker?

Chapter Text

An absolute dumbfounded look melted on Charlie’s face as she stood at the entrance of her biology class, her hand still on the doorknob with the door ajar. She had thought the day couldn’t possibly get any worse but it seemed reality decided to play a cruel trick on her. The last thing she thought would happen was to come face to face with the man she ran into in the hall, yet there she was staring blankly into the eyes of her professor, a sly smirk creeping up on the edge of his face.

Charlie hadn’t had a bad day that she wasn’t able to turn around in years, keeping a positive outlook on even the most misfortunate moments. It was times like this she would in least try to turn around, taking a deep breath in, and then exhaling any of her stresses. Charlie normally found it important in her everyday life to look for the positive in all her bad experiences and she would encourage those around her to do the same. However, how could she in this instance? The girl was having the worse day ever, not only did she lose her mother’s amulet but her professor was the man she had collided into in the hall.

“H-HUH!” She finally found her breath enough to gasp, all the memories of how rude she was to him flooding into her mind. In an instant, Charlie’s white perplexing miraculously went a shade paler, a cold shudder creeping down her spine.

“Aaaah~” The Professor straightened his vest with a solid tug, his hazel gaze sharpening on the girl. “Another student decides to join us today. How generous of you.” The look of horror that painted his student’s faced cased his grin to widen. “My dear, are you planning on coming in or do you plan to stand there the whole class period?” He had to refrain himself from laughing as she stumbled into his room, slipping into a seat between two other classmates. “Excellent, and what is your name dear?”

“C-Charlie Magne~” she sulked, slumping pathetically into her seat, causing a worried glance from her two friends next to her.

“Ah! Well! This is a perfect example of what not to do class!” He adjusted his glasses, pushing them further up on his nose. “I do not tolerate tardiness. From now on the second class starts I will be locking that door and no one will be allowed inside from that point forward.” His gaze fell on Miss Magne, amusement gleamed in the corner of his eye. He turned around and began to spell out his name on the chalkboard. “My name is Alastor Hartfelt, you will refer to me as Sir, Professor Hartfelt, or Mr. Hartfelt. Saying this, I will not tolerate any nicknames. I am not here to be your friend but to teach.” He turned his head towards the class. “Do I make myself clear?” He asked in a commanding voice, his tone firm.

In an instant the whole class nodded their heads, queuing him to repeat himself. “I said, do I make myself clear?” His eyes hardened on them, an eerie pressure dropping within the class.

Alertness shot through the students with a strong discomfort settling within them. “Yes Professor Hartfelt~” The whole class answered clearly this time.

“Fantastic!” He spun around on the heel of his shoe, his face beaming with delight. Within seconds he began to energetically go over the upcoming curriculum. His voice was laced with sarcasm as he slipped in playful jokes here and there.

The sudden change in their professors demeanor caused the students to look among each other with confusion, unsure how to feel about him.

Soon after awhile of the professor going over the course with the class Anthony tapped on Charlie’s shoulder, causing her to turn her head. He gave her a puzzled shrug asking what happened? He had picked up strange looks coming from Mr. Hartfelt ever since she walked in, the professor’s gaze targeting her every chance he had. Instead of a proper answer she simply turned away as her cheeks flushed brightly red. This reaction sparked further interest within him, questions flooding into his mind. Something had definitely happened and she didn’t want to talk about it. Anthony could practically taste the gossip on the tip of his tongue. “Charlie~ Come on! What happened?” He whispered to her with a shove of his elbow.

“N-Nothing~” Her face beamed a brighter shade of red, her gaze falling harder on the paper in front of her.

Anthony grinned and opened his mouth about to persist when Vaggie suddenly queued in with a snappier whisper.

“ANTHONY! Not now!” She pointed to his paper, telling him to knock it off and focus.

Anthony grunted and rolled his eyes, until a shadow loomed over their table. His eyes widening as he glanced up to their professor who looked over him. “Ah shit~” He said as he crossed his arms over his chest.

“Ah! Language my dear! Please! Refrain from speaking such vile words while in my class.” Alastor spoke in a stern yet energetic tone.

“Shit~ I mean fuck~ I mean Uge!” His hand hit his face in a facepalm. “M-my bad, man.” Anthony grumbled, glancing upward at him. Only to suddenly freeze when the professor’s gaze ripped through him with glaring eyes.

“That is Sir to you.” He spoke with warning lacing over his voice.

