Work Text:
It was a beautiful night at the Inuzuka family home.
After a delicious dinner made by Hinata, the entire family settled down together. The stars filled the sky, and the moon shone bright. The Inuzuka daughters, Himeko and Kayo, ran around in circles in the living room until they tired themselves. At the same time, Hinata cradled her youngest son, Kouta, in her arms. Kiba felt a sense of pride seeing his daughters being as beautiful and strong as his wife and already having the energy to run with the wolves like their old man.
But when Himeko and Kayo finally tired themselves out, Hinata brought out their favorite storybook to read. Kayo and Himeko huddled closely to feel their mother's warmth.
"And the wolf children became friends with all the other animals in the forest, for one day, one of them would become the ruler," Hinata said.
Kayo cried happily as she hugged her mother's arm. "I hope the second wolf child becomes the ruler!"
Hinata giggled. "Well, this story has surprising twists and turns, my little one."
Kayo shook her head. "Well, I know the second wolf child will become the forest's ruler!"
Himeko shook her head and stood on the couch to hug Hinata's other arm. "But that's not how the story goes!" She turned to her father. "Right, Daddy?"
Kiba smiled. "Well, you know your old man isn't as bookish as your mother, Hime."
Little Kouta placed his tiny hand on the picture of the youngest wolf child, and Hinata smiled proudly.
"Well, Kayo loves this story so much that she tells it in her own way." Hinata adored her little one's vibrant imagination. "And one day, you, your sister, and your brother will write your own stories as you grow older."
Himeko's lavender purple eyes widened at the idea of having a story similar to the wolf children in the book who grow up and become strong. She dreamed of running with the wolves and being strong like her daddy.
"I will become ruler of the forest!" Himeko declared. "It sounds better than simply being a Hokage!"
Kiba beamed with pride as his girls talked about their dreams with their mother, who encouraged them every step of the way. Nothing could be more perfect for Kiba, but he couldn't help but glance at the full moon from the glass door.
Kiba loved Hinata more than anyone, and he was willing to make sacrifices because he was the luckiest man alive to be the lover of a high-society woman. Hinata gave up high society because she loved him too much.
But still, the wild would always call out to him.
Kiba slid open the glass door and walked into the cold night. Hinata gave a knowing smile as she continued to dote on her children.
Yes, Kiba declared to himself that he was the happiest man alive to be married to Hinata and had children with her. He declared his love by howling to the moon like a wolf.
Kayo and Himeko gasped as they watched their father, and Kouta wiggled excitedly in his mother's arms. Hinata saw her daughters rushing to slide open the glass door themselves, the call of the wild calling them for the first time. Hinata beamed with pride as she held Kouta close.
"Papa! Papa!" The girls cried.
They looked at their father with admiration, but they could also hear nature all around them and feel the full moon's energy.
Kiba knelt down and smiled at his two girls. "What is it girls?"
Himeko and Kayo were unlike the other children in the village. They could barely contain themselves; it was natural for children like them with close connections to canines.
"I can run with the wolves too!" Himeko declared.
But Kayo growled at her sister. "No, I can!"
The two girls glared at each other before howling at the moon.
Kiba's mouth dropped when he saw how much his daughters had grown since they were born and how they kept on howling at the moon with reckless abandon.
"You're doing amazing girls! But you still have so much to learn!" Kiba said as he scooped them up in his arms. Let the master show you how!" Himeko and Kayo beamed as Kiba howled to the moon again, and the two of them tried to imitate, not caring if the neighbors would get mad.
Hinata didn't mind either; she was elated and couldn't get Kouta to settle down, so she slid open the glass door. Kiba and the girls howled once more before Kiba saw Hinata smiling warmly at them as she held Kouta in her arms.
"That was beautiful!" Hinata's pale eyes shined with the moon as her daughters ran to her, and Kouta reached out for his father.
Kiba placed his hand on the back of his head and grinned. "You're sure I'm not some sort of wild animal?"
Hinata giggled before shaking her head and trying to fight the tears in her eyes. Kiba quickly took Kouta from her, and she knelt down to dote on her daughters again.
"I love all of you so much, and I am so thankful that I have made such a wonderful family!" Hinata said.
Kiba smiled down at his favorite girls, and little Kouta communicated in baby speak, placing his tiny hands all over his father's face. Meanwhile, Himeko and Kayo called out for their mother and rejoiced that they finally learned how to howl like their father and howled again.
"Oh, my girls are becoming just as adventurous as their father. I wonder if I can learn from them as well…" Hinata said.
After her daughters were done howling, Hinata imitated a howl to the beautiful moon as best she could. After she nearly lost her voice howling, she breathed and blushed in embarrassment, but Kayo and Himeko were in awe, their pale eyes as wide as the full moon and their mouths agape.
"Mama!" Kayo cried.
"Damn!" Kiba placed his hand on his hip as he gave a husky low growl.
