Dream grabbed a child from a woman's arms. She let him take the kid into his own hands. Dream helped the lady out from where she was stuck. There was chaos going on all around them. A group of maybe four?(that’s how many they had counted) villains were trying to find information about the hero league.
They were in another random office building, the third this week, searching for any information. Dream thought that they were stupid. There had to be smarter ways to find information on the heros than going into every office building that has any association to the hero league.
For fucks sake, it wouldn’t take more than a quick google search to narrow it down to like 3 buildings in the whole city. It wasn’t a secret to much of the city where all of the files and stats were located on each hero. People came and went all the time about different problems and worries. Also there had to be somewhere where all the phone calls and paperwork can be done.
Dream shook himself from his thoughts. Fucking hell, did he forget his ADHD meds today or something? His thoughts were moving away from the mission faster than he could keep track of.
“Thank you,” the woman he helped cried as he gave her back the kid. Dream nodded his head at her.
“Go down the stairs right there,” he pointed to the staircase to the left of them, “Glitch will help you out of the building to the police.” He referred to George by his hero name. Blaze, or Sapnap, was trying to hold off as many of the villains as he could while Dream and George cleared the building.
Police were running through the first two floors helping the people that the heros brought down. The lady nodded again at him, there were tears in her kids eyes. Dream could hear chaos from the floors above him. They needed to be quicker.
“Go,” Dream ordered, pointing them to the stairs.
“Thank you,” the woman said again running towards the stairs, her kid in hand.
“That’s my job,” Dream called back as she ran down the stairs. He put his finger to his ear clicking his earpiece.
“Status check,” he asked as he began sweeping through the floor one more time. He waited for his friend's responses. He opened doors and looked through rooms.
“Good,” George. “We’ve gotten a ton of people out.” Dream nodded even though he knew none of them could see him.
“Blaze?”
“Ehhh, so so,” Came Sapnap’s voice, “Smile there are people hiding up here, I saw them.”
“You need back up?” Dream asked, ready to head up the stairs.
“Yes, I have one of them held off by fire, currently fighting one,” Sapnap panted, “but I’m not seeing the other two and these people need out.” Dream made a small noise of confirmation as he headed towards the stairs.
“Glitch backup Blaze,” the commander's voice rang through their ears. Dream forgot that they weren’t the only one on this line, “Smiler, we have eyes on another guy. Floor above blaze. We want you on him.” He heard footsteps running up the stairs and he saw George come around the corner.
He looked at Dream from behind his mask.
“Copy that.”
Dream skipped the floor that George ran out onto. He heard fighting. He kept running up the stairs. He got to the fourth floor to see a man standing in the middle of it watching the stairs.
“Nice to see you Smiler!” He exclaimed cheerfully, “Sadly you’re to late.” Dream rolled his eyes as he began running towards the man. He didn’t have time for games.
“Not so fast.” Suddenly Dream was crumpling to the floor, his legs going numb beneath him. Fuck. His legs felt like jelly as the man fucked with his bones. Gods, he hated that villains also had powers.
“Where do you think you're going?” The man turned to him grinning. There was a black mask covering his lower mouth. Dream glared at the man from behind his own mask. He could feel his legs twisting in pain under him.
Dream focused on the man in front of him and took a deep breath feeling his own power flowing through his veins. He heard the door open beside him. A woman came walking out that Dream had never seen before.
The villain's eyes instantly focused on her. Dream could feel the man’s powers slipping off of him as he regained some feeling in his legs.
The woman let out a small cry, terror in her eyes. The villain's powers slipped farther. Dream could feel his fingertips tingling.
“Son?” The women gasped. She was trembling. She was terrified.
“M- mom?” The villain's powers fell off. Dream took complete advantage of the distraction. He jumped forward, letting the illusion crumble. The women faded away and Dream was landing a hit on the man’s face.
He heard him curse. It only took Dream a couple of hits and dodges to get the man to the floor. He instantly clipped the power neutralizers cuffs to the man’s hands. The man yelled things at him as Dream tied him to a pole in the building.
“You fucking monster, you’re horrible,” the man screamed, “you’re fucking terrible. I hope you carry it to the grave that you’re a freak.” It didn’t stop there, but Dream chose to tune him out. He had already heard it a thousand times over.
Dream kept his focus on tying.
“It doesn’t even fucking matter,” the man laughed hysterically, “you’re already too late.” Dream slightly hesitated his task. “You’ve already failed,” the man cackled, “wow would you look at that, the greatest superhero in town just fucking let everyone down.” Dream tried to ignore him, but alarm bells were going off in his head like something was actually wrong.
