Work Text:
It all started when his mom had abruptly planned a vacation to some unknown town. Jade Hearth was a regular high school boy, nothing particularly special about him. He was just finishing his homework when his mom called out to him. "Jade! I was just thinking, with spring break coming up, we should go on a well deserved break! Tomorrow I want you to pack your things, I already booked the hotel!" Jade’s mom was rather…well, stubborn. Once she made a quick and random decision, there was no getting her to stop.
And so, with a sigh, Jade soon found himself in front of an old hotel. "Uh..mom? Are you sure this is the right hotel?" He asked, it’s not like the hotel was completely run down, but it still looked pretty suspicious to him. "Of course it’s the right hotel! I’ve heard great things about it." Dragging him inside of the hotel, he looked to the front desk which oddly, had no staff running it. Just another strange thing about this hotel. He had a bad feeling. Still, his mom informed him that she had done it all online, which calmed his anxiety a little bit. He pulled his luggage along as his mom grabbed the room key, no idea where she got that from. "Let’s just go up the stairs since our room is on floor 2." His mom chipped in, halting his thoughts. "Alright.." He muttered, hauling his mom’s multiple bags. They climbed up the stairs into their room, which was surprisingly nice considering the impression the hotel had gave him before. He flopped down on the bed, completely knocked out from the day.
It was about 1:45 AM when he suddenly woke up in a cold sweat. He vaguely remembered a nightmare full of strange monsters and tons of doors. Removing himself from the sticky bed, he searched the room for a towel to dry himself off. Disappointed to find none, he decided the lobby probably had some stocked up. Too lazy to climb down the stairs, he decided it was best to take the elevator. He pushed the button to go down, surprised when the elevator suddenly jolted. The elevator was moving too fast to be regular. And then, it just suddenly stopped and opened with a ding! That was odd. He thought to himself.
Stepping out of the open doors, he noticed that this wasn’t the lobby he first entered in when he and his mom walked inside the hotel. Maybe he accidentally went into a staff room? He pondered this question for a few minutes, a clock on the wall ticking. He decided this was most likely not the right room, and turned to go back into the elevator. However, when he turned around, the door was closed. He tried to press the button again and again, but to no avail did the door open once more. Okay, so now he was stuck inside this weird staff room. Maybe there was an emergency exit? He glanced around, quickly deducing there was in fact, no exit.
