Blaise wasn’t the type to fall in love easily. But when he saw Harry fly for the first time against Slytherin he knew he was done for. He had been 11 at that point but the crush only got worse after that. But there was no use in pining over someone who would never even look at him. There were two reasons Harry would never see Blaise in a romantic way. 1) he was a Slytherin and Draco had given Harry the worst impression of Slytherin from day one. And 2) Harry was straight. Or so Blaise had thought for many years.
Now Blaise stared across the street at the scene that played out in front of him. Harry arguing with Oliver Wood. He could just hear their conversation from where he sat in the Leaky Caldron.
“Oliver, how could you?” Blaise could see the tears in Harry’s eye and fought the urge to grab the man and leave with him.
“Well, it’s simple really,” Oliver sneered at Harry and Blaise wanted to punch him, “You aren’t fun anymore.”
“So I’m only fun when I’m fighting for my life or drunk? Is that it?”
“Yeah, kinda.”
“You know what, Oliver? We’re done. Don’t contact me in any way and don’t even think about trying to get me back. This was the last straw,” Harry stood and walked out the back door, leaving both Oliver and Blaise in shock.
Oliver sat for a moment before getting up and leaving through the front door. Blaise waited another moment before following Harry. He wanted to make sure Harry was ok. Blaise couldn’t find Harry anywhere in Diagon Alley so he decided to head back home.
He had been home for only a few minutes when there was a knock on his door. He got up and went to the door. Opening he was nearly flattened by an excited Pansy, who was followed by her girlfriend, Ginny Weasley.
“Hey, Pansy, what’s up?”
“Potter!” Pansy said breathlessly.
“What about him?”
“He’s gay and single as of today?”
“I know,” Blaise chuckled at the look on both Pansy’s and Ginny’s faces.
“How?” they both said together.
“I was at the Leaky Cauldron when it happened,” and Blaise explained what he had seen.
“Well, this means you can go after him now!” Pansy said excitedly.
“Pansy, he just broke up with his boyfriend. I think it’s a little too soon,” Blaise explained and Ginny agreed.
“Blaise is right, Pansy, but this will probably mean Harry will start coming over to mine more, which means we can see him more. I didn’t like Wood anyway, always keeping Harry away from everyone.”
“Well, anyway, Blaise, the Weasleys are having a get together next weekend and they invited us.”
“Why would they invite me?” Blaise wasn’t close to any of the Weasleys though he had gotten to know them better because Pansy would often drag him along to get togethers when she was going with Ginny.
“Hermione thought you should come and no one disagrees with her,” Ginny grinned and Blaise sighed.
“Fine, but just this once.”
“Yay!” Both girls hugged him before turning to the door, “Oh and Blaise?” Ginny called over her shoulder, "Harry's gonna be there so don’t make a fool of yourself ok?” And with that the two girls were gone.
That weekend, Blaise stood in front of his mirror inspecting his outfit one last time. He was wearing dark grey slacks, a dark green turtleneck, and a long black coat. It was supposed to be cold that day and he didn’t know if the get-together would be inside or outside. He was debating changing when he heard a knock at his door. He went to open it and was greeted once again by Pansy and Ginny.
“You ready?” Ginny looked him up and down.
“I was going to chan-” he started but was cut off by Ginny.
“No, you are not changing, that will do.”
“What are we even doing?” Blaise asked as he was nearly dragged out of his own home. He had enough sense to summon his wallet before flicking his wand to lock the door.
“Picnic,” Pansy said shortly as they made their way to a secluded area behind some bushes.
“Hold on,” Ginny said and, grabbing Pansy’s hand and Blaise’s arm, she disapparated.
Blaise blinked and straightened as he looked around the place Ginny had apparated them to. It was a beautiful, hilly area with winter flowers spreading all around them. Ginny waved to a group sitting on a picnic blanket and they made their way over. As they got closer Blaise could see Ron, Hermione, and Fred sitting with three other people he didn’t recognize.
“Blaise,” Hermione stood and, surprising Blaise, hugged him, “I’m happy you could make it! Let me introduce you to everyone. You know Ron and Fred,” the two other man waved to him and he waved back, “That’s Fred’s boyfriend Lee Jordan,” a friendly looking black man grinned and waved, “That’s Neville Longbottom, he was in our year, and his girlfriend, Luna Lovegood, she was in Ginny’s year,” a cheery faced man waved from where he sat with a blonde girl with a far away look in her eyes. “Harry should be here soon and then we can start eating.”
He, with Ginny and Pansy, sat down, leaving an open spot between him and Ron. He missed the look Hermione and Ginny exchanged as he was too busy looking around for the man he most wanted to see.
A few minutes later they all heard a crack and turned to see a shorter, dark hair man appear at the top of a hill a ways away. As Harry walked towards them, Blaise could see he looked tired and worn out.