“Well you see Smiler, my job was never to defeat you,” the man smiled wildly at him, “only to distract you for the next-“ the man looked down at his watch, “ten, nine, eight.” Dream jumped up from where he was crouched down. He clicked his ear piece.
“GET OUT!” He yelled, bolting for the staircase, “Blaze, Glitch, get out of the building!” He could hear laughing behind him as the man got to one. Dream didn’t have much time to do anything before explosions were running through the entire building. The shockwaves of the blasts sent him flying into a wall.
Things happened so fast after that. The loud crack of support beams breaking. Rubble crashing down onto him. Fire and heat swirling. Pain erupting through his system.
The next time that he could register things again he could feel his body on fire. His shoulder was bleeding and his uniform was scraped up. His right leg was pinned under a large piece of concrete. His knee was burning and his ankle felt fucked. Dream bit his tongue.
His gloves were torn and his hands were bleeding. His mask was still on his face, to his appreciation. He at least wouldn't have to worry about that.
He heard cracking and static through his ear. It made him flinch away. He coughed roughly, pain in his throat.
“-atus status?” The commander's voice sounded through his ear. He waited for George and Sapnap to answer. It took a minute but eventually he heard something.
“I’m clear,” Sapnap’s voice was shaky and worried, “But Glitch is buried. I need backup.” Dream felt worry tighten in his chest.
“Sending backup,” he heard, “firemen are on the first floor, they are going as fast as they can. The floor is really unstable and they don’t want to risk a collapse.” He heard Sapnap make some noise of confirmation that he had heart and then the sound of rubble being moved.
“Smiler? Do you copy?” Dream sighed trying to clear his throat.
“I copy. I’m stable. Get Glitch out first. I’m on the floor above, just a little stuck, but not hurt,” the lie slipped off his tongue easily. It was hardly a lie though. He has had injuries way worse than this in the past. He could wait a couple of minutes more.
“You sure?” He heard Sapnap’s voice through his ear. He could hear the doubt in the others voice. Dream sighed at the younger's protectiveness.
“Yes I’m stable. Get Glitch out.” He repeated, clicking his mic off after that. He let his hand fall from his ear. He was breathing heavily.
Dream wiped ash away from his mouth, accidentally just replacing it with the blood from his hands. The metallic taste made him sick. His leg was going numb from underneath the large piece of concrete.
It was concerning, Dream knew that, but he was kinda glad that the pain was lessening. His shoulder was still aching. He was pretty sure he had thrown it out again. He knew how to put it back in, but at the moment, his body was too heavy to do anything.
He could hear shouting downstairs and distantly the sounds of moving rubble. George was getting out, he would be fine. Dream could hold on for a bit longer.
His attention slowly drifted away from the situation. He was too focused on the licking of flames on a small desk in the other room. He let his mind slip from the pain.
Eventually he heard yelling from downstairs. He heard another voice. George was safe. He was in pain, but he was safe. It was crazy how much this building echoed. Even crazier how he could still recognize his friends emotions through the echos.
Dream winced as the concrete trapping him shifted. His knee felt extremely tense. His ankle was on fire. He was sure that something was broken there. With his knee, he had no fucking clue. He breathed deeply trying to control himself.
He had been through worse. He had been through much worse. He kept telling himself.
He heard footsteps running up the stairs. He was soon met with five or six firemen, but Blaze was in front of them all. He locked eyes with Dream and instantly was running to him. He skidded onto his knees in front of him.
“Holy fuck, you stupid mother fucker I hate you,” he cursed instantly looking back at the firemen, “I need some kind of cloth, get this shit off his leg.” The firemen nodded, not saying a word. Sapnap was handed something and it was soon being placed on Dream’s shoulder. The shoulder he didn’t know was bleeding that much.
Sapnap wiped some of the blood away and Dream saw deep angry cuts through his shoulder. Surrounding them were raw patches of skin. Dream held back a wince as Sapnap tried to stop the blood. He heard shuffling from behind his friend.
He knew the firemen were trying to get this shit off of his leg. He saw one of them lean to Sapnap and whisper something in his ear. Sapnap moved to block Dream's view of what the firemen were doing.
“Hey buddy, you gotta listen to me,” Sapnap whispered, still holding pressure to the wound on his shoulder, “they’re just trying to get this off of you. It’s going to hurt, but I need you to focus on me? Okay?” Dream nodded his head slightly, grimacing at the tension in his neck.