All three of them stared up at their professor, their blood draining from their face, going pale. “A-Ah y-yes! Yes Sir! Ahaha~ M-my bad ma- I mean my bad sir~” Anthony suddenly slumped into his seat, now feeling just as depressed as Charlie.

“My! I can already tell how much I’m going to like you!” Alastor spoke in a sarcastic tone, his hand ruffling Anthony’s blond hair. He made his way towards the front of the class, giving everyone a stern glance through his glasses. “I didn’t think I had to tell you this but it is apparent that I had too much faith. I also do not allow whispering among peers. Please leave your chatter for after class or you may step outside. A fair warning though, you will not be coming back in once you leave.”

Vaggie’s eye twitched as her neck snapped towards Anthony, giving him a death glare for getting the whole class in trouble. With a far sterner finger, she pointed to his paper, telling him to FOCUS.

The tension between Charlie’s friends caused her to pat Vaggie’s shoulder in attempts to calm her down. After everyone seemed to be refocused she went back to her paper with a sad sigh. Today had gone worse than Charlie could have ever imagined and she didn’t have the energy to even try to turn it around this time.

To her surprise she got a little folded paper flicked over to her, blinking with puzzlement, she glanced to Anthony. He was giving the girl a thumbs up and pointed to the paper. This caused her eyes to droop with disbelief. Was he really still trying to talk to her? After all of that? She shook her head as she opened it, reading with a grumble.

“What happened? You and the professor got something going on? ;)” Was written on the note.

Charlie looked at him with a look that screamed “seriously! Right now?!” Only for him to nod with a large grin. She couldn’t believe Anthony was still so persistent after all of that. To calm his ongoing curiosity she decided to write back, in hopes he could refocus tell after the class was over. Charlie tore a small paper and began to scribble on it and then held it out to Anthony.

“Ah! Well! I see you are a very persistent one Miss Magne!” Alastor chimed in taking the note from her hand. He watched the color drain from her face as he opened it. “Now! Let’s see what is so important!”

“N-No! You shouldn’t read that out loud!” She said standing up, her chair clattering against the ground.

“Me with him?! I would NEVER have a thing for someone so rude and inconsiderate! Our professor is an absolute maniac as far as I can tell.” Alastor read her note, his gaze lingering back over to her. “Ahhh, a maniac hmm? Miss Magen?” His eyes narrowed in on her, a spark of entertainment igniting in the corner of his eye.

Charlie slumped back into her seat, a horrific frown falling on her face.

Alastor could hear playful snickers coming from around the room, obviously enjoying the show. “Well Miss Magne, I’m afraid troublemakers like you must see me after class.” He said not putting any further commentary about her note, he didn’t feel he had too. “As for the rest of the class, since you find this so hilarious! It is only fair for me to have a laugh as well! You will each have an extra assignment due by the end of the week.” He chimed gleefully as he listened to the disappointing grunts of his students.

After an apologetic glance from Anthony the class continued without any further disturbances and before anyone could realize it the class was over. Alastor may have been a stern teacher but he was extremely engaging. His voice uplifting, playful, and sarcastically squeezing in jokes during his lesson. Most importantly he was very easy to follow and became a quick hit by the ladies. Within the first 20 minutes after the disturbances were over, the ladies were batting their lashes at him, staring romantically in his direction, and occasionally getting lost in their own fantasies. It was clear that his charisma and old timey personality had struck a core with the class.

“Now! Do not forget about your extra assignment due on Friday! Please ladies and gentlemen! Enjoy the remainder of your day!” He spoke so energetically it was as if he was on a radio show.

“My my my! It appears SOMEONE won’t be the teachers pet this time.” A feminine snarky voice called out to Charlie’s table, causing three groans to erupt.

Charlie and her friends all glanced over to Katie Killjoy, exhausted looks drooping on their faces. This caused a snicker from her, urging Katie to continue. “How does it feel to be a LOSERS in class Magne? Oh wait! You have always been that!”

“Ohhhh ouch! What an INSULT! I can tell you got creative with that one.” Anthony placed a hand over his head, pretending to be a damsel in distress. “Does little miss acne want me to steal her man again?” He grinned down at her causing a scuff to escape her breath.

“I haven’t had acne since high school! You beast!” She snarled, her voice laced with venom.

“Ahhh, yeah yeah, you figured out how to use makeup now. Great! Because~”

“Anthony!” Charlie’s hand gently pressed against his shoulder, causing him to stop his insult, and look towards his friend. “There is no reason to get on her level, let’s stay civil. Ok?” Charlie smiled weakly up at him.

