Chapter Text

Sparrow and Rose made their way to Bowerstone with other travelers making after the two defeated Thag and his bandits.

Upon arriving in the markets, they both noticed the few changes in the markets. It wasn't much different from when they saw it last.

"Hasn't changed much innit little sparrow?" Sparrow shook his head.

When they made it to the square, they began to look for Theresa but to no avail.

"How did we beat her here?" Rose questioning the lack of Theresa's presence made her appearance known in a different way.

"I'm running behind young heroes, you will have to wait, but while you wait you should get yourself some new supplies."

"Well I guess that explains it, c'mon little sparrow lets get some new supplies."

Using the money they gathered from Thag and his bandits, they went to get better weapons as the ones they had just wouldn't cut it. Visiting the blacksmith they gave away their old weapons for a few gold and purchased new ones.

Rose armed herself with a much better crossbow and a dagger for close quarters. Sparrow armed himself with a steel long sword and a clockwork pistol.

With the gold they had left over they decide to get some new clothes to replace the rags they were wearing.

Sparrow changed out of his dirty clothes into a white shirt and black vest, along with brown explorer pants and black boots. He placed his black gloves back on and walked out of the changing room and waited for his sister.

When Rose finally walked out, Sparrow was speechless.

Rose had on blue thigh high boots, with a matching corset and brown overcoat.

Sparrow never noticed his sisters figure due to the loose clothes she always wore but now that she was wearing these fitted and tailored clothes, he was stunned at how good those clothes looked on her.

"So what you do you think Sparrow?"
Even if Sparrow was able to speak regularly he wouldn't be able to find the right words.

Rose noticed Sparrows gaze and shifted on her feet uncomfortably and thought he didn't like it but her worries melted away when saw Sparrow give her a smile and a thumbs up.

Rose blushed and smiled. "You clean up well too little sparrow." She noticed that the clothes that Sparrow wore hugged his muscular frame and she averted her eyes away before he noticed.

They both were broken out of their moment by the blind witch.

"I have arrived, meet me at the town square."

The two made their way to town square to see Theresa standing near the clock tower, they began to approach.

"I apologize for the delay, events are moving quickly indeed."

"No worries Theresa, now could you tell us why we are here?"

"Think about your life, all the places you've been, all the people you've known, everything you've done. All of your thoughts and memories. Thag and his men had memories but now because of you they have none. Do you feel the weight of responsibility?"

Rose thought hard, this quest of taking lives if need be seemed it would have lots of responsibility. Sparrow felt apathetic, again to him Thag and his slavers had it coming.

"Look Theresa, we may be young, but it doesn't matter. Little Sparrow and I know that Lucien must be dealt with, no matter the cost."

Sparrow responded by simply giving an agreeing nod to Theresa.

"Your enthusiasm may have its uses but mind it does not consume you."

"Come."With a motion of her hand Theresa began to walk and the two heroes followed.

"The world is better off without Thag and certainly bower lake is in your debt. But to truly see the impact of your action, you need look no further than Bowerstome. It has changed since you two lived here, especially old town, where you spent your childhood.
Never forget that the most simplest choice can have far reaching consequences."

Rose curiosity of old town piqued at this along with her brother. The two wondered what old town was like now.

Theresa led them to an outlook over Bowerstone and the ocean.

"Look, that is where Lucien is now, The tattered spire."

The two looked out far into the ocean and saw what looked like a small island made out of stone. It gave off a very dark feeling just from the sight of it.

"The spire was intended as conduit for all the magic of the world, granting the kingdoms ruler a power so great he could bend reality to his wish. On the day it was completed and the first wish made, a light bloomed inside, though its nature could not have been darker. Albion shattered, centuries of civilization wiped out in moments, it's people erased from existence. Some say this was the first wish, an end to a hollow and corrupt world and for a newer one to take its place."

Rose and sparrow were both stunned, the fact that something with that kind of power like this even existed sent chills down their spines.

"So you’re saying this Spire has the power to wipe out an entire civilization from a single wish?" Rose muttered sadly while looking still at the spire.

"Yes, and now the spire rises once again by Lucien's hand. Lucien found documents which foretold the coming of one who would stop him from using the spire. But it appears those documents were misread as it is not one hero but two. That is why he tried to kill you and that is way you will face him."

Rose and Sparrow were now more determined than before. Until this knowledge they were merely set out to make Lucien face justice for what he had done to them. Now they were going to stop him from using an old kingdom relic that could bring about the end of the world they know.

"We'll stop him, won't we little Sparrow." Rose looked towards her brother.

Sparrow had a of determination on his face and nodded. Rose smiled at her brother before looking back to Theresa who was handing the what looked like a stack of cards.

"Here, these are the cards of fate. Each of the three heroes you see in the cards is a step on the hidden path to Lucien's downfall. And the life force of heroes-will itself-is the key to the spires power. Lucien's agents scour the land as we speak. You must find the three heroes before Lucien does, because you two together are the fourth and the fifth, so you must do this together and only together to stop Lucien."

"I have seen a vision of a holy ritual in oakfield. Salvation, though only bittersweet, is delivered by one of incredible strength. Speak to the abbot at the temple of light and find out what you can about this pilgrim."

"Well, if finding these three will stop Lucien and the tattered spire, then lets go find them and bring them together."

"I wish you luck Rose and to you as well Sparrow. The journey ahead is dangerous but together I know you two will be victorious."

Theresa then left, leaving the two young heroes with the fate of the world in their hands.

"C,mon little sparrow, lets take a look at these fate cards."

They pulled out the first one titled 'The Pilgrim.' Upon doing so, Theresa's voice echoed through their minds.

"The pilgrim. This hero has great strength but it is not yet unleashed. The pilgrims path is to the north."

They pulled out the next one with the title 'The Mage.'

"The Mage follows where wisdom leads but always into conflict, making an alley of this hero will cost you much."

The next one was titled 'The Thief.'

"The Thief. This hero harbors a soul without a glimmer of light. I see choked weeds and water. He lies just out of reach."

The next was titled 'The Relic.'

"The Relic. An Ancient device of incredible power. Created by those who foresaw the terror of the spire. It waits for one with the strength to bear it and for the three who can summon it."

The final card was titled 'The Choice.'

"The Choice. A terrible decision waits in your future and just beyond it a glorious reward."

With all the cards being explained, Rose put them away and the two young heroes had a bad feeling about the future that would come to be in these cards.

Sparrow was mostly curious about 'The Mage' to make an ally of this hero will cost you much but what exactly he did not know.

Rose felt nervous about 'The Choice' The glorious reward wasn't chilling but the terrible decision that she and her brother would have to make.

"Well little sparrow, I don't know about all this but I know that if we stick together, we'll succeed."

Sparrow smiled and grabbed her hand, Rose returned the gesture, smiling back and gripping his hands tighter felling her stomach flutter.

"You always know how to make me happy, don't ya little sparrow?"

Sparrow prided himself in being able to make her happy whenever she felt sad or angry. Rose had the same effect on him but how he was able to do it without words was commendable.

"C'mon little Sparrow, lets go save the world." she grabbed her brothers hand and the two began to head to Oakfield followed by the always loyal Caesar.
