Work Text:

Juno should have known something would go wrong when Buddy said, “For this mission, the comms are going to have to stay off. They are only to be used in an emergency.”

The event in question had been some rich asshole's party. The rich asshole in question was so paranoid that she kept all his money in his mansion. She also didn't allow the use of any technology at her place and such comms only being for emergencies.

Everything had been going great. He and Nureyev had gotten in without any issues and had even made it halfway through the plan before everything went to shit.

See they were supposed to stay together, due to the aforementioned comms issues. Except Juno had gotten caught up in a conversation with their host that he couldn’t get away from. Nureyev had managed to with the claim that he was going to freshen up and would be back in ten minutes.

That had almost been forty minutes ago now.

Juno had started getting antsy twenty minutes ago.

Five minutes ago he had finally managed to get their host to leave him alone.

Now he was at their designated meet-up location and Nureyev wasn’t anywhere to be found.

“Fuck.”

Juno scrubbed at his face for a moment. He needed to figure out where the hell Nureyev had gotten held up before he called for extraction.

So he started going back through the steps that Nureyev and Buddy had drilled into his head before the job. He needed to find Nureyev now.

Juno moved as fast as thought he could without being caught. His eye trying to take in everything. For the first little bit, he didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. That was until he spotted one of Nureyev’s rings.

Juno picked up the ring and tucked it into his pocket, hackles raised and lamenting the fact that he didn’t have his blaster. It had been too high-tech to get through. Instead, both he and Nureyev had knives and Juno even had a set of brass knuckles.

Juno continued to look around to see if there was anything else that pointed to where Nureyeve had gone. He was about to start going in the direction that Nureyev had come from when he noticed a door that was ajar down another hallway.

He snuck down the hall and glanced into the room. The room was full of lockers, likely for the guards. There wasn’t anything at first glance that was off but as he looked again he noticed the edge of Nureyev's coat stuck in the edge of the locker.

“Fuck.” Juno ran into the room.

Juno tugged at the locker door but it wouldn't open. He cursed as he noticed the door was locked. It was a simple analog lock, thankfully as he heard Nureyev moan from inside the locker.

Juno cursed as he tried to pick the lock with the spare tools Nureyev had made him carry. It took him too long to get it open, but thankfully no one interrupted him as he worked.

When Juno opened the locker Nureyev fell out of it. Juno caught him and eased him to the floor.

“Nureyev, babe, wake up please.” Juno tapped at Nureyev’s face to get him to wake up. After a few moments, Nureyev groaned again, but his eyes didn't open.

“Babe, you gotta wake up. We gotta get out of here.” Juno started looking over Nureyev but didn't notice any open wounds.

After a few more moments when Nureyev didn’t move, Juno cursed before picking him up. He started on his way out.

“Fucking hell, next time I’m telling Buddy that we shouldn’t do missions like this.”

Juno managed to make it most of the way back to the grand ballroom when one of the other guests showed up. Juno muttered something about him having indulged himself and they left him be. He let out a breath as soon as they were out of earshot and continued to move.

“Fucking finally,” Juno muttered as he made it to an open area. He placed Nureyev down before pulling his comms out and turning them on. Thankfully they didn’t take long to boot and he was able to start the call with Jet before the security system caught on and the guards were on them.

Juno stood tall against them as he dropped the comms next to Nureyev. He pulled out the knife and brass knuckles and was about to get ready to fight back when the Ruby 7 bowled over the guards.

The Ruby came to a stop in front of Juno. He let out a sigh and picked up Nureyev and the comms as the back door popped open. He shoved Nureyev into the car before climbing in himself.

“Please buckle up.”

Juno scoffed in response. “Just go Gig Guy.”

“Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

The Ruby took off at a speed that made Juno almost throw up, but he managed to keep it down. They were safe now and Nureyev would soon be getting help, and that was all that mattered.