He could feel shifting around his leg. Sapnap was still in front of him. The concrete was being moved and he could feel agony twisting through his leg. He bit his lip hard enough that he felt blood filling his mouth. He see Sapnap talking slowly to him but he couldn’t hear him. He could only feel the pain rushing through his body.
He held back any cries. Any noises. Anything that would get broadcasted onto the news through the testament of one of these firemen. He had to be strong. He had to be fine. His leg was being moved. He couldn’t stop the hot pressure that was building behind his eyes. Tears slipped down his face against his will.
Fuck it hurt. It hurt so goddamn badly. Dream bit his lip harder.
He could hear talking and hands prodding at his knee and ankle. He tried to keep focused on Sapnap. He couldn’t panic right now. One of Sapnap’s hands slipped away from his shoulder and down into Dream’s hand. The action was blocked from the view of the firemen. Sapnap squeezed his hand softly. It sent small pains through the cuts there, but it was more comforting than anything.
He could hear muttering from the firemen and Sapnap was whipping his head back.
“Don’t fucking touch it, we have backup on the way, they’ll take care of it,” The hands feeling over his knee and ankle moved away. Sapnap slowly pulled the towel away from his shoulder to check the bleeding. Dream cringed as it pulled slightly because of the crusting blood.
Sapnap carefully looked over the wound. Dream watched as he carefully felt over it with his gloved hands. He sucked in a breath as Sapnap pulled a small piece of rock from it carefully.
“Gods, there is so much shit in this thing,” he muttered under his breath as he continued to softly pick debris out of the wound. His other hand was still in Dream’s, his thumb softly moving in a comforting motion. They kept there until there was commotion coming up the stairs.
Through the doors came George first, he had bandages around his hand and leg, but besides that looked okay. Following him was Sam, Bad, and Techno. He didn’t see anyone else after that. Dream sighed in relief.
“Glitch, Blade, Demon, Warden,” The fireman greeted them with a dip of his head. Techno moved forward quickly scanning the room.
“The civilians need help,” he ordered the men, “and you need to take him,” Techno pointed to the unconscious man that Dream fought earlier, “and the rest of these villains to the police.” The firemen nodded to the hero. They quickly took the man in their hands and began dragging him down the stairs.
Techno looked at Dream and then to the stairs. There was still burning and rubble everywhere.
“Warden, come with me to do a sweep,” Techno huffed slightly, “Glitch and Demon help Smiler.” The two nodded and quickly rushed to Dream. Techno and Sam started up the stairs to check the rest of the building for any survivors.
Dream looked at George as he crouched down on the other side as Sapnap. Bad went immediately for his leg.
“-you okay?” Dream croaked. His voice was scratchy. George nodded his head softly brushing Dream’s arm.
“I’m okay,” George laughed fondly, “I should be asking you that.”
“Mm fine,” Dream whispered. He flexed his foot on the leg that wasn’t injured. Bad was delicately feeling over Dream’s leg. He first felt over his ankle.
He untied Dream's boot softly and slipped it off of his food. Dream bit his tongue as the pull sent a wave of pain through him. He felt over the joint, pulling softly at pushing at certain points.
Bad looked up at him. “It’s likely just a bad sprain,” the man hummed, “nothing feels broken inside of there, which is good.” Dream nodded as Bad slowly slipped his shoe back onto his foot.
“Blaze,” Bad addressed the other and Sap looked at him, “take the cloth off, I want to look at that before his knee.” Sapnap nodded, removing the cloth and Bad scooted forward to look. Blood was still slowly oozing out of the wound and touched the tender skin. Dream but back a wince.
“Sorry,” Bad apologized in advance as he began to pick pieces of dirt out of the wound and rub it softly with the cloth to get the dust out. Dream looked away from Bad and squeezed Sapnap’s hand hard. The other in return rubbed softly on Dream’s arm.
“Okay, it’s clean enough,” Bad told him as he placed a hand flat against the wound. It burned. Bad closed his eyes and Dream felt the wound magically stitch itself together under Bad’s powers. Dream took a deep breath as the burning of pain slowly became a warming feeling.
“Okay now to that knee,” Bad said sympathetically. Dream sighed. He turned to the stairway again as he heard the clatter of footsteps. Techno and Sam poked their heads back through the door.
“Buildings clear, extremely unstable though,” Sam told them and the commander, “How is he?” Sam’s voice softened significantly with worry for his friend. Bad hummed.
“He’s been better,” he responded, “but it could be worse. I just want to make sure his knee isn’t completely muffined before getting out of here.” Dream saw Sam nod.
