Chapter Text
Phuwin's mornings had grown peaceful in these two months he'd taken off work. The time to rest and reflect had been a blessing, though it wasn't entirely quiet. Pond, in the midst of preparing for his debut with the boy band Project JASP.ER, had made Phuwin's apartment his second home. He'd often drop by after rehearsals, too exhausted to make the drive back to his place, and Phuwin didn't mind one bit. It felt natural having him around.
This morning was no different—except for the unexpected turn of events that began with the doorbell ringing.
Phuwin had woken to the sound, groggily noting Pond's absence from the bed. The sound of water running in the bathroom told him Pond was already up and showering. With a sigh, Phuwin slid out of bed, grabbed his robe, and shuffled to the door.
When he opened it, he was greeted by Fourth, holding Leo on one hip and a large maternity bag in the other hand.
"Fourth?" Phuwin blinked, startled by the sight.
"I'm so sorry to drop in unannounced," Fourth said hurriedly, his voice tinged with urgency. "I have a last-minute issue I can't avoid, and there's no one else who can watch Leo."
Phuwin glanced at Leo, who grinned mischievously, already looking too pleased with himself. Without hesitation, he reached out to take the bag from Fourth.
"Of course, I can watch him. You don't even have to ask," Phuwin assured him.
Just as his fingers brushed the strap of the bag, Fourth's eyes widened. "Phuwin..." he said, his voice faltering.
Phuwin frowned, confused. "What?"
Fourth's gaze dropped to Phuwin's hand, and he gestured pointedly toward it. Phuwin followed his line of sight, his heart skipping a beat when he saw it—a sleek black diamond band sitting snugly on his ring finger.
"What..." Phuwin whispered, trailing off in disbelief.
"I—" Fourth started, then shook his head as if he didn't have the time to process this. "We'll talk when I get back, okay? I really have to go."
Before Phuwin could say anything,Fourth handed Leo and the bag over, gave him a grateful smile, and hurried off.
Phuwin carried Leo inside, still reeling from the discovery of the ring. He was so distracted that he almost bumped into Pond, who was standing in the kitchen, flipping pancakes. Pond turned and flashed him a grin.
"Good morning," Pond said cheerily. His eyes flickered to Leo, but he didn't seem fazed. He knew who Leo was, after all.
"Morning," Phuwin replied, setting Leo down on a chair. "Fourth dropped him off. He had something urgent to take care of."
Pond nodded, flipping another pancake onto the growing stack. "No problem. The more, the merrier."
Phuwin didn't say anything about the ring. He wasn't ready to bring it up yet, not when he wasn't even sure how it had gotten there. Instead, they settled into breakfast.
Leo, ever the bundle of energy, kept them entertained with his antics—grabbing at pancakes with syrup-covered hands, babbling animatedly, and making faces that had Pond laughing so hard he nearly choked on his coffee.
Phuwin watched Pond interact with Leo, his heart swelling. The way Pond wiped Leo's sticky fingers with patience, the way he coaxed him into eating bites of fruit between pancakes, the way he indulged his every whim without a single complaint—it all made Phuwin certain of one thing. Pond would make an incredible father.
After breakfast, Phuwin suggested they go grocery shopping. "We're running low on a few things," he said casually. "Can you drive us?"
Pond agreed without hesitation, and soon they were at the mall, navigating the aisles with Leo perched in the shopping cart. They spent a good thirty minutes picking out groceries, but when Phuwin led them into the kids' store, Pond raised an eyebrow.
"Didn't Fourth pack enough for Leo?" Pond asked.
Phuwin shrugged nonchalantly. "Leo deserves some new things, don't you think?"
Leo, of course, was thrilled, darting from rack to rack and pointing out toys and clothes with unbridled excitement. Pond followed along, bemused but willing, as they picked out an assortment of baby clothes and toys.
"What about these?" Pond held up a tiny onesie adorned with cartoon dinosaurs.
Leo clapped his hands, his approval clear, and Pond chuckled. "Guess that's a yes."
What Pond didn't notice was that some of the items weren't for Leo—they were for the twins. Phuwin let Leo pick out a few things for them too, his heart fluttering at the thought of his children wearing them one day.
After shopping, they stopped for lunch, enjoying a leisurely meal while Leo played with one of his new toys. When they finally returned to the apartment, Fourth was already waiting for them.
"Thank you so much," Fourth said, looking relieved as he took Leo and the bag from Phuwin. His eyes lingered on the ring for a moment, but he didn't say anything, not with Pond still present.
Phuwin watched as Fourth left.
Once it was just the two of them again, Phuwin led Pond to the nursery. "Can you help me put these away?" he asked, gesturing to the bags of baby items.
Pond nodded, carrying the bags into the room. As he unpacked the clothes and toys, he glanced at the two cribs already set up in the corner.
"You've been busy," Pond remarked, his tone light.
Phuwin smiled. "There's a lot to prepare."
Pond didn't press further, and Phuwin didn't elaborate. Instead, he handed Pond the tools to adjust one of the cribs, watching as he worked with practiced ease.
By the time they finished, it was evening. They shared a simple dinner, their conversation flowing easily as always.
As they lay in bed that night, Phuwin glanced at the ring on his finger. He still didn't know how it had gotten there, but he had a feeling. The thought made his chest tighten with emotion.
He looked over at Pond, who was already half-asleep, his breathing steady and his face relaxed.
Phuwin smiled softly. He didn't want to rush things. Pond was already proving himself in so many ways, and Phuwin wanted him to be fully ready for what was coming.
"I can't wait for you to meet them," Phuwin whispered to himself, the thought of their twins filling him with warmth.
And with that, he closed his eyes, content in the knowledge that he was exactly where he needed to be.