Katie was practically fuming, glaring at Anthony. Ever since high school when Katie’s boyfriend cheated on her with Anthony she had built up resentment towards him. Sure Anthony only did it for revenge for Charlie since she refused to do anything about the woman’s bullying but she could care less about that. She just hated them and wanted to find anyway to make their little friend group suffer. “Uuugh! Don't you ignore me!” She snapped as the three walked passed, Vaggie subtly slipping her the bird, her gaze glaring harshly at her. “YOU PRUDE!” She shouted gathering her belongings in a fit of annoyance.

Charlie sighed as she tried to slip out the door when she heard her name being called, a jolt ran up her spine as she stopped. She had hoped he would have forgotten but that was apparently too merciful for her today, realities crudity was obviously not finished. “O-ok~” She let out a small whimper as her friends walked out the door. Charlie could hear Vaggie’s voice ripping through Anthony for getting her in trouble through the closed door. She would have wished him luck if she didn’t need some herself.

“Miss Magne, why don’t you take a seat while the rest of the class clears out.” Alastor said while typing on his laptop, his eyes not even looking at her.

With hesitation she did as he asked, sitting as the rest of the class left. She could see a snarky smirk coming from her former bully Katie as she slipped by. “Good luck with the trouble maker, professor!” The girl chirped in a fake cheerful voice at him. “You’ll need it! I’ve known this one since high school. She is SUCH a bad student. I’d just kick her out if I was you.” She gave a playful wave.

Charlie looked at her with disbelief and disgust. Her jaw hanging open wanting to scream “LIER!” But was quickly hushed by Alastor.

“Ah ah ah Miss Magen.” He shook his head and directed his attention to his other student. “As for you Miss Killjoy, I’d appreciate it if you kept your comments to yourself. Now, have a nice day.”

“If you say so, Mr. Hartfelt!” She spoke cheerfully as she slipped out.

Charlie waited patiently as the rest of the students slowly trickled out of class, slumping deeper into her seat with each second passing bye. Her eyes slowly glancing up at Alastor as he typed away on the laptop. She couldn’t help but wonder if he really wasn’t all that bad? After all, she was the one who slammed into him in the hall and instead of giving him a proper apology she tripped all over herself. Sure he had said a couple of insulting things but didn’t he have the right to feel annoyed when someone nearly tackled you to the ground? Even during class he didn’t seem to be a bad teacher. In fact he was surprisingly easy to understand and follow. It was also a relief to know he encouraged questions, wanting to be sure his lesson was understood by everyone. The only time he became a terror was when dealing with trouble makers, which she could understand the frustration.

Charlie’s head suddenly dropped on the long desk like a rock, causing a concerned surprised look from the professor. A small sigh escaped her as she realized she WAS a bad student today, Charlie could just cry from making such a horrible impression on him.

“Now now my dear, that isn’t necessary.” He loomed over her, his back straight, hands clasped behind his back, and head cocked playfully to the side. To his further surprise the girl suddenly jolted forward, latching onto him in a pitiful hug, causing every muscle in his body to tense.

“I-I am sooo sorrryyyy~” She sniffled with water eyes.

A jolt shot up his spine, his hands outstretching in surprise. He stared down at her with disbelief etched into his smiling face. Was she crying? Over being called behind class? He stared with a look of confusion falling on his face.

“I-I’m a bad student~ I-I won’t do it again~ P-please d-don’t hate me~” Charlie cried out in small little whimpers, her teary gaze pitifully looking into his.

“Ah~ M-my dear~” He remained frozen, his sharp gaze widening as he stared down at the girl, a singular question passing through his mind. Did he just stutter? The rare action alone was enough to surprise him but from this girl? How amusingly infuriating. His surprise melted into a hardened stare, his smile curved further up his face. “My dear, there is no need for the water works.” His hand dropped on her head, caressing her soft hair comfortingly. “I will forget about the incident that happened today to ease your conscience.” He spoke with sincerity. Alastor wasn’t sure why he was allowing her to walk away from it so easily but he just felt strangely compelled too.

“R-really?”

“Indeed my dear, no~”

“That’s wonderful!” Her eyes sparkled up at him, causing him to flinch back a bit more, the edge of his smile twitching, unsure on how to feel. “I should have had more faith things would turn around!” Her smile lit up, bringing a certain warmth into the room. “I should know better than to focus on the negative!”

