Chapter Text
Mk would never not be surprised at Pigsy's truck's resilience. He'd decided to also not question how the kitchenette remained fully functional with all the chaos recently. The warm bowls of noodles in his hands after a long and confusing battle was absolutely worth it. He turned to offer the second bowl to Sage, but when he turned around he was gone. Mei quickly tapped his shoulder and pointed at the top of the Monkey Mech they were all chilling on and he saw the sleeping monkey draped over the giant robot's helmet. Not wanting to waste a bowl of noodles, Mk clumsily climbed up the mech to the monkey. Somehow without spilling a single drop of broth he made it to the top.
Mk flailed as he regained his balance. He was trying to be a stealthy, but couldn't help being a little loud. It didn't seem to bother Sage in the slightest. The monkey demon was still 100% conked out. He must have been a very heavy sleeper. A bird had even settled on his head without even a twitch. A very colorful hawk. Wait a second. Those were Monkey King colors!
"Monkey King?" Mk whispered and set down the extra bowl of noodles. He could be wrong. It could be just an unrelated bird in the middle of where a major disturbance had just taken place and scared off all other wildlife. Probably.
The Hawk shuffled and hopped lightly on Sage's head a few times to get closer to the noodles. Mk snatched them back up just in case the bird actually was just a wild animal. It looked down towards the group socializing below before looking back at Mk and nodded.
"Wait, why are you here? Did you somehow know this was gonna happen?" Mk asked confused.
The bird made a weird human-like sigh. "Macaque mentioned some concerning things that I had to see for myself." Hawk WuKong whispered back to him. "Didn't realize how bad things were getting over here. By the time I got here, you and everyone else basically had the situation handled. Good job, by the way. Allies can come in the most unexpected places. Proud of you, bud."
"You really think I did a good job?" Mk asked, his eyes filled with sparkling tears.
"Sure, bud!" Hawk WuKong nudged him encouragingly with a colorful wing. "Though, I am curious. How'd you figure Sage was my kid? We don't exactly look exactly alike and there are plenty of cream and silver monkeys on the island who could have been his parents."
"Oh," Mk said simply, eyes going back to simple little dots. "Uh, Macaque was saying a lot of mean things about your parenting style when we were training. He kinda tried to imply that you were trying to replace your son with me, for some reason, and that it was holding you back from training me properly. I know that's not the case now, but then he also started using it against you when you guys were fighting. So I knew that there had to have been a son for real and there's only one monkey on the island that could be your son. I also mostly just guessed and he basically confirmed it when I asked."
"Well, I guess you do have a little bit of an advantage on guessing. Not many visitors to the island and he's not really mentioned in the books." Hawk WuKong nodded as he stole a noodle from the bowl. Somehow, by some miracle of plot convenience, Sage didn't wake up at all during their conversation.
"Is it like a big secret or something?" asked Mk.
"Not exactly. Being in the spotlight's never really been his thing. In the early days, when I was becoming more famous with the common people, we both realized neither of us really did well with overly enthusiastic crowds."
"Is that why you're a bird right now?"
"Nah, I originally just wanted to check on him in case anything bad happened. Sage doesn't have gold vision like us and if there wasn't actually anything wrong I could have just flown off without him knowing I was there."
"I could tell it was you even without my gold vision." Mk deadpanned.
"You underestimate how bad his vision is, trust me." he said with a shrug. "But enough talking. Your friends are going to get worried if you stay up here too long." Hawk WuKong stole another noodle before pecking at his son until he began to wake up and flew off.
Sage woke up slowly and looked around confused until he saw Mk holding two bowls. He handed him the fuller of the two bowls. The tip of Sage's tail flicked in the same way Monkey King's did when he was happy about something. The power of Pigsy's Noodles was clearly too strong to hide any excitement. He knew this himself, of course, as Pigsy's most important taste tester.
When Mk was sure Sage was awake enough he gave the monkey some chopsticks for his noodles and hopped down to join his friends to eat. Pigsy slung an arm around his shoulders when got down and topped off his bowl with a ladle of hot broth.
"Welp, you did it kid." Said Pigsy. Apparently everyone had waited for him to come back down before eating, even Tang. At his father's words everyone began digging in.
"You defeated DBK. Again." Sandy said before taking a bite. He was very mindful not to talk with food in his mouth. His words made Mk hesitate a little.
"You know," Mk lowered his chopsticks. "I'm not sure I did. Whatever was powering him up? It made him different."
"But~! We won, right?" Mei said in a singsong voice. He knew she was trying to cheer him up a little.
"I'm sure it's fine." Tang cut in after finishing his bowl in record time. "You were done with this, right?" he stabbed his chopsticks into Pigsy's bowl.
"Hey! Get your mits outta my bowl, Tang!" Pigsy futilely dodged the man's attempts at his noodles making Mei and Mk laugh at them.
The rest of their evening went peacefully as the group ate noodles and watched the sunset.
