Work Text:
Every morning, when Katherine came home after a night filled with slaying monsters, Shelby had to suppress a wince.
More often than not, she was covered in blood, dark splotches on her already dark grey dress.
"It's not my blood," Katherine reassured her. "Most of it isn't, anyway."
Shelby nodded silently, already holding the first aid kit they kept within reach.
Katherine let her guide her to the couch; one made of black leather, so the bloodstains came out easier than light fabric.
It had become their little morning routine.
When they first started dating, Katherine would insist she was fine. A few weeks later, she finally started admitting when she had gotten hurt, but insisted she could deal with it alone.
"I know you can deal with it alone," Shelby had said. "But you don't have to."
So now, when Katherine sat down on the couch, she smiled as Shelby looked at the gash on her shoulder.
"One of the zombies had a sword," she said softly. "A stone one, so it doesn't hurt too bad."
Shelby nodded, digging through the box filled with bandages, potions, and anything else they might need someday.
She dreaded the day her girlfriend came home badly injured. Luckily, up until now, it had only been minor injuries.
Shelby reached for a rag, standing up to wet it in the kitchen.
When she came back, she gently wiped some of the blood from the wound.
Katherine didn't make a sound. She was used to it by now. Besides, back when she still lived with her parents, she had to be quiet so they wouldn't hear her through the closed door of her bedroom.
Shelby looked up at her face, smiling gently when they made eye contact.
"It doesn't need stitches, a regen potion should be enough."
"Whatever you say, doc," Katherine said with a giggle.
"I'm not a doctor," Shelby protested. "I'm a witch."
"And a good one!"
Katherine laughed, even as the regen potion was poured onto the wound.
Sure, it hurt, but her girlfriend's presence was enough of a comfort to dull any pain.
"Now, take a shower," Shelby said after she wiped the excess blood away. "I'll wash your dress."
Katherine smiled. "Thank you, Shelby."
"Anytime"