His eyebrow raised, listening to her talk was strange. He hadn’t met anyone as cheery as she sounded. Speaking about positivity hidden away in the negative? What preposterous thinking, so much so he nearly laughed. The world was far too cruel for anyone to have such a mindset and outlook. It didn’t matter if you were a demon or human. You could easily end up dead by the next morning, yet she was as bright as a summers day in April.

“However~” Her smile faded into a more worried expression. She still had to deal with her lost Amulet.

Alastor’s smile crept up on his face, knowing exactly what she was so worried about.

“Oh!” Charlie pulled back, she didn’t realize she had latched onto him. “I-I’m sorry~” Her words were caught in her throat as her professor leaned down towards her, his hand resting in the middle of her desk. “O-oh~” She fidgeted in her seat.

“My dear? Did you lose something?” He whispered in her ear, so close he could smell the sweet scent of her shampoo. His nails digging into the wood of the long desk, her sweetness tempting his instinctual desire.

“E-Ehm, y-yes?” She found her breath with one small pant, her heartbeat accelerating in her chest. The feeling of his lingering breath sending chills down her spine.

“Yes what? My dear?” His laugh twisting around her.

“Y-yes sir, I-I did~” she answered more clearly but her tone dropping into a whisper.

His hand took her chin in his palm, his long fingers holding her cheeks sternly as he pulled her gaze up towards him. “What did I say about proper eye contact my dear? Look at me when I’m talking to you.” He spoke in a deeply commanding voice, it was both smooth and deep.

Charlie’s eyes widened as his strong gaze ripped through her, his powerful words causing her heart to skip in her chest. A certain warmth building in the bit of her stomach. “A-Oh~ Ah~” She whimpered in his stern grip, a certain warmth rising within her. She felt both scared and oddly drawn to him at the same time as he held her face in his strong grip.

“Are you going to answer your teacher? Or are you really a bad student of mine?” His mouth curved into a larger grin, his hazel eyes beating down at her with a predatory glint.

“Hmm~” She felt her breath drop as she stared into his dangerously alluring gaze, her cheeks and ears growing hot. She couldn’t figure out what these new feelings that teased her lower half were, causing her legs to squeeze together tightly, fidgeting against each other as a certain wet substance teased her panties. Her hand gently moving up to his wrist that held her into his deep gaze. “P-please, y-you are~”

“That doesn’t sound like an answer my dear.” Something within him nearly erupted, causing his grip to tighten, her fidgeting demeanor urging him to devour her. However, he refrained himself, keeping a steady mind as he stared down at the girl but this didn’t stop him from leaning down closer, his breath grazing the side of her neck.

Her heart skipped a beat as her gaze stared weakly into his, his breath teasing her neck causing a shudder to run down her spine. “Y-yes, I lost my necklace.” She finally answered him.

His gaze narrowed at her with a stern stare. “I see, so this belongs to you then?” His hand slipped from her chin, reaching into his pocket to take out a little amulet. This caused a spark of interest in her gaze that drew his immediate looming.

“Yes! That is mine!” She said in a sudden outburst, coming out of her daze, a perky smile lifting on her face as if she had forgotten how close they were.

He chuckled as he slipped it into her hand, feeling slightly surprised on how quickly her attention completely captivated the amulet. “One should be more carful to not lose important belongings, dear.” He said taking a sudden step back, his gaze still heavy on her, as if he was noticing a sudden change in the air around her. He watched as her smile once again brightened the room around them, causing an amused chuckle to escape him.

“Thank you! I’ll definitely be more careful!” She said in a bright smile, only too feel her heart patter even faster as his hand suddenly captured hers, lifting it up to his lips in a gentle kiss. His grip was far more gentle than just moments ago, causing a romantic air to twirl around her.

“The pleasure is all mine, my dear.”

“Hmm!” Her cheeks felt like they were on fire and her head began to spin. A man had never kissed her hand like that before and for a moment she felt like a princess. How could someone possibly be this charming, yet have such a scary presence to them. “Ah! Ahahaa! Y-yeah!” She pulled her hand away in a nervous frenzy, standing up from her seat. “I best be on my way now! I-I wouldn’t want to waste any more of your time!” She said slipping by him, running away, trying her best to not look back. Her heart still racing in her chest as she ran down the hall.

His eyes watched the door as his smile remained on his face.

——————————————————————-

As the day finished up the three friends ended their day at their favorite cafe. All three of them sitting around a small table with a couple plates of dessert and coffee.

