Work Text:
Way up in the mountains, four thousand feet high
There's a trail through the trees to a cliff where Carolina meets the sky
Oh, and there's a view I just can't describe
No, I'm not there yet, just a few more steps, baby wait
Okay, you can open your eyes
***
“Tim.” Lucy says, she has a blindfold over her eyes and he’s leading her up the last climb of the mountain. “Why do I have a blindfold on? And why can’t I take it off? And—”
“You sure ask a lot of questions.” He grumbles. He stops and then pulls Lucy to a stop, and takes a look over the mountains. It is a view of LA that you just can’t anywhere else, and it’s one of their favorite hikes to do together. He thought it would be the perfect opportunity to propose to her.
Above the city they both love, above the city where they met and fell in love.
“Can I take it off yet?” She asks. He shakes his head, and then realizes she can’t see him.
“Just a few more steps Luce.” He says. He pulls her along, and then stops her right next to a bench.
“Okay.” He says. Lucy takes the blindfold off, and looks around her, she takes in the view. And he watches her in awe. No matter how many times they hiked this trail, it never got old.
“Wow.” She says and she looks at him, he puts his hand in his pocket feeling for the ring box. “This is still amazing. But—why was I blindfolded?”
Tim looks around and he knows, this is it. This is the moment.

This is it, this is now, this is what I've been talking about
Looking out, can't you see forever?
Take my hand, just take it in
This is a moment we won't forget
On top of the world, here, together
If there ever was a time for a perfect kiss, this is it

He leans in and gives her a kiss, and holds his lips there for a few minutes. And then without hesitation he drops to one knee. Her eyes go wide as she takes him in, and as he pulls out the ring box.
He flips it open, and swallows hard. He practiced this for weeks, and he knows it might have been a little silly but—he wants this to be perfect this is something they will remember for the rest of their lives.
“Lucy, you are the best person. The most incredible person. You make me happy beyond belief. I have never wanted to be with someone as much as I want to be with you. There has been heart break and pain, there has been love and healing. I love you so much Lucy.” He says and Lucy is crying, tears running down her face freely.
***
Girl I know that you've been waiting and talking to your friends
Wondering if and wondering where and wondering when
Well I've been waiting too, holding on to this ring
For the right words to say, for the right time and place, for me to get on one knee
***
“I know you have been waiting for this moment, I have too. I thought of doing it here, and I just knew it would be perfect. You deserve the best, and I want to give you the best for the rest of your life.”
Lucy sniffs, her eyes staying on Tim’s face as he continues. He’s getting a little emotional himself, and he takes a deep breath. He practiced this part so many times in front of the mirror, and Lucy had caught him a few times.
“I messed up and almost lost you forever. I am never making that mistake again. You are what makes my world spin, you make it better. You make me better and because of you I want to be better.”
“Tim.” Lucy whispers. “You are the most amazing man.” Tim smiles at her, and he better get to the question before they both lose it on top of the mountain.
“Lucy Chen,” he starts. And soon it wouldn’t be Chen but Bradford. If she said yes, of course. “Will you marry me?”
“Yes.” She says. “Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.” He loses tracks of the yeses because suddenly Lucy is on her knees too. He smiles and slips the ring on her finger.
This is it.

They stay like that for awhile, until Tim’s knee starts to hurt and then he pulls them up. He holds her close as they take in the city below them and the ring on her finger.
“Was it worth it coming up here blindfolded?” He asks. She rolls her eyes, but presses a kiss to his cheek.
“Still a little weird.” She admits. “But yes baby, it was worth it.” He can’t help but press another kiss to her lips, and then dip her down. She squeals holding onto him but he’s not going to let her go.
“I got you baby.” He says pulling her back up. “I got you.” Lucy grins at him, and presses a kiss to his lips and then nose.
“Now and forever right?” She asks. Tim nods and kisses her long and hard. And then she pulls out her phone and angles it so she can get them, her engagement ring and the city in the frame.
He kisses the side of her head, and he’s not sure he’s ever been this happy.
And god does he love his future wife.
And he can’t wait to marry her.