"Oh!" Hinata cried as she blushed as hard as a lovestruck teenager and turned away.
"I just embarrassed myself, that's all!" Hinata said while giggling to herself. But Himeko and Kayo were in tow to hug her legs.
"No Mama! I loved it!" Himeko said. "Your howl is prettier than Papa's!"
Kiba snorted slightly before smirking at his daughter's remark. "Well now!"
Kayo seemed to agree, and Kiba noticed her wink with her tongue stuck out.
But then the entire family was taken aback when they noticed Kouta trying his hardest to say his first words. Hinata gasped and moved closer to her husband, trying to help her son by softly mouthing some words. Himeko was delighted at her brother, and Kayo was bewildered to see her younger brother trying to speak for the first time.
Although the only "words" that came out of Kouta's mouth were "Woooo! Woooo!" his parents quickly realized that he was imitating the sound of a wolf. Then Kouta reached up and tried to grab the stars, making adorable growls that Kiba couldn't help but chuckle at. "My little man!" Kiba doted.
Hinata quickly took her son's hand and beamed, "Oh, Kouta, please stop growing up so fast. I don't think my heart can take it!"
She was overjoyed and anxious, but she felt a sense of calm when her husband placed his free hand on her cheek and looked deeply into her eyes.
"Don't worry, Hinata. Our son is only growing up so strong because of you," Kiba said as he slowly leaned his forehead to touch hers. Hinata beamed and affectionately returned the gesture as she took Kouta's hand.
"And because of you as well," Hinata said.
Kiba and Hinata were about to move in for a kiss. But they were stopped by Himeko and Kayo, who were so happy that their brother was also becoming a wolf. The two of them were sidetracked by their daughters trying to help their brother howl, but Kouta started to cry. Being the perfect team, Kiba shushed his daughters, and Hinata rocked her son in her arms and soothed him as he slowly fell asleep.
As the family moved back inside their warm house, Kiba and Hinata gently lowered Kouta into his crib, where he fell asleep without argument. When Himeko and Kayo followed their parents, their soft yawns didn't go unnoticed. Kiba urged his daughters to leave Kouta's room, and Hinata shut the door behind them.
Kiba picked Himeko and Kayo up, took them into the shared bedroom, and placed them in their beds. But being the rebellious girls they were, they continued to practice their howling. However, their howling was slowing down and becoming quieter.
"You girls are good at this," Kiba said as he pulled the bed sheet over Himeko.
Hinata went over to Kayo's bed and tucked her in as well. "I know you two will grow up very strong."
Kayo blinked her pale eyes and turned to face her father. "But Papa! I want to train more!"
Kiba quickly knelt to Kayo's side and smiled down at her as he touched her cheek. "I will train you tomorrow!" Kiba kissed her forehead.
"Get plenty of rest," Hinata said before kissing Himeko's forehead. "I love you two so much!"
"Love you!" Himeko and Kayo said in unison.
Kiba and Hinata stopped at the door and smiled warmly at their daughters before turning off the light. But when Kayo and Himeko heard their parents' bedroom door shut tight, they couldn't help but run around on all fours and bark softly. Eventually, the dark of night made their eyes too heavy. The two girls grabbed their blankets and made a little nest for themselves as they slept on the floor, all curled up together.
Kiba would be even more surprised to see that in the morning. But before that, one of his favorite things was sleeping next to the most beautiful woman every night. Hinata blushed as she lay on one side of the bed and wrapped the blanket around her as her husband teased her with soft growls. He turned off the lamp and lay beside her.
Radiated by the moonlight, Hinata looked even more beautiful as she smiled warmly at him. Kiba grinned as she laced her hand with his.
"Our children grew so fast," Hinata stopped as she almost cried tears of happiness. "They were able to understand the story of the wolf children."
Kiba chuckled. "Just wait until I tell them the story about the strong wolf man who won the heart of the beautiful princess!"
He wrapped his strong arms around her, and Hinata turned so he could hug her from behind. Hinata couldn't stop giggling as he cuddled her.
"It's my favorite story in the world! The wolf who became a man and won the beautiful princess from the oblivious Hokage," Kiba said.
Kiba howled, and Hinata giggled as she turned back to face him. With Kiba's ability to see well in the dark, he saw his wife had her usual seductive look, which looked absolutely hypnotic with her beautiful pale purple eyes.
"I love you so much Kiba!" Hinata whispered.
Kiba gave a husky growl as he moved his face closer to hers. "I love you more than anything, my beautiful wife."
As their lips met, their hands were all over each other. The world faded around them, and the moonlight shone for them in their act of true love.
A beautiful night for the werewolf and the princess beyond their wildest dreams…
And the husband and wife hoped for another wolf child for their family…
But they also knew that time would decide. It was already enough work to be parents of three blossoming wolf children, whom they imagined would become strong forces when they grew up.
Still, Kiba and Hinata smiled in their sleep, content and excited about the future.