“What?! You crashed into him on the way to the bathroom?” Anthony blurted out with a heavy laugh, his hand slamming on the table, shaking the glasses.

“It isn’t funny!” Vaggie snapped at him, her fist slamming on the table as well, before she took a sip of her coffee. “You apologized right? Everything should be fine.” She side eyes Charlie.

“Ha! Of course she apologized! Have you forgotten who you are talking to Vags?” Anthony took a big bite of his strawberry cake, his cheeks flushing warmly.

Charlie’s gaze remained fixed on her chocolate cake, a frown falling further on her face.“Y-yeah I did but~” Charlie held her arm a bit awkwardly. “I was kind of rude towards him in the end.” She said glancing up at her friends in turn.

Her feminine friend blinked, his eyes falling in her in disbelief. “What?! You? Ha! No wonder he was giving you such looks in class! I’m so proud of you! Standing up to the man! FUCK yeah!” He grinned widely but Charlie only sunk further into her seat. “But~” his eyes lingered down to Charlie’s chocolate cake, not noticing her discomfort.

“But?” Charlie persisted that he continued.

“But if you ask me, it seemed like he wanted to eat you more than anything.” He said taking a fork full of her chocolate cake, the sugary delight warming his tastebuds. “Hmmm~” He purred in sugary heaven.

“E-eat me?” Charlie shivered, her eyes falling once again.

“Anthony!” Vaggie snarled at him and then placed her hand on her shoulder. “He doesn’t want to eat you, Anthony is just being a jerk. AGAIN, you know how he loves his pranks.” She rolled her eyes.

“Hmm i don’t know, I’m kind of not joking this time.” He said taking a third bite of her cake and then looked over to Vaggie’s dessert.

Vaggie simply rolled her eyes and shoved her dessert towards Anthony. “Look, Charlie~ Don’t listen to him, ok? I got to go but DO NOT scare her Anthony!” She said standing up and slapping the back of his head.

“Ouch!” He whimpered, his hand shooting upward to the back of his head, rubbing it. Both of them glaring up at each other with locked eyes until Anthony grumbled “I was just sayin.”

As Vaggie left the two Anthony and Charlie continued to drink, snack, and talk about him spending the night at her house. They continue to gossip about all of their new Professors and the boys they thought were cute. It wasn’t long before it began to get dark out, causing Charlie’s eyes to widen.

“Ah! It is already so late!” Charlie complained, looking down at the time.

“What? It isn’t a big deal. You got to learn to loosen up toots.” He said finishing off the rest of his drink, his arm comfortably leaning against the back of his seat.

“Yes it is! My mom never lets me stay out late. She must be so worried.”

Anthony rolled his eyes at her. “You’re going to be 21 next week! You can be out past 7pm. Your mom will be fine.”

Charlie crossed her arms at him, her eyebrows furrowing. “Anthony, we need to go. Mom is going to be so mad at us both. You REALLY want to deal with that?” Her eyes narrowed with an agitated frown.

With a long sigh he reluctantly finished up and headed out with her. The two walking back through the dead of night on the sidewalk. Charlie looking uncomfortable, glancing around as if any shadow was out to get her.

“Don’t worry toots, I’m here. I’m out late ALL the time.” He said rolling his eyes as he followed her.

“But what if we run into one of those vampires?”

“The hunters petrol the night, Charlie. Stop worrying so much. Again, I’m out late all the time. It isn’t as big of a deal as you are making it out to be.”

“Anthony, we hadn’t passed a single person. I see no petrol around!”

He looks around and shrugs. “Eh, so they got the night off? They are here so much that no vampires dare to even step foot in this area.” He grinned, patting her back a little too hard. “I’m serious! Just relax, scaredy cat.”

Charlie turned around with a spin on her heel, she was about to complain further when she suddenly froze, her eyes widening, and her steps frozen in place as her trembling hand began to slowly raise pointing behind him.

Anthony just raised his eyebrow and scuffed. “What? Am I supposed to look back and be like OH NO! What is behind me?!” He laughed “I ant falling for it toots!” She grinned down at her but when she didn’t let up he felt a bit of worry setting in. “Ah~ Hahaha~” He gave a nervous laugh as he turned his head. The next moment he seemed to have went white as ghost as he also froze in place. His breath trapped in his throat too scared to exhale. His blue eyes seemed to tremble as he stared at a red looming right behind him, its vampire wings outstretched, and its menacing smile crept further up its face.