“Sorry I’m late, work has been a nightmare,” Harry explained but stopped when he saw Blaise sitting next to Ginny. Harry hadn’t expected to see the tall, handsome Slytherin there and he could feel his cheeks heat up as he saw the only open spot was next to him. He sat down next to him and turned to Ron, a question in his eyes. Ron just shrugged.
“Harry, you remember Blaise, right?” Hermione took him by surprise with her question. How could he forget the man he had a crush on since he had seen him sitting in Slughorn’s compartment in 6th year? He narrowed his eyes at Hermione who just gave him an innocent smile. She knew he had liked Blaise back then. What was she playing at?
“Yeah,” he turned and held out his hand, trying not to blush more than he was already, “How are you?”
“Good,” Blaise took his hand and Harry could feel that heat flowing from him, “How are you?”
“Fine,” Harry let his hand linger for just a moment longer than was normal before dropping it and turning to Fred, “How’s the shop?”
“Great, George is watching it today since Saturdays are always busy, Angie is helping him.”
Ginny leaned over to Blaise, “Angelina Johnson, George’s girlfriend.”
“Good, I’m glad,” Harry had always been a little more invested in the twins' pursuits since he had given his Triwizard winning to them his fourth year but, of course, he hadn't told anyone else.
“Let’s eat already,” Ron said and Hermione pulled out a large basket full of food.
They all sat and ate, talking about life and simple things. Blaise sat quietly, content to watch Harry. He looked much better than when Blaise had last seen him a few days ago in the Leaky Cauldron when he had broken off things with Wood. After they had all finished Hermione suggested they go for a short walk before parting ways. Everyone agreed and, after Hermione had shrunk the blanket and basket, they began to walk around. Everyone paired off with their partner, leaving Blaise and Harry to walk together in the back of the group. After a little while Blaise noticed Harry rubbing his hands together and blowing on them.
“You okay?” Blaise asked and Harry jumped slightly.
“Yeah, but my hands are cold,” Harry blew on them again.
“Here,” and without thinking Blaise grabbed one of Harry’s hands and laced their finger together.
Harry was stunned but he didn’t pull his hand away. It felt nice, Blaise’s warm hand in his.
They walked in silence like that as pair by pair the group shrunk until it was just them, Ron, and Hermione left wandering the hills.
Finally, Hermione stopped, “Well, we should be going,” and, giving Harry a meaningful look, she took Ron’s hand and they disapparated, leaving Blaise and Harry alone on top of a hill.
After a moment Blaise spoke, “I should probably go as well.” He didn’t want to but he was afraid he would make Harry uncomfortable by staying too long.
“Oh, okay,” Harry dropped his hand.
Blaise turned on the spot and apparated to his home. But something felt off, like he was being pulled by something. When he appeared with a crack it was obvious what had happened. Harry had grabbed his sleeve just as he disapparated. Harry stumbled a little and Blaise caught him before he fell over.
“Harry!” Blaise was justifiably shocked, “What are you doing? You could have splinched yourself.”
“Sorry, I just,” Harry paused embarrassed at his sudden action, “I didn’t want you to leave.”
“You could have said that instead of nearly getting yourself hurt,” Blaise was still worried Harry had hurt himself.
“I didn’t know if you would have if I’d asked,” Harry looked down, dropping Blaise’s sleeve.
“I would have,” Blaise said, the words almost a whisper.
Harry looked up, hope in his eyes and Blaise finally gave in to the urge he had since first seeing Harry apparate onto the hill. Cupping Harry’s cheek with his hand, he leaned down till their lips were a fraction of an inch apart. He wanted to make sure Harry could pull away if he wanted to. Harry closed the gap and brought his hand up to clutch the front of Blaise’s shirt, pulling him even closer.
After a moment, they broke apart, “What took you so long?” Harry asked, a grin spreading across his face.
“Well, a lot of things,” Blaise grinned back.
“Yeah? Like what?”
“Well, I didn’t you even liked guys until a few days ago, when I saw you break up with Wood,”
A dark look spread across Harry’s face at the mention of his ex, “Can we not talk about him?”
“Of course not,”
He smiled at him and wrapped his arms around Blaise, “Do you know how long I’ve wanted this?”
Blaise chuckled, wrapping Harry in a strong embrace, “How long?”
“Since I saw you in Slughorn’s compartment in 6th year,” Harry felt a chuckle rumble in Blaise’s chest and looked up into his chocolate brown eyes, “What?”
“I have a few year on you then,” Blaise grinned down at him, “I’ve liked you since 1st year when I saw you play against Slytherin,”
“Well then, I guess we have some lost time to make up for,”
“I guess we do,” and Blaise bent down and kissed him.