“Make it quick,” Techno said, “as said before, the building is extremely unstable.” Dream wanted to laugh at the professionalism in his friend's voice. Techno was the most serious out of all of them on missions, but any other time he was completely sarcastic and always making jokes.
Bad’s hand moved over his knee and felt around it. He pushed at bits and sighed softly. He placed a hand under Dream’s knee.
“Try and bend it up okay?” Dream nodded and with the help of Bad bent his knee. He couldn’t hold back the small wince that slipped from his lips. Sapnap squeezed him tighter. Bad continued prodding around his knee.
“Okay, it just looks like you dislocated it,” Bad told him softly, “we just gotta pop it back in and a little rest will have you walking okay?”
“-yep” Dream responded shakily.
“I don’t want to do it in here though, too dangerous,” Bad though for a moment, “it's going to be painful to get you back. You wanna just sleep?” Part of Bad’s powers was the ability to put people to sleep to limit the amount of pain that they were in. Dream though it over for a moment. Either be carried unconscious out of the building, or be obviously injured and helped out.
“We’ll get you out of here without anyone seeing,” George said, almost as if he could read his mind. Dream nodded gratefully. The last thing he wanted was to see some article about how he was dragged helplessly from a building.
“Okay, then I’ll just sleep I guess,” Dream told Bad, looking up at the man. The older nodded.
“Okay, we got you, just rest kid.” Bad placed a hand over his temple and Dream felt exhaustion flooding his body as he slumped into Sapnap. Sleep overtook him quickly.
——————-
When Dream woke up next he was in bed. He blinked his eyes open, rubbing the sleep away from the corners. Yawning he sat up a bit, wincing at the tension in his shoulder.
It was then he noticed that he was stripped down, thankfully still in his boxers. He had bandages wrapped around his ankle, his knee, and his shoulder. He looked around ready to be met with the awkwardness of the hero’s infirmary. But to his shock, he was met with the familiar walls of his apartment. Dream smiled slightly.
He hears the door open and Sapnap steps in. He meets the others eyes, before the younger is running over.
“I fucking swear I get up for two minutes to piss and you wake up,” Dream laughed softly at the other.
“He’s awake?” Dream hears calls from the other room. George comes running into the room as well and smiles when he sees Dream.
Dream pulls the blankets over his bare chest. If Sapnap or George noticed the action they didn’t say anything.
“You feeling okay?” George asked him, moving to sit down on the edge of the bed beside Sapnap.
“Ehh, I’ve felt better,” Dream laughs, “But it’s not too bad to be honest.” George nodded, throwing a bottle of painkillers at him.
“I hate you,” Sapnap said giving him a look, “don’t fucking do that again.” Dream sighed slightly.
“Do what?”
“Say you’re fine when you are hurt,” Sapnap gritted, “Yeah you’re fine this time, but you might not be the next time.”
“Yea,” George agreed, rubbing his leg through the blanket, “I don’t care what the industry says, you have to be more careful.” Dream felt guilt rising in his chest for worrying them.
“I’m sorry,” Dream admitted, “I’ll be better next time.” Sapnap shook his head.
“We’re not asking you to be better, we’re asking you to be safe. Please fucking tell someone if you are hurt. Understand me?” Sapnap looked at him.
“Loud and clear,” Dream gave him a small smile.
“Now move over I want cuddles,” Sapnap whined and Dream laughed. He scooted a little bit over.
“Sure, but hand me a shirt and some sweatpants first would you?” George nodded. He walked to Dream’s drawers and began rummaging through them. He threw him an oversized white shirt and a black pair of sweatpants.
Dream quickly tugged the pants on under the blanket. Sapnap turned to George and said something while Dream threw his shirt on.
“Ok you big sappy get over here,” Dream smiled and Sapnap dove into bed with him. He wrapped his arms around Dream, carefully avoiding the injuries and sighed contently. George climbed in much more carefully, moving to the other side of Dream. He slotted his body in behind Dream’s, wrapping his arms around the youngers waist and resting his face on the back of Dream’s neck. All three of them tangled their legs together.
Dream sighed as he felt warmness wash over him. Whether it was from Sapnap slightly heating up his body, or just the weight of the two beside him, he didn’t care.
“I love y’all,” Sapnap said softly, voice tired.
“I love you guys too,” Dream whispered, letting his eyes slip shut.
“Same,” George said after a moment of hesitation, and Dream felt the older relax behind him.
Dream let himself fall back into sleep.
