"She was in the middle of the cracked sidewalk in front of the tower when it clicked.
She had to tell Alex how she felt, if she stayed. But Morgan didn’t have to stay. It might hurt Alex, losing a friend, but the villain was nothing if not resilient. After confirming Morgan wasn’t coming by anymore and there weren’t any nefarious plots using the woman to get at her, she would move on.
Morgan would start anew, choose a new identity and name, any place on the planet. The heroes and villains wouldn’t find her anymore, and Alex would already be busy with someone new. And Morgan would have the rest of her lifetime to recover her heart as best she could.
It was the best plan, and it had to happen."