Now you're walking down the aisle
And I can't help but smile
***
And now nine months later, he watches as Lucy floats down the aisle in her dress. Grey is on her arm, because her parents refused to come. She’s smiling as she walks towards him, and he feels his hands shaking a little as she gets closer.
This is it, this is now.

Lucy approaches him, and Grey nods at him a soft smile on his face. When Lucy asked Tim what he thought about Grey walking her down the aisle. He immediately said yes, Grey was—is— like a father. He paired them up, and then supported them throughout their partnership and relationship.
He got frustrated with both of them, he called them out on their bullshit but he was carrying and loving like a father should be. Like neither of them ever had with theirs.
Tim takes Lucy’s hand and pulls her up, she smiles at him. And it’s a smile only for him, one she gives him every morning. One that tells him she is his—forever.
“You look beautiful.” He says quietly. Lucy squeezes his hand, and he holds on to it. The officiant starts reading but Tim keeps his eyes on Lucy.
Oh how he loves her.
“Tim your vows.” The officiant says. Tim reaches into his pocket and pulls out a piece of paper. There’s not enough words in the world, to tell Lucy how much he loves her.
“Lucy,” he begins. “When I first met you—we didn’t exactly get a long. I believe your exact words were. “With all due respect sir, you are a pain in my ass.” And maybe I was.” There’s laughter from the crowd and Lucy grins at him.
“But as time went on, I realized that you did respect me and I respected you too. We had each other’s backs in every possible way. We fought for each other, saved each other. You helped me and I hopefully helped you.”
“You did.” She says.
He smiles and continues, he also memorized his vows. “We had our share of mistakes and getting with the wrong people. We had our share of heartbreak, undercover ops, pining and everything else. Breakups and makeups.”
Tim watches as a tear runs down her face. “I made a awful mistake but you gave me a second chance. We started again and here we are.”
“Here we are.” She mutters. “Thank god.” He huffs out a laugh.
“I love you Lucy, maybe longer than I am willing to admit but—you are everything. You are the light, the hope, and everything good. I can’t wait to get the rest of our life started together. I love you Luce.”
He tucks the paper away, and Lucy pulls out her own. She clears her throat, and then looks up at the sky and then at Tim.
“Tim,” she starts. “You were by all definitions a hard ass. You kicked me out of the shop, and then I saved your life by the way.” She grins at him. Tim rolls his eyes, and then they are back on her.
“I didn’t know why you were the way that you were but— I started to figure you out little by little piece by piece. It started to come together, you are this amazing, noble man. You put everyone else before yourself even though you matter too. You are protective, loving and caring. The good shines through the darkness you think you have. You are strong and brave. And my favorite person in the entire world. You make me stronger, and braver. You protect me and love me.” She pauses her voice shaking a little. “I love you so much Tim, every little thing good and bad. You make me happy, and I cannot wait to be your wife and do this life with you.”
Tim blinks back the tears in his eyes, and he brings her hands up to his mouth. He presses a kiss to each of her fingers. And then leans in to press a kiss to her cheek.
“Alright—” The officiant says. “Tim repeat after me—”
Tim does and he promises to love Lucy in sickness and in health and for the rest of their lives. Lucy does the same, and she’s crying as he slips her wedding ring on his finger. He’s not doing much better when she slips his on and then bends down to give it a kiss.
“I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.” The officiant says. Tim does, he kisses her and practically lifts her off the ground.
Lucy giggles and he grins as he lets her go, and then pulls her closer. They walk down the aisle, their family and friends cheering but Tim’s focus is on her.
They step out of the way, away from all the noise and Lucy turns to Tim. Her eyes are shining and her face is soft.
“Now what?” She asks.
This is it, this is now.
“Now we start our lives with each other.” He replies. He looks around him, and then back at Lucy.
“But for now.” He leans in and kisses her. And she kisses him back, and he’s so grateful he get this and her for the rest of his life.
He can’t wait for it to begin.
